As I posted in the thread about Blu-Ray not coming for the 360, I need to buy an HDTV, as I sick of my crappy SDTV set. So, heres what Im looking for:
1080p resolution, 8ms or less response time, a good contrast ratio, and 40" or bigger size. So far, I have 3 TVs Im looking at, in order of preference. Theyre all Samsungs. Right now Im just not sure how finances are going to look over the coming weeks, so Im trying to get the best bang for my buck. Also, I have seen the 46" and 40" 550 series TVs for $1500 and $1300 respectively in a local store.
At the moment, its between these three, in order of preference:

Newegg tells me I am having a server issue if I try to bring up any of your links.
As a somewhat recent purchaser of an Aquos, I have to recommend one. When I was looking I really wasn't sold on the Aquos at first but it ended up winning me over. I have a 37" which currently goes for about $1099 from Newegg.
But, based on your requirements - here's what I'd look at.
SHARP AQUOS 42" 16:9 4ms 1080p LCD HDTV LC-42D64U
$1399 w/ free delivery from Newegg
SHARP AQUOS 46" 16:9 4ms 1080p LCD HDTV LC-46D64U
$1599 w/ free delivery from Newegg
Both have 3 HDMI inputs as well as all the others you'd need (including 15-pin D-sub VGA).
I'm not going to bother posting links since yours didn't work. Just do a search for the model numbers.

Projectors are out as I live in an apartment. When I buy a house in a couple of years, its a different story.
Ive also looked at the Sharp Aquos TVs, and even reccomended one to my ex when she bought an HDTV. I didnt realize the sharp TVs had dropped some more in price.

I also spent the $129 and got the 4-year warranty extension from Newegg. This tv gets a hell of alot of use. Besides doing duty as a television, it's also the monitor for my primary PC which happens to be a media center PC located in our master bedroom. So, it's basically on all the time whenever I am home.

Any reason you are not looking at a DLP? I have the 71" Samsung (1080p). It has been replaced in their line up by a larger 72", but is awesome. The new DLP units can handle 3D TV (coming soon) and at CES they showed some 240hz units.

You should check out the screen in person if you are considering a DLP TV. There is a rainbow effect that a small number of people can see. It has something to do with some part that spins. I don't know if its just something in the first generation that they have fixed now, but its something I've always heard about them. Other than that, DLP TV's are your biggest bang for the buck and you get a huge screen.

Im not considering a DLP projection TV due to bulk and the cost down the road of replacing the bulb. I also have 0 first hand experience with how well they handle action games at high resolution.
Due to my apartment layout, and size, Id much rather have a flat panel LCD than a projection system. Plus, the eventual plan is to wall mount this TV, and I definitely cant do that with a projection system.

I have a 40" Toshiba LCD 1080p and I absolutley love it. Got it at Circuit City for only $1200 on sale. It was originally $1899.
My mom has a Samsung 46" and it looks equally as good. It was about $2200 about 6 months ago.
Go to a store that has a lot of different models on display. Look at them and see what you like. Then check and see where you can find the best deal. Remember to factor in tax and shipping.
Your best picture quality will be with a "quality" manufacturer like Toshiba, Samsung, and Sony, though Westinghouse and other "lesser" brands will have lower prices. Personally, I find Sony to be really overpriced when compared to equally good quality products.

plank...I have the LNT-4665f samsung 46in LCD. It is 15,000:1. It has a high gloss screen, like the viao laptops. That screne is apparently too reflective for some, but it 2x the contrast ratio and looks like heaven to me. It has TRUE black. THere is no difference between the black bars on a widescreen show and the black in the program. It has no macroblocking/pixelating...THe main complaints are that the connector in the back for the hdmi's can break...but i am not plugging and unplugging hdmi's all day. It also rotates on the stand and has a 178degree viewing angle, for real..you can clearly see the tv at harsh angles, high and low. it has soooo many customizable setting for picture...you can even do a standard def PIP while watching hi def.
I love the fucker
It is now "last years model" but that doesn't matter to me....It retailed at big box stores for $3200, I bought it online for $2,200...tax free of course w. free delivery from http://powersellernyc.com/
the fucker is now $1649 and i am SOOO tempted to pick up a second for the bedroom

there were a couple of people on the business review sites that had some complaints about delivery time, but they stated clearly to me that it may take 3 weeks to get there because of the 'fragile' shipping with fed ex ground. you could PAY for faster shipping...but the fed ex was FREE...FREE...not tax, no shipping and a super low price...so i was patient and I think it did take 3 weeks...and they were not very clear as to when it was sent...i was just sort of told via email about 8 days after i paid. I also got the obligatory call at home to confirm my purchase (an effort that was really meant to try and offload overpriced accesories on me...but i am no fool and i will accept that as part of the low price...again the $$$ is the bottom line for me. I would stand in front of them and let them call me an asshole for 10 min if it knocked $200 off the price)

I can understand the depth if you are in an apartment, but the bulb cost is only like $150. MUCH less with multiple bulbs than an LCD. The NEW DLPS have an LED instead of a bulb, so they last even longer.
Funny thing, MOST folks I know that buy an LCD have not wall mounted it.
The new 240 hz DLP sets are amazing for speed. Mine is a 120hz, but I do not think one would notice the difference. The biggest effects will be noticed with 3D but that is a little ways off.

the bulb is a good thing. I have a Optoma DLP H78DC3 and bulbs run about 250. but at least I can change it as opposed to other types of TVs that will cost way more than that just for a tech to open it up and give you an estimate thats almost as much as the original cost so you can take it home and throw it in the trash. Also with a projector, you can use it now in your apartment on a table against a wall at say 60" and when you get a house it can be ceiling mounted to give you a 100" plus picture.

Well, I did it. I had some help from my old boss, and I now have a Samsung LN46A550 sitting in my living room. After watching some HD videos from Xbox Live on it, I damn near came. The picture quality on this set is AMAZING. My 360 games look great (still not as good as my PC, though), Upscaled DVDs look good, and HD content from Live is amazing. Time Warner is coming tomorrow (Had no idea they did Sunday housecalls) to switch out my SD DVR for an HD box. Does anyone know what kind of cables TW usually provides with their HD DVR's for connection to your TV?

I can't swear to it, as I don't have TW, but Comcast provided me with component HD cables. I was frankly surprised that they didn't give me a DVI cable.

look here (http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp) or even on Ebay but don't go to the local big box place unless you are rich and famous, their prices are way too high. use the component ones now if they work, and get HDMI later. does your 360 have HDMI? oh well your TV has 3 HDMI inputs so go to town

HDMI is a digital signal needed for 1080p viewing. Component is an analog medium. If you got a good set of cables you'll be okay. It'll only do up to 720p/1080i. Which is fine if all you have is Xbox marketplace and Comcast as neither does 1080p. Only Blu-ray and a few internet/satellite start-ups do 1080p. And if you were wowed by marketplace you should see true 1080p.

well. you know the high cost of HDMI cables. what a joke, a cheap HDMI, which is every bit as good as the most expensive one, is far cheaper than a low end set of component cables. I bet they try to sell them to unsuspecting rubes

Not only is it a surge protector it is a UPS. It costs 179 and it has a $150,000 equipment protection guarantee.
There is a reason when you go to any server room you see APCs everywhere and not Monster equipment. They are the best and they wont give you a deep dicking on the price.

WTF is this for? And is it a ripoff?
I know about joule protection and all the "electronic interference" and that you should get gold plated coaxial cables that go from the wall into your cable box ....
personally i think its ALL bullshit propaganda to get you to buy shit you dont need..
Am I way off?
That`s a line conditioner, keeps voltage from spiking or drops:
i.e: voltage will stay at a constant rate and won`t fluctuate.
I have one that I got from a comp show that accepts 2 plugs
cost:$20.
Is it worth it?
Yes, I`ve been using it for years now definitely see a difference.

the APC battery back up types basically convert AC to DC through a battery and then back to AC out to the equipment, thus isolating any spikes or sags from your stuff. the best reason to get one is if it has an insurance policy to cover your stuff. I have heard of places getting zapped by lightning and wiping out every electrical device in the house, washer, dishwasher AC unit everything. I guess the next best thing to do is get a whole house surge protector, but that is crazy expensive but prolly worth it.

A whole-house surge protector isn't that expensive, but you really need it to be installed by an electrician.
As far as a UPS goes, APC stuff is excellent. So is Tripp-Lite. Those are the two I recommend without hesitation.
