My sense of humor is pretty diverse, but I just don't get the appeal of this guy. I gave The Office a chance when it came on, but I couldn't get into it. Now he's playing the lead in a dumb looking remake of 'Get Smart'.
I watched him on SNL this year and he didn't say or do one thing that I laughed at. (But to be fair, not much on SNL has made me laugh since the Will Ferrell cast left)

Maybe it's just me?

I like him a lot, he just seems like a genuinely good guy. I've liked him since his Daily Show days. I do agree that the Get Smart movie doesn't look too good. Have you seen The 40 Year Old Virgin?

Thought he was real good in Real life with Dan and 40 year old virgin.

On the Daily Show he was the consummate douche and often did some great on site things. Not much hes done beside a few moments in the office that I have found funny since then. 40 year old virgin was a decent movie but nothing great and get smart is garbage, we get it. Your the kooky silly guy and the rock does the macho man stuff.

I liked Dan, never saw 40 year old or him onThe Daily Show, and like The Office just fine thanks.

I guess that means that I like him.

I think he's better off in supporting roles (Anchorman) than leads (Evan Almighty) where his schtick wears thin. Loved the virgin movie but that was more of an ensemble in terms of the jokes.

Yay. If you ever saw the original 'Get Smart' series then you'll get what a good job he did with it. It was never meant to be a highbrow movie, just something along the lines of Austin Powers, just a bit of fun. I've liked him in all the movies he's done except that stinker "Evan Almighty" that ate ass. Dan was good, and The Office I like as much as the UK original, just for different reasons.

I agree with that ( I forgot he was in R.B.), some actors are just not ment for the main stage. Some of the time they can pull it off if the role is right but thats about it for the comedy side kick guys.

I like him. I thought he was great on "The Daily Show" and I think he's terrific on "The Office" both as a comedian and an actor - he does a really nice blend of ignorant buffoon and innocent manchild. I liked "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," but it was a bit long for a comedy. I thought he was great in "Anchorman" as well.

You can't expect everything that an actor does to be geared towards you. He has a very large appeal and you can't blame a person for trying to broaden his or her range. "Evan Almighty" was a non-threatening kids/family movie - I could see its merit in that sense, but I didn't enjoy it because it wasn't meant for me. "Get Smart" probably falls into the kids/family category as well. He's great at deadpan comedy and that's kind of key to the Maxwell Smart role; I'm skeptical, but I think he might pull it off.

In the next few years, I wouldn't be surprised if you saw him pull off a dramatic role with a lot of success.

No matter what, his work beats the shit out of any of the one-note garbage that Mike Myers' has been cramming down our throats for the past 15 years. You can count his good movies on one fucking hand.

Aside from that, to be honest, between this thread and the recent Will Ferrell thread, sometimes I wonder if some O&A fans decide what to laugh at based on what they think the boys would laugh at rather than just deciding what they find funny on their own. The show definitely has the ability to make people become very discriminating when it comes to comedy - especially when you learn about the grind that stand-ups go through. But there's nothing wrong with having a broad sense of humor or being able to appreciate the merit of something that you might not be into because it isn't geared towards you. Sorry for going a bit off topic, but I am curious if anyone else has thought this.

Absolutely

I'd give him a YAY.

He was good in "Dan In Real Life" and he was really great in "Little Miss Sunshine", which nobody has mentioned.
Loved him on the Daily Show, and of course The Office.

I didn't like 40 Year Virgin really, or Evan Almighty, but I give him a pass.
I think if he wanted to be a really serious actor he could definetly pull it off. Like any recent Bill Murray movie, I think Carrell could've done.

You ain't the only one, it is painfully obvious sometimes. I myself like all types of comedians and comedies, and I could give two shits if Jimmy or someone else on the show doesn't like them. Maybe if Steve starts saying cunt a lot, he will be funnier in some people's eyes.

You're immediately not allowed to have an opinion if you pine for the glory days of Will Ferrel, Chris Kattan, and Cheri Oteri.

I'll go YAY on this one. Loved him on the Daily Show. He was great in Anchorman. He pretty much always makes me laugh, and I want to see Get Smart. I always loved that show.

Just a reminder that he was actually pretty darn good (and not just Micheal Scott with a different name) in Little Miss Sunshine.

Im not gonna blame him for the awful Evan Almighty cause he was just starting his leading role thing right off of 40 Year Old Virgin, and it just happened to be a sequel to a movie he had a bit part in that also was awful.

Anyone who's heard the words "Dumb and Dumberer" should know better than to do a sequel to a Jim Carrey movie that Jim Carrey's not in. I'm sure they waved a HUGE check in front of his face. I would've taken it.

If that was true I would be a fan of Dane Cook and Mencia and hate alternative comics like Patton Oswalt, which I don't. Comedians of comedy was on of the best stand up shows I've ever seen. Patton remains and will continue to remain in my top 3 favorite comics list no matter what Jimmy says.

Personally I think the boys usually don't have the best taste in movies and Jimmy hasn't even seen 300 yet.

Thats the cunt with her crutch book to fall back on if a joke bombs "its new, its in the book, DON'T BLAME ME!". Patton has said he hates the term alternative comic but his humor style is what it is. I think hes the best of all the alternative comedians, Galifanakis, Poesein, Murman are also great alternative comics as well. I know the boys hate alternative comics since they never seem to have them on and when they do mention them its usually not kind words but I fucking love alot of them.

I also hate alot of them, the average alternative comic with there shitty guitar and ultra liberal jokes piss me off. Jimmy likes Silverman but I fucking hate the woman, WE GET IT. You think your cute and you say words a 3rd grader laughs at with your hairy gorilla arms and eye brows. Most alternative comics from comedy central are terrible, Demetri Martin is one of the worst. Steal Galifanakis's act and take all the funny/edgy jokes out and you got this bag of shit.
