Ron brought this up on the show today. You have a friend who has a dream. A stupid friend with a stupid dream. He's about to throw all his money- his money, wifes money, kids money, family money- into this one business venture (apparently a Safari-themed restaurant, which apparently isn't The Rainforest Cafe (http://rainforestcafe.com/)).
He comes to you for advice. You pretty much know he's going to fail. Do you try and stop him, crushing his dreams but protecting him, his life and his family? Or do you let him live out his dreams (because what's life without them?) knowing he'll be destroyed by them?

Go for it. All it takes is a few ads in the back of magazines right? What could possibly go wrong?

Its one thing to support a budday and his dreams if he's just starting out and wants to make his mark. Its quite another to try to radically change your life around and chance taking down your wife and kids with you. In whatever you do keeping them secure should be your #1 priority. I would never support a friend risking it all at the expense of the rest of his family for risks he wasn't man enough to take before he decided to start a family.

I really think it depends on the idea and the person.

Worst time to open a restaurant is in a shitty economy. Even in the best of times, it's still a huge gamble, IMO.
Good luck to your friend.

I have a dream, everyone says I'm a really good cook, so I was going to quit truck driving, go to cooking school and open a resturant. My family just laughs

If its just him, yeah then I would encourage him to give it a chance. If its a restaurant idea, I may be able to offer some advice and help him out. Fortune does favor the brave.
However, if he has a wife and kids, then just call me the dream killer.
