Opening this weekend starring Steve Carrell (who I like), Anne Hathaway (who is retardedly hot and seemingly more so in the movie), Alan Arkin (as Chief), Terrence Stamp (as the head of Chaos) and Dwayne Johnson (who I've determined I don't hate as an actor).

Saw it tonight. Pretty good. Not an over the top comedy but has a similar feel to the show but without a laugh track.

Carrell plays Smart different than Adams but it works overall while Hathaway seems to be playing 99 almost exactly like the original. Neat cameo by the original Siegfried.

I saw it too and honestly, I kind of liked it. I found it more enjoyable than I found it funny, if that makes any sense. I liked that Carrell did a new Maxwell Smart and didn't just try to do a Don Adams imitation (see Steve Martin, you can take characters into new directions). I thought Anne Hathaway was good as 99 and had good chemistry with Carrell (and was, of course, sexy as fuck) . And Alan Arkin/Terence Stamp had some pretty good moments and weren't just there to be there.

Not the greatest movie and there could have definitely been improvements but it is vastly, vastly, vastly superior to the other two comedies that have been released.

Mostly, I was impressed with the references to the TV Show which I grew up loving on Nick at Nite and with rare exception is seen on TV (luckily, weekend nights a public accessy station shows it) and isn't on DVD. They had some pretty deep things. And my love of the show actually helped my enjoyment of the movie, rather than detract from it.

I kind of know what you mean by enjoying it. I probably had almost the exact same feelings. Though I didn't really get into Stamp. He seemed to be playing his character very seriously, while I enjoyed the TV version where he was more of a foil to Smart than a badass.

Hathaway was killer in that dress, though.

is this movie worth seeing? and by that i mean is there anything better in theaters now or would this be the best available?

is this movie worth seeing? and by that i mean is there anything better in theaters now or would this be the best available? Hulk and Iron Man are better. Don't know about either Wall*E or Wanted yet (both opening Friday). Haven't and not going to see Kung Fu Panda, Strangers or Sex and The City. Better than Guru, Zohan, Indy 4, The Happening, and Prince Caspian.

I enjoyed this one too. I saw it Sunday and had several laughs and kept moving forward. I agree that Iron Man was better, but not sure if the Hulk was to me though. If I were in the mood for a comedy, Get Smart was better and if I wanted action, Hulk would be better.

I would normally agree, but I saw the movie Saturday and I have to just say she is hot. No need to qualify it.

As far as the movie goes, I enjoyed it. Some stuff was very funny. Some of it was chuckle-worthy. The predictable stuff was pulled off well. The humor was a grab-bag of different styles of slapstick, sight gags, parody, etc. so it didn't always feel cohesive.

I liked that Carell didn't play it like Don Adams.
