Wow, who saw this coming?

This movie will probably be good right up to the point he cleans up his act. After that it's just gonna be Will Smith playing Superman. If that happens in the last 20 minutes, I might check it out.

Yea, I saw a preview in front of Indy 4 last week and was thinking the same thing. Looks like a great premise, but I cringed when he did the press conference and said that he'd try to be good because the people deserve it (or some shit like that).

I cringed more because they put it in the preview to begin with. I'm sure it wouldn't be a big surprise twist in the story to anyone with half a brain, but it's annoying that basically the entire movie is in the trailer. Seems to be par for the course these days, though. Hell, they put the Tony Stark scene from Hulk in the trailer.

The movie was originally called "Tonight He Comes" which I think is funnier than Hancock.

The trailers actually show mostly scenes from the first half, for obvious reasons.

Once he starts dressing like a real superhero isn't the only problem, there is another whole layer not even mentioned in the previews that make this thing so convoluted most people will leave scratching their heads.

It's like two completely different movies.

Thats exactly what will happen and everyone knows it and its why everyone with a brain fucking hates Hollywood. They think were fucking morons who can't take an original plot, use the Cartman therum. People love him and he gets so much press because he doesn't change, hes always is a prick and never learns his lesson. For once I want to see a film with a awful main character that doesn't learn anything and resolves nothing but infact makes things worse.

This movie has the prime positioning slot (Fourth of July weekend), and yet I find I could not care less to see this movie in theaters.

Basically, I'm only going to get around to watching it once it hits the net (which should be only a few days after it opens). Not in theaters, or even on DVD. And even then, it takes a backseat to other films I'm going to watch on my computer rather than bother with at the theater. That's right, Will, you're behind Zohan and the Love Guru at this point.

I like Will Smith...

But seriously. This film seemed at the time alot better on paper that the actual final product. First off, the name. "HANCOCK." I think that I would have a better reaction if this film had a different title. It could be good. But I wouldn't be surprised if it does very poorly. And we all know that Will Smith can be better in other film roles.

Why should we pay to see a predictable film that will most likely be garbage.

The advance reviews of this film makes it sound like it has no idea what tone to take. Comedy, drama, gross-out comedy, etc. which is why there are tons of reshoots. Whenever I go to the theater they show the trailer for it and it barely gets any reaction.

I've been seeing a lot of movies this summer but I have no desire to see this in theaters. The reviews have also been uniformly bad. I really get irritated by mass-market, dumbed down attempt satire or commentary which all the reviews make it sound like. Completely without the edge it was pitched with.

I might end up seeing this one on my computer and I've really gotten away from doing that as of late.

Didn't you say you were going to see the love guru even though it got HORRIBLE reviews? How could this possibly be worse then the love guru?

I don't know, Hancock just doesn't strike me as being as simply awful as Myers work does. Either way I wouldn't pay to see either movie, I plan to pay to see batman 2 and hellboy 2 since they deserve the money.

the first preview i saw of this was Smith running onto a beach tossing a whale at a boat filled with innocent people

when the title "Hancock" came up i didnt think the movie was real because the first thing going through my head was "he jerks off alot and is really strong from it"

I guess its real though

You can tell when a big-budget movie is gonna suck when moviewatchers.com doesn't put up their review of it until it's been out for a week. They usually post them on opening day.

Imagine the reaction if they'd used the original title.

I saw this Tuesday night. The movie was schizophrenic. Felt like two different movies meshed together. Like Meteor Man meets Unbreakable. Or if Scary Movie was intercut with Scream.

The main actors were all very good, but the movie takes a HUGE left turn, both plotwise and style-wise. I think it would have worked whichever of the the styles they chose to stick with.

A lot of potential both story-wise and cast-wise, but misses the mark.

I haven't seen it, but my friend gave almost the same review - first 45 minutes were refreshing and fantastic, the rest of the movie was unwatchable.

Saw it tonight. I really enjoyed it. Only thing I really would have done differently if I was the one who made it would have been

Start the interaction between Hancock and Amy(was that her name? I already forgot) A little earlier. I mean, it was obvious from the first moment she saw him that they had a history, but that should have started earlier than it did.

I agree with what everyone's said about it being split in two, with the first half being better than the second. There were also times when I thought Will Smith was kind of mis-cast. He was too charming as Bad Hancock, his "nice" nature stuck out too much, like he was a PG-13 drunk guy. I would have much rather had a more scummy lead so the transformation would have worked better.

I also didn't like the director. That guy loves grainy shooting and close-ups. Lots and lots of close ups. So much so that I think a lot of the humor and the action was lost. I think Peter Siegel, the guy who directed Get Smart, would have worked a lot better.

One problem I had with the second half is that they didn't seem to know who to use as a villain. I was kind of disappointed when Charlize Theron showed up because I didn't think her character would throw away her family and life that quickly by doing such a dangerous, public show. When she discussed it calmly with him at the end, that made so much more sense to me.

I thought it was pretty good. You could see some of the plot twists coming a mile away but it worked. Could have something to do with the likable cast (including the kid who stepped up his hero worship from Tim Riggans to Hancock).

Hero worship or young gay love? I swear that kid looked like he wanted to suck Hancock off.

Can you blame him? Who among us haven't wanted to do that to Will Smith dating back to his "Parents Just Don't Understand" days?

Will Smith done did it again. Hancock pulled in $107 million over the 4th of July weekend. Has there ever been a bigger or more consistent blockbuster attraction than Will Smith? I don't think any other actor in Hollywood history starred in 12 movies that each grossed over $100 million at the box office.

I wonder if the scientologists will let him in now. 100 million to go from passing out flyers to having gay sex with tom cruise and holding his alien baby. There a crafty bunch!

Two halves yes, but I enjoyed the second half more. I understand your concerns about how they initated the "big battle" between the two and the heartfelt discussion was much better. I was very impressed with this movie and think it might be the one legitimate surprise movie of the summer.

Peter Berg definitely loves the close ups. I think his movies actually play better on a smaller scale. I enjoyed "The Kingdom" a lot more at home than I did in the theatre. Berg likes to hold onto a stable of character actors too.

Personally I hate the mellodrama of Superhero movies, so the first half was way better than the second half to me. Yes it was PG-13 scumbag, but hey.

And for anyone who doesn't get the name of the movie:

he had amnesia and was in a hospital and when he checked out of the hospital cause no one came to claim him the woman at the desk told him that he just had to sign his 'John hancock' on the paper to leave, so he thought his name was John Hancock

I liked it. What if Superman was not only a drunken asshole but a [INAPPROPRIATE BELL]?

Looks like a great premise, but I cringed when he did the press conference and said that he'd try to be good because the people deserve it (or some shit like that).

Yeah, but he was reading it off index cards, and the Jason Bateman dude obviously wrote it. It was almost as sincere as one of O&A's apologies.

I don't get the "it's like two different movies" criticism. Yeah, there's less outright comedy in the second half, but there's still some funny shit. And the more dramatic stuff is foreshadowed in the first half. It all made sense to me. What do people want, 90 minutes of him getting hammered and flying around wrecking shit? We got it after the first couple of scenes. They moved on from that.

Hancock sucked, i saw it twice...because i had to and it sucked. It was cheesy with the girl being his wife and that shit. Will Smiths new bit is the homeless guy. The hospital scene at the end was good but having him life sucked and it was annoying. This movie would have been better if before they went to the opening scene they built up some sort of a subtle backstory that would relate to the events that played out with the wife. Then the ending with Hancock putting the guys symbol on the moon.....ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww that was awful.
"Do you think I'll get into trouble for that"...eww

I expected it to suck when i first went into the movie and i was right.
