Amazon is takine pre-orders for a collectors edition of Fallout 3. I'm not sure what it all comes with, but one is an alarm clock that looks like a pip boy. The game isn't due to be released until September.

There is Xbox, PC, and PS3 versions.

As you can tell by my Avatar, I'm a huge fan of the series.

I'm tempted. The last time if you special ordered thru interplay, you got a Fallout static Sticker. What blows about special orders is that you end up waiting longer than if you went down to your local best buy and bought it off the shelf. You end up on a message board reading posts from people who have to beat the game 5 hours.

last I heard it was using the Unreal 3 engine. Using more colors than most of the games using it, though. Fucking Gears of War and all the 1000 shades of brown and gray everywhere. Geesh!

Fallout 3 looks to be great.

Everything after you see the main character was gameplay, it was taken almost completely from the on-stage demo from yesterday.
So far, Im still not letting myself get too excited, but there might be hope for this to remain faithful to F1 and F2. Time will tell, I guess.

It seems too first person. I thought it would play more like KOTOR. unless they are cutting out most of the game play, menu selections for example, to just show the flashy action sequences.

Don't forget about the RPG system that allows you to stop gameplay and target specific parts of enemies. VATS?

The dev kills himself with a couple nuke grenades at the end. Dunno if it's the same run through, but this is more of a playthrough interview and a lot of the Pipboy and VATS is explained and shown.

Am I the only one who thinks this game, visually looks like ass? Seems to have low res blurly textures, the landscape (from what we've seen) look bland/flat/ and not very impressive. It all looks like a high end PS2 title.

Am I wrong? Just wondering.

I hope we're not getting all those high-tech weapons early in the game. Then its just going to be another shooter. I remember in Fallout I you started out with a pistol and your skills were so low that it was easier to just kill a rat with your knife. Just getting a single shot hunting rifle was an achievement early in the game.

The Dev said he had a huge amount of health and all weapons just to show them off. I'm sure we'll have to scavenge and fight for anything above a knife or pistol to start.

Didn't pre-order? You fail (http://ps3.gamespy.com/playstation-3/fallout-3/909902p1.html)

Fallout 3 Survival Edition Sold Out (PS3): PlayStation 3 owners who haven't preordered through Amazon.com are out of luck.

IGN received a community update on its Fallout 3 blog today which is the bearer of bad tidings to PlayStation 3 owners. Bethesda's Matt Grandstaff notes that the exclusive-to-Amazon.com PS3 Survival Edition of the game is now completely sold out and has been removed from the popular digital store's retail pages. Here's the official word:

Just a head's up, we've received word from the folks at Amazon that the Fallout 3 Survival Edition for PlayStation 3 has sold out. So if you're looking for it on their site, now you know why it's not there. For those wanting to order the Survival Edition on Xbox 360 or Games for Windows, we're told these are expected to sell out soon as well.

If you missed it, the Survival Edition includes:

-Fallout 3 (yes, it has the game)
-A life-size replica of the Pip-Boy 3000, the wrist-mounted device worn by characters in the game.
-Vault Boy Bobblehead: Your very own Vault Boy collector's item is direct from Vault-Tec.
-The Art of Fallout 3: Features nearly 100 pages of never-before seen concept art and commentary from Bethesda Game Studios artists.
-The Making of Fallout 3 DVD: An exclusive, inside look at Bethesda Game Studios and the team behind the game.
-Vault-Tec Lunch Box: A fully customized metal lunch box.

So there you have it. Expect to see the PS3 Survival Edition appear on eBay closer to launch for outrageous sums of cash.

I still love GTA4. I'm still playing it, but I savor it like a fine wine. I should finish it before Episode 1 comes out. :icon_eek:

I would say I'm not hyped about Fallout 3 for a few reasons: I still can't get over how awful the game looks visually, but the worse is the combat: you can aim and shoot with skill of hitting the target or use the VATTS system that seems to let you deliver a head shot everytime. I want this to be an amazing game, but unless it's the best story ever told and you really feel like you're in this world of ruin, I think it's going to be a let down. IMO.

The devs have said they they cranked up the percentages in VATS for the demos to show off the effects. Same for the overboard gore when using VATS. I think in the final game a headshot just blows the head off, not limbs and everything else, too.

As for GOTY - dont forget Gears 2 and Fable 2.

Also, try this trick mentioned in the Bethdesa Forums. I'm at full speed again. Be sure to run it as administrator. The problem seems to be that steam isn't spreading people out on the servers. Everyone is downloading from the Atlanta server. This program tricks steam into moving you to another server.

Here was my reasoning. I really liked Fable. Awesome fucking game. But I played it for 2 days and had it beat. Pissed? Yeah, when I saw the credits all I could think of was, "Are you fucking seious?" 17 hours of gameplay.

If you liked Oblivion, it's a lot like that. Only the interface is better and easier to understand. So far, Fallout 3 is nothing short of amazing.

Twenty minutes in and this is the 8th time I've run into a group of hostiles with either machine guns, flamethrowers, or machine guns and flamethrowers. What the fuck, I'm like a mile away from Megaton.

You shouldn't be running into anything like that until you go south into DC. What difficulty setting do you have it on? I didn't see any automatic weapons until I did the supermarket mission. I didn't even want to go into DC until I get more XP points. I might have no choice because I now have bought everyones caps.

I'm on NORMAL! I decided to reload a couple hours later and I got attacked by three raiders with AKs and four attack dogs. I'm trying to deliver this message for the chick in the bar. Is this beyond my capability? I have 15 bullets for my AK, that's not enough to deal with what I keep running into. I can only think that this is something I'm doing wrong, but then I swear I went walking twenty seconds from Megaton and got my head shot off twice by a random sniper. This is just fucking leaving the place, I could still see the robot fucking sheriff.

Dude, that's your problem. You are no where near ready for that. I'm at level five and those guys are killing my ass.

You are using the targeting system, right? (right bumper on the XBOX). It's essential for crowds and some enemies.

I haven't been to 3Dog's station concerning the search for Dad. I was out just exploring and I ended up finding him (Dad) in a certain spot. I have no idea how much of the story I basically cut out. Needless to say, I went back a few saves so I can do the entire story.

Also, I'm like a Level 5 or 6 and my guy still takes a bit to kill shit. Those fire ants were a bitch.

Yeah, I backed off the fire ants. Shoot the antennai and they attack eachother, BTW. Also, legs on ants only take half damage, so aim for the head.

How is Fallout 3 a simulation? Saying an alternative history of 1950's (2207 or whatever the year is in the game) of a post-apocalyptic America is a simulation is insane.

Were you bitching how the Conbine soldiers in HL2 took more than one shot too? IT'S A GAME, NOT A SIMULATION. Fuck the complacent, "This is what i expect" crap.

If you are simulating EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE WORLD, from equipment wear, to how much knowledge you have in medicine and how that effects you, why in fuck would gun physics not also be bent towards realism? This isn't a top-view game where you get into 'random encounters' and take turns in combat. If it's trying to set itself apart as a hybrid game, which it is, is it so unfucking possible to make a rifle round to the eye fatal? I'm not sure why you think that is such a tall order.

Where are these drugs called "Jet" or "Mentats"? And when did Stimpacks HEAL? I PLAYED STARCRAFT, THEY HURT! IT'S NOT REALISTIC! Also, equipment wear ISN'T accurate. 75% of raider armor doesn't cover the entire body, yet you can easily get it to have more damage reduction than other armor. Durability is as "realistic' as it gets, which I'm sure people might not be happy about, but it's realistic to think that things that you scavenge for need constant repairing.

Mass Effect is more of an example of a RPG/Shooter Hybrid than Fallout 3 is if you are going for the "It shouldn't take 5 shots to the head for a kill" aspect. Are your really that much of a baby that you demand every game that allows you to headshot something to be a 1-2 hit kill? Too bad that a pistol can't be your one and only weapon for easy headshots. Like the others have said, get a shotgun, or a better weapon.

So apparently I am nuts for wanting a bullet in the braincase to be fatal. And how does it become a fucking Counterstrike clone because headshots are fatal? That's retarded. Look, I don't expect super mutants to go down that easy. But a frail fucker with football padding and a knife should not be so resilient. It's nice that you have a lot of passion about it though, for me it's simply an irritation. It's nice to see that the prospect of realism in a game pushes you from zero to outrage in two posts. I have a rifle now that puts most people down in one shot to the head anyhow.

Yes, because words on the internet carry inflection. Don't try to psychoanalyze me you dumb cunt.

The whole point was that your preconception of "If I can shoot it in the head, with ANY gun, it must die instantly" is stupid. If that was the case, then the challenge in the beginning would be nil, easier to level, and super mutants/mercenaries (pain in the ass) would either be too steep of a curve, or too easy because of the easy skill level of raiders.

And I have no idea where you got the idea where Bethesda said they were going for the most realistic simulation of a post-apocalyptic possible, but yes, you are nuts thinking this game has a high realisim %, and always had it going for it.

I love this game. It's a nostalgia thing. Just reminds me of when I was 13-14 and playing the first two Fallout games.

It would have been great to see the V.A.T.S. system broken down further to include hands/feet/eyes, and the characters to really be physically affected by them (unable to run or shoot two-handed weapons when one foot or hand is crippled). Being able to use the braces and crutches you find would have been cool too.

Other than that, I'm very happy with it. The setup will really work out for expansion packs if Bethesda decides to release any. I bought Fable 2 when it came out last week, and it can go fuck itself in the shitter with a bat wrapped in razor wire until I'm done with Fallout 3.

It's a fucking RPG, go on Wikipedia and look it up. It's based on hit points and statistics of the old RPG board games. It has a first person perspective but it's still doing the dice rolls of the old RPG's. It was made that way by design. If there was a magic button, like a head shot, then everyone would be running around with sniper rifles. The game is behaving just like the original fallout games and I couldn't be happier.

Bethesda's Hines says Fallout 3 will have Trophies

"It's going to happen, just not sure when," said Bethesda Softworks' Pete Hines in a live interview with Eurogamer. Hines had no further details on the Trophy support to be found in Fallout 3. He ended his answer with: "
We'll let folks know when we have something more definitive."

Other than that statement, nothing else pertaining to the PS3 version was revealed in the interview. Hines did not mention a date for the Trophies, and -- more importantly -- he did not mention whether Trophies would be retroactive. We also wonder if they'll be somewhat identical to the 360's achievements. There are still so many questions, Pete. Hopefully you'll have all the right answers when you've got something "more definitive."

When you enslave one of the four people the guard at the front wants, that person ends up in the building in the slave pen. Now you talk to the guard again and he gives you 250 bottlecaps.

Here is the cheat, if you go and talk to the prisoners you captured and then talk to the guard again, he gives you the 250 caps again. Rinse and repeat.

On another note.... It finally happened. I was fucking up some radscorpions and a protectron started shooting me from out of nowhere. So I'm running backwards to try and get a better position, and it froze. Lame. At least it wasn't towards the end of a mission or anything, and I did just save right before, but still, that's scary.

So I gotta say, SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!

Id say PC, personally.

It plays like a FPS until you hit the VATS key - real-time targeting and shooting.

I always use the VATS system to take on guys. You're never really forced into playing it the same way as an FPS.

With all that being said, Oblivion had a nice PC mod community - guys that already have worked around some of Fallout 3's bugs. So if your computer can handle it, then I guess PC is the way to go.

It seems like it varies a lot. The Doc is usually around in the morning, around 5am, cause that's usually when I leave megaton after a sleep. I think Crow sells ammo or apparel, but he usually doesn't have much. Your best bet is to conserve, never you a weapon to kill a radroach, and only on a dog when there are other enemies around (and dogmeat will usually take care of other dogs for you). Most of your ammo will come from exploration, and dead enemies.

Now I'm wondering how you guys take care of Deathclaws. I'm level 8, but I still seem to have problems with them if I don't get a lucky shot with a chinese assault rifle. Also, I have a problem with Mr. Gutsy's. I usually try to avoid them, but would like the xp.

At any time, I had around 50-70 missles. Although, I'm not one for explosions.

As for Deathclaws... just make a Dart Gun, it instantly makes them just as harmless as any other melee based enemy (Excluding Behemoths, but that's just because they are fucking huge).

Robots are the only real consistent problem. As far as I know, besides Pulse Grenades/Mines, they don't have a weakness to any specific weapon. I ended up taking the robot killer perk just to give a little extra help, but it still was a complete pain in the ass to attack the Security Bots/Mr. Gutsyies. Luckily, those are the only two enemies you need to worry about. The other two are either too weak, or have easy to spot weaknesses

There's quests that have options that will go towards neutral, like If you let the Ghouls into Tenpenny Tower instead of killing Tenpenny or convincing the tennents to allow the ghouls to live in the tower. If you do said example, you will lose karma if you are good or very good, or gain karma if you are bad or very bad.

You shouldn't worry too much about it, both positive and negative karma caps out at a certain point, and completing a quest with a neutral outcome can result you from going from very bad/good to just good/bad. Accumilating Karma at a certain point just becomes pointless, so don't worry too much about the outcome.

So you didn't talk to the scientist at rivet city? That was where you find out the last location your father was at. After going there, from his notes, you find out the location of vault 12 where he goes to find the Geck Technology. There isn't any mission pointing you there. You just have to go to the Jefferson Memorial to find his notes.

I faced a few deathclaws in the north-east and was a bit overwhelmed, so I went through all the trouble to make a dart gun, so I'll be giving that a try and hopefully it's effective.

The first one I faced kept strafing me, but never lunged forward to claw me, so it was really easy to dispatch of. That was just a fluke though. If they are facing you and you are running backwards shooting, you are pretty much fucked unless you have full health :)

And I'm just trying to get a bunch of good karma because I'm an achievement whore.

It doesn't matter, even if you send the BOS chick in there and live, the game still ends. I popped a couple Rad X too. I think the deal is if you are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. Not even Fallout 2 lives up to the choices you had with the original Fallout I. At least they gave you the choice of killing that backstabbing Overseer, or you walked away into the desert. Nothing can beat a cool ending than that. The end story they gave for the Fallout 2 was a lot more detailed too.

yep. the timing stinks for power armor. I had a set of power armor that I picked up and repaired to 100% to use and by the time I could use it, I was wearing no armor and just sneaking around and killing everything with one shot anyway. I ended up beating the game in a baseball cap and a suit with my combat shotgun and plasma rifle.

As far as exploring goes, there is no point other than to explore. Capping at level 20 is ridiculous. I finished the game at level 20 with a couple missions left in the main quest and didn't find nearly half of the locations. I think if I found 100% of the places I would have been level 30ish and 100 on all my skills, but the ending would have been no easier, it was still two headshots in the final room.

I use the scoped 44 magnum on the Crabs. Two or three shots to the face is all it takes.

Man i don't even think I've come across that gun yet, only ammo. and I'm already at level 9.
Have you made the Nuka-grenades yet? holy crap they are sweet.

The Nuka grenades are great. I just discovered that acquiring multiple copies of the same schematic is actually a good thing, as each successive copy allows you to make improved versions.
Oh, and the dart gun fucking RULES.

Wow I didn't even realize that, this game just gets better and better, I'm waiting for awhile to even come close to finishing main quest...kinda sucks you can't play after end. I'm gonna be an evil bastard on the next go around.

Im doing neutral right now. I disarmed the bomb in Megaton, then turned around, stole the sherrifs house key and raided the armory. :icon_evil
I know the v.2 Rock-it Launcher says its improved by 10% over the regular, but I dont know what it means by that.

Nice I saved it then tried to blast his son but he didn't get hurt. If I know i'm gonna do something evil i'll just make an extra save first. But that town is going down when I re-start the game. Did you buy the schematic for the launcher or find it?

I cheated one (teleported to the developer room) and bought I think 2 more. Ive bought 3 or 4 schematics in addition to getting one of each from the dev room. This is my second run through, so Im cheating a lot of shit just to see what all I can do with it. My character's SPECIAL is straight 10s this time, and at level 5 Ive already got 100 in small guns. I havent hacked my skills (yet) but I probably will be doing that over the weekend. I want to explore the whole map and try to get some of the unique weapons and other shit I missed last time.
Edit: If Im not mistaken, Kids are unkillable in F3.

You can find one in a safe in one of the first burned out houses you come across in Springvale, when you first leave the vault.

There is also one in the ground floor of Roosevelt Academy (lots of Super Mutants in there though). Its either in the nurse station, or the administration office. Can't quite remember.

No, I need all my Nuka Cola Quantums for the Nuka Cola Challenge Quest.
I'm maxed out on XP. I don't get the neat Kaching sound after killing something anymore.

I've been putting all my regular Nuka Colas in my Nuka Cola Machine at my house in Megaton.

Does anyone know what Ice Cold Nuka cola is good for? I'm assuming there is someone who will pay a premium price for them, like the chick who buys the Quantums. The damned Bitch at the Megaton Supply pays the same price as regular nuka-Cola. I'm assuming there is a practical reason to spend 600 caps for a machine to make ICe Cold Nuka Cola.

I came back to Megaton today and Jericho was lying dead in the street. Did I miss something? I never had him as a partner.

I did a search on this and people claim there is a bug where the megaton settlers sometimes manage to fall from the top of the crater to the bottom. Another person who falls and gets killed is Walter. He is way up top in the water purfication plant. This makes sense because I've not been able to find him since level Five.

I'm pretty sure they just give you more health than a regular one.

Bobobie

Yeah, someone told me they give you as much health as Quantum with still only +2 rads.

Oh, I ran across a bunch of Deathclaws way up north in a place called old Olney. I depleted my entire supply of 30+ stimpacks and over 40 missiles. I also used up whatever I had of mines and grenades. I then had to go get my armor and weapons repaired, get more missiles, and then go back to finish the job. These were nothing like the ones I ran across in the Enclave or random encounters. They didn't have a special name or anything, but they took damage like the giant mutants and one could kill me with 3-4 good swipes. They are also the fastest creatures in the game. You can't outrun these bastards. It was pretty humbling. At level 20, I kill most things with 1-2 shots.

Dude. Dartgun. It's the ONLY way to go. It's a fuckin savior. Unless there is more than one attacking you. Then it could still be a challenge.

Speaking of humbling. Anyone go into the Dunwich Building in the lower southwest corner of the map? I got about 15 feet in and high-tailed it out of there. Fucking creepy :)

Gotcha. I just have to find a paintgun and some surgical tubing. I'm just going to scrounge places I've already been thru. I didn't pick up a lot that stuff because I was always lugging more expensive loot like weapons and armor.

This game seems a lot smaller than Oblivion, but when it was being developed, I remember them saying that it would be much larger.

It was at least a lot easier to get quests in Oblivion. Everything is way more spread out and obstructed.

I wasn't expecting it to end when it did and I had to cheat to figure out how to do what had to be done. Still a fun game - the VATS system makes it.

Bobobie

You only think it's small until you find out how little you actually explored.
It's only really obstructed around the DC area. You have to use the Subway tunnel system to find most of the places, but once a place is located you can fast travel there from then on.

Level 12 and I am already more powerful than the first time I finished the game at level 20. I have the alien blaster, a321 plasma rifle, missles, flamer, reservist's rifle, blackhawk, combat shotgun, chinese assault and a sawed off shotgun. I still carry no armor, only a suit and the shady hat so I save a lot of weight with that part. I have about half of the bobbleheads so far and have explored almost the entire map except the downtown area. My dude is 100% evil this time to the point where I used the mister sandman to kill everyone in Megaton before blowing up the town.

Bad is fun.

That sounds like fun.
Yeah, I'm not going to spread my skills out as much next time. I'm going to concentrate on three areas and pick perks that build those up.
I finished the Nuka Cola Challenge ... it was underwhelming. That was my last outstanding sidequest. I'm going to start a second game now.

mister sandman is really tough to use. I think the next perk I am getting will be lady killer to see what it does for conversations.

and I wonder if they will bring out a Commonwealth expansion.

They need to make this into a movie. The story isn't the greatest, but post-apocalyptic D.C. would be amazing on the big screen. I would want a movie on the Brotherhood of Steel alone.

Bad is fun.Seems like it's always easier to be bad in these types of games.

I had reached a point where I kept dieing, so I set the difficulty to the lowest setting. Then the game just became fun - it changes the experience from a series of challenges to just being a kind of interactive story.

So what's everyone's favorite weapon?

I think The Fisto is still my favorite.

It's also pretty cool when the Mysterious Stranger shows up.

I'm loving Lincoln's repeater. One headshot kills on Enclave soldiers. Most of the time I switch between that, a combat shotgun, Chinese assault rifle, and Reservist's sniper rifle. Depending on the situation.

my next thing I want to do now is to hunt and kill all 5 Mutant Bohemoths. And I am about to head to the GNR building for the first one.

As for my favorite gun, mine has to be the A3-21 plasma rifle. it turns people to dust when you kill them with it.
