Benoit Murder-Suicide Anniversary Today, Released Star
06/22/2008 by Ryan Clark
Today is the one-year anniversary of the biggest three-day news event in the history of professional wrestling. One year ago today, Nancy Benoit was murdered by husband Chris in their Fayetteville, Georgia home.
With that being said, i would like to ask a question, that sounds like something my English teacher would ask lol. I'm an ass lol-
"How do you view the Chris Benoit controversy?, In what ways has it helped the professional wrestling business and in what ways has it hindered and cast a shadow on it?"
sorry i had to, but i am interested in your opinions on the topic because i didn't post in the wrestling forum when the whole Benoit thing happened so i didnt get to see your thoughts on it.
Hell a lot can happen in a year, as we all saw with the events that followed the Benoit Murders.
My whole view point on it is basically what most peoples are, it was senseless and disgusting act. I have lost all of my respect for Chris Benoit in that sense. When it comes to all that he did in the ring, how he revolutionized, and took people under his wing, that i do have respect for. You can talk to many people and they will give you single minded answers because they get all of their information from what the news feeds them and they dont realize what kind of person he was and all of that other stuff.
After reading Chris Jericho's book and how he talked about Benoit and all that he said about him, it didnt cause me to gain respect for him but it made me more open minded to the situation and what people were saying about him. But you can look at the whole controversy in a somewhat positive light because if those events never took place we would still have the loose wellness policy, this controversy forced the WWE to really take a stand on steroids and prevented situations like Benoit's and also they have saved life's because of it. Sooner or later i think that the WWE will induct him into the hall of Fame, but it will not be anytime soon, that is for damn sure.
All in all i have no remorse for him and he deserves all that he gets, but you can not erase what he did in the ring and the lives that he touched before the event that took place a year ago.
That is a brief, half assed analysis of my views of the Benoit situation, I could talk more about this situation and the affects but its mostly all stuff we already know and have discussed.
