So I'm playing COD4 the other day when all of a sudden, I get kicked out of a game and get the message "disc could not be read, may be damaged or dirty". I am immediately puzzled, because the disc never leaves my console, so how can it be dirty? So i pop it out , turn it over, and lo and behold, there are fucking grooves cut into the disc in five places. It looks like I put it on a turntable and tried to play it like a record with a scalpel.

I go online and google the problem and yes it turns out the Xbox360 also scratches discs if used "frequently". Fucking lovely.

They do have a "disc replacement program", but here's the kicker: its limited to about 10 games, none of which are COD4.

For now, it seems to only shut down the game on the Bog level, but still. It's fucking ridiculous to have to deal with this shit.

Once again, fuck you Microsoft.

Had the same shit happen on my old X-box (Before mine broke and got sent a new one from MS). It scratched the fuck out of Dead Rising, I never looked into a replacement program.

OEM manufacturers have started making replacement drives for the 360 that sell for like 20-30 bucks. I know it's a customer service issue and fuck Microsoft and everything, but you might save some time and head aches by just replacing the disc drive and going about your day.

there is no banning anymore with the latest 360 firmwares. I have play on live everyday. Just make sure you have the dmi, pfi and ss on each disc and you are set.

Horizontal.

i got that and it turned out my hard drive was bad

I'm just going to take my discs out from now on and try not to play as long as I do. I got my Xbox last Christmas, already had the RROD and now this? I ain't putting another penny into this shit. I'm just waiting for the thing to explode and kill me. It's the only thing left for it to do.

I've read that baking soda/toothpaste can remove scratches, so I'm gonna try that later. Anyone else ever hear of that method? I just hope it doesn't fuck the disc up any more.
