it's a good movie. Saw it last night at midnight. A lot of ADORABLE moments. The first 30 minutes or so go without dialogue, but they do a good job of doing character development without any.

Well I'm not 7, a parent, or dating a retarded girl, so I see no reason for ever watching this film.

I generally don't see animated movie but something about it makes me want to see it. Animation looks damned good.

Just got back from seeing it, with a theater filled with parents, teens, and children, (who were surprisingly quiet in a film with a very small amount of dialogue). Well, first I'll get this out of the way, I LOVED it. It was an amazing film, the animation was dynamite, and extremely beautiful to look at, (but this time, for a change, there was a GOOD story to back up the "pretty colors"). I loved Wall-E and EVE, they were two of my favorite Pixar characters to watch, pretty much ever. It did have a lot of "cute" moments, which were for the kids, because after all it's a KIDS movie. But, it was very well animated, has a great story and characters, (won't spoil them, obviously), and it's a definite must-see, (better than half the trash being shoveled into the theaters these days). It makes some interesting social statements, about, where THEY think society is going by treating the Earth in a "bad way", (cough Al Gore), and all of the obese Americans there are. But, those Left-Wing, liberal themes are not prevalent in any way, so they don't detract from the greatness that this film is. I found it to be one of Pixar's best. The main thing I loved was, it handled some dark and heavy issues, which was a step ahead, opposed to all the cutesy stuff in the other films, although this film does have it's share of cutesiness. Well, I'm babbling..

Definitely go see it, take the family or girlfriend, (<----- douche chills).

I give it "Two Claps"!!! :icon_roll :clap::clap:

Wall-E is a great movie. The short cartoon before the movie was worth the price of admition (I'm a sucker for cartoon violence).

My wife and I disagreed about the "underlying social/political commentary". I think it's just a science fiction based story and that she's looking too deep into it. I actually heard an interview with the writer on NPR and he said that (some of the things that happen later in the film) was just part of the story. Because why else would they need Wall-E ?

Jeff Garland (Curb Your Enthusiasm) does a voice in it and does an amazing job. The animation is incredibly detailed, and makes Toy Story look crude in comparison. I would go and see this movie again.

I totally forgot about that short film. It was great to see old school, loony toon-ish violence in an animation like this.

Is most of the 'dialogue' beeps and shit between WallE and the other robots ? I thought I remember reading something like that a while back, that Pixar was a little concerned about that aspect of it.

I was hoping a mod would change "Best reviewed movie of the year" to "Wall*E" so people would actually know what it's about.

But yeah I saw it and was blown away by it. Not the 9th greatest movie of all time as per IMDB but seriously, I was surprised by how fantastic it was. It hit on all levels- visually, storywise, characterwise. I could have spent the entire movie watching him clean Earth.

(And before people say "Ewww liberal global warming ewww." If you really think the idea of garbage, pollution and obesity are Democrat conspiracies, come on.)

It's the type of movie you can take kids to (kids were surprisingly quiet in my theater), your chick to or just enjoy it yourself.

And the short before hand was pretty cool too.

Ultimately I look at the background environmental issues as a Mcguffin to the greater story. That being of a robot who develops emotions and is totally isolated against his will set against a society of humans who've entered a self-imposed isolation willingly.

Actually, it's funny that you bring that up, because when he said that, it registered in my mind, I kind of chuckled out loud in the theater, but no one else seemed to pick up on it, (well, considering it was 92% children, it's not surprising).

I fuckin' loved this movie and I really hope it's looked at as a movie when awards time comes around. I'm sick of pixar winning best CGI, Animation, VO, etc... I want to see this get nominated for picture of the year. Because so far, it is.

Although, if you have a child, I do what you to sit them down and explain that since president Fred Willard stayed on Earth, with countless other people; those people are now all dead. :icon_mrgr

Making the president of Buy N Large so important and powerful, that he basically assumes the position of president of the United States was genius.

i agree, and as a matter of fact i tried to explain the entire film to my son as it went on and we discussed it later, not only the social implications of the film. its references to history and other modern films/literature. but also the quality, i think its one of the best pixar films ever. (and monsters ink was great) the texturing alone was phenomenal, and we saw it on a shitty small screen (multi plex TV in a tube) i almost wish we had tried to see it in either imax or just a bigger screen (they are hard to come buy around my neighborhood) my kid is very interested in CGI and computer game design

Christ I can't even make a comment right. I ment to say kung fu panda was 100% better.

I don't know I tried watching it again but it just makes me angry everytime I hear EVE!!! EVE!!! WALLLLE WALLLE! Kung fu panda had no romance (a gigantic plus in my book) and really cool fight scenes with a little humor thrown in. Also that turtle character was much more of a "heart warming" character, I feel gay for saying that. The animation was great no question there but it just wasn't a fun movie to me.

That rabbit and magician thing at the beginning had me howling with laughter and that was completely unexpected. Then it cuts in with the robot with puppy dog eyes that cleans the world which was alright. Then they had to go Hollywood and add a female robot which just angered me. Then I thought ok its a emotional type movie but I kept waiting for the real emotional scene and none really showed up. Like in kung fu panda when Po is giving up after hearing everyone make fun of him and the turtle giving him advice or when the snow leopard is yelling to his old master, "TELL ME HOW PROUD YOU ARE SHIFU! TELL ME!" While his hands are burning were really good emotional scenes but nothing in walle really struck me as good as that.

Saw it this weekend. Pixar has come a long way from Toy Story in terms of stories and animation. I won't go as far as to say it's the bets movie of the year, as it was kind of boring at times, and after watching the shorts online, I was hoping for more clumsy/curious/funny moments from Wall-E.

I saw it over the weekend too, went into it expecting to be wowed from all the great reviews its been getting. I wasn't impressed and actually thought it was a pretty boring movie. I was impressed by the some of the shots, scenes, and animation and it was visually awesome. Just boring.

I saw Kung Fu Panda later that night and enjoyed it much more than WALL-E, it wasn't animated as well but was actually pretty funny.

Funny... many many other president's have said we need to "stay the course" -- in fact it was one of the catch phrases Dana Carvey used in '92 when he played the prior President Bush. The best thing about all the libs taking this movie as their own is that there are plenty of conservative religious types out there who are espousing the movie as a great Noah's Ark type parable, with Eve coming in as the dove bringing back the olive branch.

This movie is way overrated. It was OK at best. Im pissed i saw this and not Batman.

In summary:
1. People are fat and lazy

4. Computer animation can make shit look real.

Saw it this weekend. Visually it was awesome, incredibly creative. I was amazed at how lifelike they were able to animate Wall-E in terms of his emotions. Really dug the silent movie feel it had in the beginning as well.

The story itself was OK, nothing incredible. The fatties were funny, but I think the love story overshadows any social commentary that was made. Not the funniest Pixar film, but I don't think they were necessarily going for a comedy. I would describe it as Romance/Sci-Fi/Adventure/Comedy, in that order.

Still can't top Toy Story 1 and 2.
