I'm not sure if any WWE employees that are fans of O+A read this board, but if you do, I wish to thank you.
As is evidenced from my screen name here, I am a huge fan of CM Punk, have been since his ROH days. Having him win the title from Edge Monday night has turned me from a jaded WWE fan to a once again hardcore fan. It is not just that Punk is world champ, but putting the Intercontinental Belt on Kofi Kingston is another great move by your writing department. Over a year ago I stated that I would never spend another dime on WWE merchandise. I admit that I did attend Wrestlemania 24 in Orlando, but my friend paid for the tickets, and I gave him money, so no money of mine went to your pockets. With the current direction of your product since the draft last week, I have to say you are doing a better job to retain fans, and make new ones, as well as giving the "younger" stars their due. I will now again purchase WWE products and support your programs. In the last year plus, I have only tuned in to your programs out of habit, and to have something to watch. I can now say that I look forward to watching your programs again. Thank you WWE for the current direction of your product.

Monday was one of the cool moments in RAW that I could remember. It kinda sucked that when Batista ran down, I decided to go take a piss because I chalked it up to just a run in beat down thing. Thank God for Tivo cause I was able to hit rewind and check the whole thing out. I have to say that RAW was one of the first ones ive watched without FFing the majority of it. Im not a huge Punk fan since I never watch ecw but it was a great surprise and I think things like that which kept me watching in the early 'attitude' days is what the wwe has been missing the last couple of years. Raw has just seemed like the same script where the top heel/face starts the show with a promo and it ends with a main event run in.
My only beef is that Im pretty much a RAW guy and rarely watch Smackdown and never watch ECW. I hate that JR is gone from RAW cause I know Ill never be tuning into smackdown. I can do without seeing HHH for a while tho. Wish thiey took Cena too.

Don't start going crazy, Mark. If history tells us anything, it's that they're bound to screw this up.
They already fucked it up. Rather than build him into this heated storyline where this underdog, smaller guy overcomes the odds and defeats the dominating World Champion, they went ahead and just had him take a "cheap win." Where does it go from here? Do they make a Mikey Whipwreck out of Punk? Or does he suddenly become this dominating figure? To me, it's kind of shitty that he didn't get to go over after a long build up for the title, but at the same time, I understand the story. Edge finally has karma bite him in the ass. He did the same thing to Cena to win the belt, and it came back to haunt him down the road... But at the expense of throwing Punk in there? For what? So WWE can say their World Champion doesn't do drugs or drink? Please. Spare me the bullshit.
He definitely deserved better than that. You could have just as easily built him up as a guy who drove the long roads across the country for twenty and thirty bucks, worked the awful shows and slept in cars, and whatever else to make his win that much more significant. Make the fans give a shit. That will bring the money in. A hard worker who busted his ass to get where he is. Some form of a modern day role model for the younger fans that they're trying to target now... Rather than appease the media and stockholders and rush it. Bleh. Oh well, good for him though. I hope he just gets an opportunity to run with the ball now that he has it.

Are you fucking with me? There are few things worse they could have done than turn Punk into a "little underdog". That would be shitting on one of the best talents in a long, long time. The fans do give a shit. They don't need to make him a fucking sob story for the fans to care.

You mean to tell me he should be treated like Goldberg then? Just mowing through people? Let's face facts. CM Punk is half the size of Batista. He's even smaller than guys like Edge and Jeff Hardy. The fans that have been watching give a shit.. but if you think he's in that upper-tier of stars that people will go out and buy a PPV to see *RIGHT NOW*, you're wrong. Just flat out wrong. It takes building up. It takes a meaningful title win to solidify him as a star, and really show that the company has his back. They just kind of pushed him forward and said "Here ya go kid." I didn't say make him a sob story. But I certainly wouldn't say he should go into a match against a guy twice his size and make the other guy look like a fucking clown. That's not even remotely realistic.
What I'm saying isn't meant for him to appeal to the internet fans. He has that already, and I don't think he'll EVER lose that. I'm talking about the other people who really don't read any dirt sheets or message boards. The casual viewer that kind of needs to get gently nudged away from guys like Triple H and Shawn Michaels, and begin looking to the future of the business. This way, he doesn't turn into a flop. People will be able to stand behind him because they feel as if they watched him evolve from this guy on ECW TV (remember, not including the internet ROH/IWA:MS fans), to the World Heavyweight Champion. Rather than some hokey bullshit "I won the title because Big Bad Batista softened Edge up for me, and then I had some clusterfuck finish to my match that was meant for me to Prove I am a viable World Champion later on that night."
Shawn Michaels started off as a joke, evolved to this underdog story (and Punk IS about the same size as Shawn), which later evolved to one of the greatest champions the company has ever seen. Punk can very easily do the same, but if they just shove him into the spotlight without a chance to get people behind him, he'll flop hard, just like Jericho. And then we'll be forced to a few more years of these juiced up freaks that couldn't wrestle their way out of a paper bag. But what do I know, right? Have fun with the Russo booking.

Jericho didn't flop. He got fucked in the ass. Hard. He was MEGA over, yet they continually derailed him every time it started to look like he was going to get pushed as a major star.
Russo booking? Please. I'm not saying he should be booked like Goldberg. I'm saying he shouldn't be booked like he's some fucking chump who needs our sympathy. It just doesn't fit him. He's a cocky young guy with an attitude and he has the skills to back it up. Nobody said he should get in the ring with Batista and beat him in 2 minutes. But what he should be able to do is be treated like a guy who is a viable threat to Batista NOW. A guy who doesn't need the announcers to doubt if he will be able to pull off a victory against the big bad monsters.
They already pulled the trigger and made him the champion. They already had him cut the promo with JBL where he accepted the title challenge and made himself out to be a guy who will take on any comers and doesn't bullshit about it. The fans are behind him, and if they keep him on this track where WWE treats him like he's the real deal, the fans will continue to buy into it. If they paint the title win as basically a fluke and make it seem like every defense is going to be a nearly impossible uphill battle, then they've fucked it all up.
It's very simple. You just have him hold his own with the other guys. He beat Matt Hardy and Chris Jericho on the same night a little over a month ago. He's had multiple very even matches with Edge, two of which Edge won thanks to outside interference. And the fans bought every bit of it. It would be silly to turn him into an inspirational story. He should be booked as a legitimate guy who was smart enough to understand that this past Monday was the right place and the right time, and now he's out to show that he can hang with the big dogs. But not in a "everybody is always skeptical of him" way. In a "hey, this guy actually lives up to the way he talks about himself" way.

CM Punk was one of the forefathers of ROH. He was one of the pillars that set the standard in ROH with memorable matches, promos and happenings. Now we want all the new Punk fans to witness Punk at his best in ROH. You can't call yourself a CM Punk fan until you've seen his work in ROH.
We have chosen some special DVDs that all CM Punk fans must see. We know money is tight so now these DVDs are on sale for only $12 each at www.ROHwrestling.com for a very limited time. Here are the Punk DVDs that you need to see for yourself to know the true CM Punk. Check out these titles for under $12 each for a very limited time:
-First of all, If you want a very personal look at CM Punk check out "Straight Shootin' With CM Punk & Samoa Joe" (http://www.rohwrestling.com/shoponline.asp?point=moreinfo&catid=200&id=1220) as these two friends talk about life on the road, their careers and much, much more.
-"World Title Classic" (http://www.rohwrestling.com/shoponline.asp?point=moreinfo&catid=161&id=285): ROH was a struggling company at its lowest point. CM Punk stepped forward and put the promotion on his back as he challenged now TNA World Champion and then ROH World Champion Samoa Joe for the ROH Title. The result was a classic that made everyone remember that ROH does pro wrestling best.
-"Death Before Dishonor II: Part 1" (http://www.rohwrestling.com/shoponline.asp?point=moreinfo&catid=161&id=1752): CM Punk & Colt Cabana put the ROH Tag Team Titles on the line against Jay & Mark Briscoe in a 2/3 Falls Match in the main event. Why is this one significant? Not only does it spotlight Punk as one half of the ROH Tag Champs, but Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat called it the best tag match he has ever seen live. Compliments don't get any bigger than that.
-"Joe vs. Punk II" (http://www.rohwrestling.com/shoponline.asp?point=moreinfo&catid=161&id=807): The first Samoa Joe vs. CM Punk battle for the World Title was so great that a rematch had to be signed. This one was given five stars by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter and has gone down in history. The match was so good that Mick Foley watched the entire thing from the crowd and called it one of the best bouts he's ever seen. This is can't miss for all Punk and Joe fans.
-"Death Before Dishonor III" (http://www.rohwrestling.com/shoponline.asp?point=moreinfo&catid=161&id=1352): If you only get one DVD off this list make it this one. It was supposed to be CM Punk's final night in ROH before signing with WWE. Instead, it turned into one of the most surprising situations anywhere in wrestling this decade. This special 2 DVD set was designed to be an ode to Punk with highlights of his entire stay in ROH and a great World Title Match against then Champion Austin Aries. It doesn't get more essential than this double DVD set.
-"Redemption" (http://www.rohwrestling.com/shoponline.asp?point=moreinfo&catid=161&id=1450): No one knows what is going to happen next as CM Punk's ROH World Title reign continues. Punk is faced with three of his toughest enemies when he puts the World Title on the line vs. Samoa Joe vs. Christopher Daniels vs. James Gibson in an epic Elimination Four Way. The end of an era starts here.
-"Punk: The Final Chapter" (http://www.rohwrestling.com/shoponline.asp?point=moreinfo&catid=161&id=1451): CM Punk finally says goodbye to ROH on this emotional farewell show. You'll see exactly how much ROH means to Punk and Punk means to ROH as the tears flow when CM Punk battles long time friend Colt Cabana in a 2/3 Falls Match.

-"Best Of Second City Saints - Chicago's Elite" (http://www.rohwrestling.com/shoponline.asp?point=moreinfo&catid=186&id=947): CM Punk joined forces with Colt Cabana and Ace Steel to be one of ROH's greatest factions ever. This compilation focuses on tag team wars against a wide variety of opponents.
