Even though I rooted for Bonner in the first fight, I like Griffin. Not sure who I want to win tonight though. Overall I think that Rampage is better and would give us better fights and matchups in the long run so I'll root for him but if Griffin wins I won't be upset.

I also hope that Koscheck gets choked out again. I hate that faggot.

They both are, like I said my heart was with Griffin, but my brain was with Jackson, it was like that on paper, but with emotion involved it was a tough fight to call. I'd like to see a rematch, I feel that if Griffiin didn't hurt Jackson's leg, it would have been an extremely different fight.

That's exactly what happened here. I was so mad when he paused, then when he said "new" I yelled so fucking loud that I startled every single person at this party. Forrest is the fucking man.

Just got home and watched the ppv on dvr (takes only about an hour or so to do), over all shitty fights except for the title fight...which was fucking great! I like both Rampage and Forrest, but you got to give forrest credit for coming in with a great gameplan and incredible heart. I would love to see a rematch of this one before chuck. I actually think that Forrest was kind of in shock. I thought he would be much more emotional but I'm not sure it sunk in that he's got that belt just yet.

I also think that if Forrest didn't fuck up Jackson's leg, it'd be a different outcome, which is another reason I would love to see a rematch. Watching the ppv replay now, it was really cool to see Bob Kelly and Jim Norton sitting behind Mandy Moore. I noticed Bob the first time around (how could you not) but i caught Jimmy this time. Very cool (thanks Dana). I only disagree with what you call shitty fights. It was a very technical night which that statement coming from you is very surprising. Sub of the night should go to Stevenson, on the replay it looked like he baited Tibau into that guillotine, absolutely beautiful . I hope Chris Lytle gets a bonus for his tremendous heart against Koscheck, which still baffles me why he didn't finish him off, but for that Kos gained a lot of respect in my book. Fight of the night should definitely be the main event which lived up to and exceeded my expectations.

I thought it was going to be a draw. Rampage clearly won round 1, I think Forrest deserved a 10-8 for round two. Round three was the swing round and I thought Rampage won it for the same reason as round 4- effective aggression. Rampage landed cleaner punches, I think Forrest got credit for a lot of high kicks that were checked and punches that were parried. Forrest round 5.

Rampage was shameful in his game plan, and Forrest was great with his. Rampage was giving up too much in size and reach to stand on the outside. Crappy undercard but the main event was very good. Forrest has improved a lot.

there were a lot of wrestling blanket fights going on. it wasnt exactly sanchez vs diaz, or barnett nogueira on the ground in there.

Sniper I would like to stand corrected (in classic shining phrasage). I went back and you were very correct. The Stevenson fight was very good and he did a nice job of baiting him into that guilootine and Lytle showed unbelievable heart in one of the bloodiest matches I've seen. The thing was his vision amazingly enough didnt seem that compromised and was probably the reason they let it go on. Gurgel was put into a nice triiangle by Cole Miller by the way. And Guillard, if he matures, could become a force to reckon with...or become the LW Pete Sell.

As people who know me on here will know, my comment that they were shitty fights is attributed to my current sleep deprivation...off to nappy nap for me now!

I thought the main event was very close, but I was surprised Griffin ended up taking it, especially in a unanimous decision. I assume the reason he won was because of aggression. Forrest took a lot more strikes than he gave, but other than a couple times, Forrest got his because he went in and tried something while Rampage kinda held back. Other than at the end of a couple rounds and once or twice in the middle, Rampage just waited for Forrest to attack him.

I really can't see any other way Forrest won the fight. Which is fine -- it's a legitimate way to win, but as far as I can tell that's the backbone of the reason he did win.

I'm just glad he won. That's my boy.

Well I'll give my take on how Forrest probably one that fight.

round one goes to Rampage 10-9
round two goes to Forrest and was not out of the realm of possibility of a 10-8 round
round three could go either way, but for arguments sake Rampage 10-9
rounds 4 and 5 I think that Forrest had a great gameplan of sticking and moving and just picked him apart. I think forrest did enough in both rounds to take them...and honestly, I dont think Rampage did enough to even win round 3...but saying that the result would have been...

Forest 48-Rampage 47
and with a 10-8 second round 48-46

The judges agreed with me actually in the 48-46 with the exception of one who gave 4 rounds two forrest. It may not have been a dominating fight, but his gameplan was fantastic, stick and move and he was scoring points. Rampage threw a lot of wild stuff that I dont think connected as well as some may think. In some ways it kink of reminded me of Griffin vs Bonnar I with the exception that Forrest tightened up his stand up game.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Forrest landed more he was the busyer fighter. Rampage landed 2 punches and got a takedown, then forrest stood right back up.

yeah Id argue just the opposite. When Rampage landed, you knew it, cause it hurt Forrest and he backed far off. Forrest's punches didnt land nearly as clean as Rampage's did.

I really think Forrest benefits from exceeding expectations.

round 1 Rampage, Round 2 Forrest is basically the only thing most agree on. the first was pretty even until the knockdown.

It was a good fight, I completely overlooked Forrest heart, I guess I got caught up with Rampage's win over Liddell and Hendo, but I should have known better. It seemed like Forrest was the aggressor for most of the fight and that probably played a big role on the judges decision. I actually scored the fight 48-47 Rampage unless the second round was 10-8 then 47-47. Either way, it was a great fight, both guys are class act and I can't wait for the rematch.

Forrest should have lost a point in round 1 for grabbing the cage when he had Rampage in his guard to get himself away from the fence

IIRC, there was some cage-grabbing in the other fights that went unnoticed, too. I just thought it was kind of weird.

The only reason I think it should have happended in this case was, it wasn't a situation where you are being taken down and it is a natural reaction to grab something. Forrest was on his back looked back grabbed the cage to help him get a better position.

That kind of came off like I was saying he shouldn't have been penalized because nobody else did, which I didn't mean. I guess I just meant I'm not surprised it went unnoticed by the ref/judges.

not on this board. I was rooting for rampage and I only thought he won 1 rd, 2 were close but he only WON 1 rd. Forrest landed more he was more aggressive and he fought a better fight. Like I said earlier Rampage landed 2 good punches the whole rd. He lost there is no denying it it wasn't close forrest kicked his ass end of story.

the board is then in the minority regarding round 1, and whether or not it was close. most of the write ups from mma's journalists called it practically even. Forrest himself said he was hurt by most punches Rampage threw, and he said it was so close it warranted a rematch.

your opinion is fine, but it isnt the common one.

fuck my opinion. heres one from Randy Couture, from Griffen's camp

"I thought that it was a very, very close fight," Couture said. "I thought that it was three rounds to two [for Griffin]. I thought that Quinton did enough to win two of the rounds clearly. I thought they may have been able to give Quinton a 10-8 round in the first round with the knockdown and then the second round you could have given Forrest a 10-8 round.

"And it could have went the other way. If one or two rounds went the other way, it could have been three rounds to two for Quinton. It was that close."

Randy is Forrest's manager not just in his camp.

I love both guys but I honestly thought Forrest won. I don't know if he will be able to keep it long with Machida getting a shot.

I agree with Liddells trainer more than ever- Machida beats everyone. Though Id like to see him fight Anderson Silva.

it wouldnt be a box office hit, but its a martial arts super fight. They are two of the only actual traditional martial artists in the game. And Machida is really a natural 185 pounder anyways.

I dont see Machida getting a title shot soon though. Too many people with the friends of dana white card holders in line

From Compustrike.com:

Inside the Numbers: Griffin was clearly the busier fighter overall, throwing 268 more total strikes than Jackson. Jackson was more efficient (and landed the harder shots), landing 49% of his total strikes to 33% for Griffin. Jackson had a 67-48 edge in arm strikes landed, 64 of which were power strikes to 47 for Griffin.

Griffin had the advantage in the ground game. He had a 46-14 edge in ground strikes landed, bolstered by a 44-0 edge in round two. In fact, Jackson did not land a single strike the entire five minutes after absorbing a numbing leg kick two minutes into the round. Griffin also had four submission attempts and registered two dominant positions.

Griffin’s huge round two was the difference in the fight.

I really don't see how anyone can think this fight was close. Forrest won outright. His striking was better his ground work was better and his overall cage presents was better. Rampage landed some good shots but they were few and far between. I thinks it's a "homer" thing like in football.

So, you gave round 4 to Griffin? Even though he was getting rocked, got busted open, slammed, and rocked some more? Call it how you see it, man

I just don't see how Forrest won this. Yes he was the busier fighter, but Rampage dodged most of his punches. Rampage was never hurt, unless you count his knee and the take down in round 2, which still didn't shake him up, and Forrest's performance was not convincing. He was more aggressive, but not very accurate nor effective. His best weapon was the leg kick which landed the most consistently of his other strikes. So, you give the guy a belt because of his leg kicks?

no, stupid, I didn't give rd 4 to forest rampage won that one so next time read all the posts before you put your 2 cents in, but it's a 5 rd fight. Rampage wasn't very accurate or convincing either. And stop being a fanboy rampage was hurt in the 2nd rd so just stop. Leg kicks are stikes to. It was a close fight rds 3 and 5 coulda went either way but overall forrest won he's the champ end of story.
