News continues to pour in about the upcoming Battlestar Galactica TV-Movie, which will be filmed after the completion of the fourth and final season of the series. The website GalacticaSitrep is now reporting that Galactica staff writer Jane Espenson (a longtime writer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) will write the TV-Movie, which has been confirmed by SyFyPortal in an interview with Galactica supervising producer David Weddle. Weddle revealed that he and Bradley Thompson (who've been with Galactica since the beginning) were originally going to write the TV-Movie, but the duo have accepted a new job on CSI which would have conflicted. Weddle says he and Thompson helped the Galactica staff outline the TV-Movie, but will now move immediately to CSI.

I hope it's better than the clusterfuck that was Razor. I really expected that to be more than it was.

Not to keen on a flashback but depending on how they end the series there may be no choice. I'll be cautiously optimistic about this.

The people behind Galactica certainly know how to dick the audience around.

The future of the Battlestar Galactica franchise at SCI FI Channel is starting to become a little more clear. To catch everyone up, already shot is the TV-Movie Caprica, starring Eric Stoltz and Esai Morales, which is a prequel set 50 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica. Caprica is a "backdoor pilot", shot with the hope that an ongoing series will continue after the TV-Movie. Then there is the as yet untitled Galactica TV-Movie shooting in August, which will use cast members from the regular series and is said to take place sometime during Season 1 of the series.

SCI FI was said to be considering up to three Galactica TV-Movies. Now however, the Chicago Tribune's Maureen Ryan, who was the first to report on the TV-Movies, has heard that the one shooting in August is likely to be the only one. What's still unclear is when it will air - though it's assumed it will be sometime before the final episodes of Galactica debut early next year.

The Cylons keep on keeping on

Meanwhile, Ryan says that the future is looking bright for Caprica. A source close to the show tells her SCI FI has now ordered two more Caprica scripts, for potential episodes of an ongoing series. Ryan says that Battlestar's executive producer Ron Moore continues to be involved with Caprica, along with two Battlstar writers, Michael Angeli and Mark Verheiden. They are joined by Ryan Mottesheard, a former writers' assistant on Battlestar. The Caprica TV-Movie is expected to air this fall.

As for the show that all these TV-Movies and spinoffs are generated from, production on the fourth and final season of Battlestar Galactica wrapped last week.

SCI FI Channel has officially announced the much-discussed new TV-Movie for Battlestar Galactica, which will take place during the early days of the series. In the press release, SCI FI notes the TV-Movie won't air until after the final ten episodes of the series have debuted in 2009, and will then be released on DVD by Universal Studios Home Entertainment shortly thereafter.

Confirmed are the participation of Jane Espenson as writer and Edward James Olmos as director. It seems Olmos won't be appearing on screen though, as the plot description reads: "Starting before the events of the miniseries, our story focuses on familiar characters including Cylon Number One, known as Cavil (Dean Stockwell), Resistance Leader Sam T. Anders (Michael Trucco) and Chief Galen Tyrol (Aaron Douglas). In the beginning, the Cylons had a plan, but it didn't account for one thing: survivors. During the chaotic aftermath of the destruction, two powerful Cylon agents struggle with plots and priorities on the human ships that got away, and among the resistance fighters who were left behind."
