Cheech Marin became famous as perhaps the most famous comedic stoner duo in history – Cheech & Chong. IGN had the chance to speak to Marin today at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, where he was promoting his new Lifetime movie, The Miracle of Dommatina, in which he plays a priest. But don't let the fact that Marin is playing a Man of God in a Lifetime project fool you – he still hasn't forgotten his roots. In fact, while on stage, he revealed that he and Tommy Chong were mulling over a new project that he hoped to begin soon, joking, "Time's a' wasting!"

Later in the day, I asked Marin if he could clarify what sort of new project he was speaking of, and he told me, "We'd like to go out and do some live dates. It would be fun." Of course if Cheech & Chong reunite, fans will quickly wonder if a new movie might result. When I asked if that was a possibility, Marin replied with a smile, "Well, you never know!"

Marin explained that he and Chong have recently, "been writing and seeing what we can remember." He noted that when it came to reintroducing their alter egos to a modern audience, "I think they'll be perceived pretty well, because most of the bits we did in our stage show were really classic bits. They didn't have any time period associated with them."

Referencing Marin's Lifetime movie, I noted that the last time audiences saw him playing a priest was in the midst of the purposely over-the-top violence in the fake trailer for Machete, which Robert Rodriguez created for Grindhouse. At the time, Rodriguez said he would love to make Machete into an actual film, perhaps as a straight-to-DVD project. If that project comes to fruition, Rodriguez should have no trouble getting frequent collaborator Marin back, as the actor told me, "I would love for him to do that! I'm just waiting for him to call me. Call me Robert! Let's do it, man!"

I thought those two got into a serious fight. Didn't Chong call Cheech a sellout or something? It would be cool if they got back together.
