This is not an official O&A event, but its something I wanted to post here. http://www.canoe4kids.com
On Saturday, August 9th 2008, the Massapequa Fire Department will be hosting the 14th Annual Emergency Services Canoe Challenge. The race consists of a two mile course to the Great South Bay, beginning and ending in John Burns Park in Massapequa. If you have the courage to compete, if you have the desire to dig deep, if you can paddle through the pain with some of the bravest, boldest, finest and fiercest, you will receive a complementary race day tee shirt and free refreshments after the race – and have a great time doing it!
This year, we are raising funds for the families of Kyle Davey, a 1 year old Massapequa boy battling Cystic Fibrosis, and Matthew Bove’ a 3 year old Huntington boy fighting Hepatoblastoma.
Matthew Has a website on www.carepage.com once you register (it’s free), his site is godblessmatthew. You can then read his story from the first day of his liver operation in Boston Hospital to date.
One of the recipients is the child of a good friend of mine. Its a situation that I wouldnt wish on anyone to deal with. I am going to be speaking with Anthony & Jill about making an appearance and canoeing. Should anyone want to participate in the race or care to make a donation to the foundation, please reach out to me at keiththecop@aol.com.
I thank everyone in advance for their possible support.
