have they ever mentioned that it's a sat. radio service in the god damned commercials? I think I took it for granted that they did, and then I listened real close.
Not ONE thing about it being radio. Just that they "have" baseball and different music. Could be a phone service. Could be a television thing. Internet provider? WHO KNOWS.
Meanwhile, stupid Sirius' advertising campaign is the "best radio on radio." They show *GASP* radios in their campaigns.
This thread sucks and I don't know if it had a point except for me to bitch about how bad XM sucks at selling their own product...but thanks.

Would have been nice if you mentioned Wackbag in your post.

I don't know about not specifically laying out that it's satellite radio being the problem. But I agree that XM has marketed itself horribly and now it seems that no one at XM gives a flying fuck about anything anymore.

I've actually been seeing alot of xm ad's lately.
satellite radio is one of those things where you have to actually hear it in a car or something to realize how great it is, i got my subscription because of o&a but there's lots of great channels on it. Whenever friends ride in my car they end up loving how xm is and ask questions on how much it costs, etc.
Now that cars are coming equipped with the trial service more people will subscribe, thats how my brother got his. My other brother got sirius that way but im trying to bring him over to xm.

But that isn't happening though, the cancellations are huge
XM has the larger % of the cars every quarter but the returns negate it

the point is though; The don't mention that in the ads.
It just says "XM" in the commercials. Or at least the ones I have seen.

You also have to mention that the satellite car kits that XM sells look like cheap pieces of shit. They look like something that you would have made in electronics class in high school. I have one of the old Roady 2's and it looks WAY nicer than the new shit that they sell.

Yea, but you'd be a fool to buy one of those things now. My old Roady2 serves its purpose for commuting. I use my Inno for when I exercise and mow the lawn.

Look at how nasty the companies are against their competition on tv commercials for TV service providers and cell phones. Why didn't XM run negative ads about Howard Stern 2 years ago? He's such an easy target, he's boring, out-of-touch, delusional. He lies all the time, call him out on some of them. Point out that he only broadcast maybe 150 days a year, showcase how much better O&A are at putting on an entertaining show. It's just a very obvious opportunity that is now lost. Mel Karmizan is going to fire everyone at XM the day he's brought to power, it's not like playing nice did the people at XM any good

I actually like their ad scheme a lot, but I see Sirius ads probably 10x more than XM. This could be because I watch a lot more basketball and football than baseball and hockey, but I watch a lot of golf too, which they should be all over. It's hard to know, but if I didn't know anything about sattelite radio, I'm not sure I'd think Sirius had any competition at all.

Anti-Howard ads wouldn't do anything.
Anybody that would buy Sirius for Howard wouldn't change their mind because of a negative XM ad & all it would do would make XM look bush league & petty that they didn't get him
Why remind people the most famous name in radio is not on their platform?

They wouldn't have needed to mention Howie, just make it clear that they have their own better raunchy talk show, but they instead crowed about a channel nobody listens to (coughoprahcough).

$77 for 1 yr still going 7/17/08. Called 800-682-4114 told them I wanted to cancel since $12 was too much a month. I had the family plan and it would cost me $142.45 for my sub & $83.88 for my girls. The total came to$226.33. Didn't discuss plans with the 1st CS rep and was transfered to cancellations. Cancellations guy asked again why? I replied too expensive. He said what if he could do 50% off. I asked how much that was for a year = $77 for the one sub. I didn't need a code or mailer - he was upfront and said it was the best they were offering and they wanted to keep my business. So $77 + 83.88 for the second sub for a total of $160.88 for a 1 year sub. That is a savings of $65. Didn't take but 1 minute. Make sure you talk to a US citizen, not one of those XM Customer Service Savages.
