Registered sex offender in Mastic Beach arrested

BY BILL MASON | bill.mason@newsday.com 10:59 PM EDT, July 15, 2008 A registered sex offender from Wyoming (http://www.newsday.com/topic/us/wyoming-PLGEO100105200000000.topic) was arrested Wednesday for failing to notify authorities that he had moved to Mastic Beach, police said.

Rick Leroy Williams, 23, who is originally from Lander, Wyo., was charged with failure to register as a sex offender, a Class E felony, Suffolk police said. He moved to Long Island (http://www.newsday.com/topic/travel/long-island-PLTRA000031.topic) after meeting a local woman on an Internet dating site, police said.

Williams, who was convicted in 2006 of "immoral and indecent acts" has been living in a home somewhere in Mastic Beach for several weeks, police said.

Det. Sgt. Michael Pirone of the Suffolk Special Victims Section said, "We're declining to release the exact address where he was living. We're citing an ongoing investigation."

Under New York (http://www.newsday.com/topic/us/new-york-PLGEO100100800000000.topic) State corrections law, a registered sex offender from another state must notify the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services within 10 days of establishing residency in the state.

Williams was to be arraigned today in First District Court, Central Islip (http://www.newsday.com/topic/us/new-york/suffolk-county-%28new-york%29/islip/central-islip-PLGEO1001001023806750NY.topic)
