Jackson arrested after police chase

Buzz Up PrintFormer UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was arrested and held on $25,000 bail following a traffic accident Tuesday afternoon in Costa Mesa, Calif.

According to Costa Mesa police Lt. Paul Dondero, an officer observed the 30-year old Jackson driving with a flat tire on his 2008 Ford F-350 pickup truck and talking on his cell phone (which recently became illegal while driving in Calif.) and attempted to pull him over.

Dondero said Jackson, a resident of Irvine, Calif., ignored the officer and continued driving with the officer in pursuit.

Police had received a report of a vehicle involved in a collision on the 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa, which struck other vehicles and fled the scene, Dondero said.

The chase continued with the vehicle weaving in and out of traffic, including at one point driving on the wrong side of the road and even on a sidewalk, scaring pedestrians.

Dondero said Jackson hit two cars at 19th Street and Newport Boulevard at 1:13 p.m., but failed to stop. He said a Costa Mesa police officer saw the truck near 17th Street and attempted to pull it over.

Jackson fled and hit at least one more car before the five-minute chase ended with his arrest, the lieutenant said.

The car continued to Newport Beach, where the tire blew out and came off the rim and he was taken into the Orange County Central jail. The fighter was charged with hit-and-run driving, felony evading and reckless driving.

UFC president Dana White flew to Orange County upon learning of the arrest and said he was driving to the county jail to post bail for Jackson.

The story was initially reported by the website TMZ.com, which has photos of Jackson lying face down on the street behind his truck, a 2008 Ford F-350 turbo diesel, as a police officer has his gun drawn and is pointing it at him.

Jackson won the UFC light heavyweight title by knocking out Chuck Liddell at UFC 71 on May 26, 2007. After a successful defense against Dan Henderson on Sept. 5, Jackson lost the belt to Forrest Griffin on a controversial decision at UFC 86 on July 5 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Jackson’s manager/trainer, Juanito Ibarra, did not immediately return phone calls.

"I know Rampage in and out of the ring. He is a great showman in the ring and a smart level-leaded businessman outside of it. I am shocked over this. It's really out of character for him. I don't know all the details on what happened, but I just hope everyone involved is ok."

Chuck Liddell to Rampage's defense. he also said he thinks something else is at work and not to jump to conclusions.

There has to be something else going on here, it is just strange that he would go nuts like this (yes I know his nickname is Rampage) but he seems pretty level headed for the most part, that he wouldn't do something that put innocent people in danger.

I could have sworn this was posted yesterday (when it happend) and I posted in *that* topic.

Anyway, I have to laugh at the pure arrogance of Jackson - to put his picture on the side of his truck like that.

Anyway, Dana has posted bail - but this latest episode will take Jesse Taylor off the hook a bit. :)

I would be willing to bet that Toyo Tires put that paint job on the truck and probably bought the truck for Jackson as part of his sponsorship

Oh, well - if its for a free truck, then . . .

Wonder what drugs (and alcohol) "Rampage" was on?

Rampage could face murder/manslaughter (http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/...6813&zoneid=13)
The legal woes of former Ultimate Fighting Championship title holder, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson may have just taken a turn for the worse as a Huntington Beach woman who was involved in the hit and run crash with the fighter has miscarried her baby according to a report from the Daily Pilot newspaper.

According to the report on the newspaper’s website, Holly Griggs, 38, was driving her 2007 Cadillac Escalade in the left lane of the southbound 55 Freeway on July 15 when the former UFC champion sideswiped her as he was driving along the median.

Following the incident and further actions during the chase with Jackson, he was arrested and charged, but then released on $25,000 bail before being picked up again just days later and admitted to a mental health facility for treatment.

Prosecutors from the area have yet to file any further charges against the fighter at this time and could not comment to the Daily Pilot on any charges that would stem from Griggs’ miscarriage.

While Griggs has made no official statement, her fiancé and father to the baby, Bill Krebs spoke to reporters and while the couple have retained legal counsel they have yet to officially file any action against Jackson.

“No amount of money will bring back my son,” said Krebs to reporters following the incident.

Jackson, nor anyone close to the fighter, has yet to go on record with an official statement following the situation with the Griggs’ family.

Just give me ten minutes alone in a room with that son of a bitch."
