I just got back from my local theater that showed Dark Knight on all 15 screens at Midnight and sold out every show.

This is by far one of the best movies ever. Non stop and action packed and quite humorous.

If you have seen the movie then post your thoughts here. Please do not post spoilers and ruin it for the people who have not seen it.

It was almost perfect. There were a few times where there was a jump cut to move the scenes along, because the movie needed to be edited down to an already long 2 1/2 hours.

I hope there's a director's cut with an extra 15 mins to smooth some scene to scene transition.

And that shit dick Heath Ledger is fucking brilliant. There hasn't been that sort of act; bring a crazed character to life since early Jack Nicholson. I had my laughs when he died, but now I wish he was alive to make more movies.

i've seen it twice and left both times feeling breathless. it is one of those movies that goes beyond the genre. the characters weren't just characters, but representations of ideas that you'll think about long after the movie is over. my buddy called me earlier today and asked me if i wanted to see it again but i told him we'll go again later this week. it's like something special you don't want to overdo and cheapen the experience.

and yes, the pencil trick will shock you. it got the same startled response from both audiences i've seen it with.

great great movie. i am NOT a movie person but that 2 and a half hours flew by. no dead spots, nothing that i felt was drawn out and unnecessary. heath ledger was insanely good, so many moments that i won't mention here to honor the no spoiler, but the disappearing pencil trick was mentioned and that was beyond brilliant.

I saw it again in IMAX over the weekend and that experience can't be beat. the switching of aspect ratios makes you think it's a comic book.

There will never be a best movie ever, but this movie gets put into the discussion, and that's remarkable.

Or you could discuss it here:

http://www.wackbag.com/showthread.php?t=49167

or here:

http://www.wackbag.com/showthread.php?t=93962

and for those of you who fear meatspin links, here's my douchy review:

The Dark Knight is an amazing action packed ride that goes beyond the typical action film and draws you into the characters and story. Heath Ledger really is as good as everyone is saying. Overall a great film and a good story. I have only two criticisms of the film (no spoilers).

First, there are points in the film where Batman has a moral dilemma whether to kill the Joker. It's a moral equivalence arguement, i.e. if I kill the Joker I'm no better than him. Killing a murdering psychopath is not murder -it's justice, regardless of the circumstance.

Second Harvey Dent, the "white knight" district attorney who is a hero for going after the bad guys, has his own moral dilemma whether to take justice into his own hands. The arguement Batman (and others) use is that if Dent resorts to vigilantism, it will undo all his good work AND RESULT IN EVERYONE HE'S CONVICTED BEING SET FREE. It's an incredibly stupid arguement and reeks of political correctness (e.g. Don Imus entertains for years and raises millions of dollars for kids with cancer, but one joke of poor taste got him fired). It's just not how the law works and that arguement was very sophmoric and downright stupid.

Those two criticisms aside it's an amazing film and I was happy to see that the films creators wanted to interject some philosophy, even if they didn't always hit the mark (there were other philosophical arguements that I felt were closer to the truth).

So... go see it. Heath Ledger is amazing. Oscar performance.

Just got back from seeing on IMAX. The scenes shot that way are fantastic and using the IMAX film are needed. Nolan is a genius. He should get a best director award. He took a movie people wanted to see and made one that lived up to the hype.

Ledger is flat-out better than the one that appeared in The Killing Joke. His stories made you realize you were looking at a truly insane man, not one who hears voices, but one who looks at society and the norms in 180 degrees from their true setting.

The theatre was stone silent for the entire movie, not one golfer on a phone, and no kids crying. Never have I seen that.

I have no complaints with The Dark Knight. It's a great movie. I didn't feel the dual ending was out of place, I didn't think it was too long, I didn't mind Clint Batman and I loved Heath Ledger as The Joker.

I'm not saying anything new, I'm just saying any haters can go shit in their hats.

It's my new favorite super hero movie and Ledgers portrayal of The Joker transcends being merely a comic book villain.

Holy mother of fuck, was that a great movie. It doesn't open here in the UK until Friday, but my local movie theatre had a special preview tonight. Heather Ledger: legendary performance. Can't say enough about how amazing he is in this. Michael Caine: great. Christian Bale: great (Jimmy's wrong about the voice - sorry, but it's necessary for a movie that's as realistic and believable as you can get within the superhero genre). The direction and visuals were great, too.

The arguement Batman (and others) use is that if Dent resorts to vigilantism, it will undo all his good work AND RESULT IN EVERYONE HE'S CONVICTED BEING SET FREE. It's an incredibly stupid arguement and reeks of political correctness.

Actually, I think that that was a very smart and accurate plot point: it's not a PC thing at all, but a realization that if he takes matters into his own hands, and gets found out, every criminal that he's prosecuted since his career as DA started will be filing appeals on the basis that it's now emerged that the prosecuting attorney is a crook. This actually does happen in real life when prosecutors get caught doing something illegal: it calls into question every piece of evidence that they've handled, and whether they can be trusted to have be honest behind the scenes in conducting prosecutions.

Um he didnt sound anything like that in Patriot or Brokeback Mountain infact in that he just mumbled his way thru the role and got a Oscar Nom "go figure". No i havent seen him do an American Accent in any of his other movies cause quite frankly most of his movies were shit. Overrated movie. Great performance by Heath Ledger. Christian Bale sleepwalked through the whole thing. His goofy voice took me out of the movie every time Batman opened his mouth. Ledger completely overshadowed Bale. That homely looking broad hardly fit the bill as the love interest for a man the caliber of Bruce Wayne. The hype about the movie is based on the IMAX special effects and Ledger's performance. The director was heavy handed with the constant closeup shots and millions of quick cuts that were just goddam annoying. The opening 6 minutes were the highpoint of the entire film.

Agreed! Why do so many movies lately have all the close up face shots. It annoys the hell out of me. Also Maggie G. is fugly. Finally the action scenes were hard to make out blurry, dark, and fast camera sweeps.

Ledger was the only believable thing in the movie. The commissioner seemed like a joke.

Overrated movie.

Riiiight.....

A movie which sets box office records, is currently rated #1 on IMDB with over 100,000 votes, 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critical acclaim up the wazoo... is overrated.

Mmm hmm...

Overrated is such a passive agressive argument. Have some gumption and say you didn't like the movie. To state that's it's overrated is only a way for you to engage the majority of people who thought it was a wonderful movie and get people all riled up. You can hate a movie, it doesn't make you less of a person. Stating it's overrated is troll-like behavior.

I won't give you a bloody tampon, because you're currently not hating on O&A.

The movie was excellent. The box office records, RT's 95% and all the acclaim I can see, but #1 on IMDB does give a ton of fuel to the "too cool for the room" idiots about it being overrated.

In fact having it RATED #1 is definitive proof it is over rated.

How the fuck can a movie that has been out a week be the best movie ever? That # 1 just proves that people are over hyping the damn thing. Better than Godfather 2? Heat? Goodfellas? Apocalypse Now? No fucking way. Was it a real good movie…yup. Great…maybe. But the best movie ever…no, and that’s where the over rated comes in.

I’m with you here, but don’t give the haters fuel for a retort but saying the fact that it’s rated as the best movie ever is proof that it’s not over rated.

…just sayin’ :action-sm

All right, perhaps #1 after a week is a bit crazy, but I can honestly say this movie is in the argument for best movie ever. You can never say one movie is the best ever, it's an ever changing upper eschelon. But I think it can be placed in the argument without being laughed out of the room, and that's saying something.

But you need some time before a movie can become a great movie.

I remember right after seeing Independence Day, I thought that it was the greatest movie ever. But after a few days I felt different. Now I think it’s just a nice campy action movie. I remember after seeing The Matrix in the theater I thought it was a cool looking jumbled mess, but after seeing it again later I really loved it. You need time to really think about what you saw and let the spectacle die down. You need to be objective about it. Then you can make an opinion.

If you’re already calling The Dark Knight one of the greatest, you’re jumping the gun. It might end up there, but it really can't be there yet. I think that is the backlash people are talking about. The hater’s will still hate, that’s what they are and why they suck.

Truth be told, I actually like the movie more almost a week after seeing it then I did right after it was over. But I need to see it again (and will when the DVD comes out) to make more of an honest opinion.

Give it some time and remember this…it’s just a movie.

It's undoubtedly the best superhero/comic book movie. The individual performances all were very well played.

The movie had to dip, not too much though, into a bit of the old cliches. It wasn't overkill though. I never found myself saying "Alright, I get it..."

Ledger, god damn...I can only hope, and I don't want to come across as selfish here, that he somehow managed to make it onto the commentary for the DVD. Insight into his research on the role is the only thing I care about right now.
