I hear it's decent, but haven't heard anything that convinces me it's a better choice than a Corolla, Civic, or even an Elantra...
I've taken a hard look at all the small cars lately due to gas prices and was looking at the Fusion specs and am really annoyed that fucking ABS brakes are an option, not standard equipment. It's 2008. WTF?!?

Almost bought one. I like it. I'm sure there are "experts" here who will tell you what pieces of shit all Fords are.
I didn't buy one because I got 0% financing on the Taurus and couldn't pass up the minimal price difference through my companies x plan. Actually lower monthly payment on the Taurus than the Fusion would have been based on 0% finance for Taurus and not Fusion.
I liked the Fusion though. surprisingly roomy, drove nice and has gotten good reviews.
And I'll save the Ford bashers some time...

Ford has been improving their quality and durability the fastest of all the non-Japanese car companies. A new ford might be a wise choice.

Haven't seen many in my shop yet so it's hard to tell.
I do know that my wife has an 05 Elantra with 53k on it and no problems yet.
The son has our old Sentra with 156k on it and also no major failures.
As much as I'd love to say but an American car, the imports hold up very well.

I've driven it as a rental a couple of times this year. Very Accord-like, I mean that as a compliment, though it feels like a slightly older version. Nice room, comfortable seats. I liked the Sync feature a lot.
I've owned a Ford before that I beat the hell out of an put over 170K miles on it. I actually liked the Fusion enough that I would seriously consider it i I were currently in the market for that type of car.

eh, its a ford, keep it till it starts to cost you money, it seems to me that you really should expect about 100k out of an american car, and that's it if it starts to fuck up early just make sure to trade it in when the warente runs out

JD Power has been calling Ford vastly improved.
DETROIT -(Dow Jones)- Toyota Motor Corp.'s (TM) Lexus luxury brand once again stands alone atop an influential ranking on vehicle durability, marking Japan's continued domination over Detroit in a critical area weighed by American car buyers.
J.D. Power and Associates on Thursday released its annual Vehicle Dependability Study, which tracks quality over the first three years of ownership of a vehicle.
Seven of the 14 brands with above-average rankings are owned by Japanese auto makers. Five domestic names, including Ford Motor Co.'s (F) vastly improved Ford brand, scored better than average, along with two European brands.
General Motors Corp.'s (GM) premium Buick brand fell to sixth place from the first-place ranking it shared last year with Lexus, when it became the first brand in a dozen years to split the title with Lexus.
In awards given to vehicles in each segment, Toyota easily bested its competitors: 11 of 20 individual awards went to Toyota or Lexus nameplates.
Even as foreign brands overall beat Detroit-made cars and trucks, the Big Three's efforts to improve vehicle quality continued to pay off, with a number of important domestic players showing marked improvement.
"The Japanese are slightly more dominant then they have been in the past," said David Sargent, J. D. Power's vice president of automotive research. "But there are some very good domestic brands out there - it's not a monopoly."
The efforts to improve quality are taking on even greater significance as U.S. auto sales have fallen to their lowest levels in 15 years amid depressed consumer confidence and high fuel prices. Detroit's auto makers have suffered in particular owing to their heavy reliance on high-priced, gas-guzzling trucks and sport-utility vehicles.
Time and again, customers have shown dependability sways their car-buying decision more than anything, from fuel economy to looks, Sargent said.
The three-year mark is important because typically that is when vehicle owners begin considering a new vehicle.
"There's a very profound relationship around how someone feels about the dependability of their current vehicle and the likelihood they will purchase another vehicle from the same brand," he said.
Three of the four highest-volume domestic brands - Ford and Chrysler LLC's ( C.XX) Chrysler and Dodge - improved in the rankings. GM's Chevrolet fell.
A number of smaller names also improved, as overall scores jumped 5% from last year. GM's Saab brand posted the biggest jump, though it still rates well below average. Behind Lexus were Ford's Mercury brand, GM's Cadillac, Toyota and Honda Motor Co.'s (HMC) Acura luxury division.

I think that ford has improved their image a little bit recently which is no surprise.
I think I remember reading an article that CEO basically called them out when he started there by saying that he wouldn't drive a Ford until their quality was on par with Lexus and some of the other luxury brands.

At least they circled the problem
wacka-wacka
My fiance has a 2003 Focus that has been nothing but a bag of problems since it left the lot in 2003.
I on the other hand have a 2001 Hyundai Elantra I bought new the Wednesday after Dale Earnhardt died in 2001 with 22 miles on it.
It now has 171k+ miles on it to date, the only thing replaced besides tires, brakes and fan-belt is the radiator (knock on wood)

Only fords I ever had was a Merc Topaz (tempo) that I absolutely destroyed after 2 engines, and my 67 ford F-100 pickup with a 360.
I bet both are steel wool or water heaters.

I have to admit, the durability makes me nervous. I want this thing to last for many years, but not look and drive like shit in 3.
Before I started looking around, I swore I was going buy an import, but would like to give a domestic a shit, IF it is up to the challenge.

Honda, Toyota > Ford.
You'll get better resale value on a Honda, or Toyota.

Good, who needs anti-lock brakes anyway? I hate the fucking things and avoid them if I can. That and traction control, it's all crap. I can stop a car much faster using threshold braking than any abs system can. That and the fact it activates when you go over a bump while coming to a stop for no reason and almost makes you crash into the car in front of you.

Was thinking of you when Opie called someone a douche....the nozzle variety
I've owned an Escort and a Focus, and put tons of miles on both. I had a Ranger pickup, too, but the ex-wife took it. Cunt.
Kept the oil changed, and hardly ever had a bit of trouble with them. I would buy another Ford in a heartbeat.

Seems to be under everyone's radar right now, but seems to be a great car for a great price.
