We decided to have an elective sonogram today. The place we went to has state of the art equiptment and does 3D and 4D(movement) pictures and video. They put all of the pictures on a CD and put the entire session on DVD. Its really nice. I thought this would be a great keepsake for my daughter someday.

Imagine my surprise when the tech put the ultrasound wand on my wife's belly and the first image to appear is a full fleged, unmistakable set of cock-n-balls.

We were told 5 weeks ago that the baby was a girl at the 20 week sonogram at our doctors office. When that tech announced it was a girl, I asked her "Are you certain?" She said, "Yes." I asked, "What percent are you sure?" She said, "About 99.9% sure its a girl." I asked, "Would you bet the farm on it?" She said, "I would bet the farm on it." That was good enough for me. We let every one know its a girl. I even announced it here on this board. Friends and family have been buying little pink outfits and shoes. One friend of ours had given us 5 totes full of baby girl clothes, some of which were brand new with tags, that she aquired at a garage sale. Next week we were going to buy some pink paint to start on the nursery. On the way to the sonogram appointment, we were going to stop at a Party Store to pick up some stuff for the baby shower. In the interest of time and not wanting to be rushed or be late, we decided to wait until after the appointment. Good thing we did.

So now we are having a boy. Its a little unsettling after thinking we were having a girl for so long. We're both happy about it, but it is a little sad to have to put away all of those clothes and change all of our plans. Its better to find out now than in the delivery room though. As far as the pictures and video....outstanding. You can see every detail. Its got my nose and chin and my wifes mouth. Once again, worth every penny.

I have a related experiance with ultra sound. When my wife was pregnant with our son, at first we didn't want to know if we were having a boy or a girl. Then around week 31 it was starting to eat at us. So we asked our doctor for another one. Since she was deemed high risk because of my dwarfism (50/50 each prenancy the baby could have it) he green-lighted it. During the ultra sound they found his nuts to confirm he was a boy. Then they did something really cool. They digitally measured his limbs and the diameter of his head to see where they were in the development phase. Now if he had been a dwarf, the limbs would have been several weeks behind, and the head would have been a few weeks ahead. He was calculated to be 31 weeks, 5 days old. When they measured everything, his limbs and head came out to be 31 weeks, 5 days where they should be. Top three of my happiest days.
