Looks like for under $500 you can convert a bicycle to electric. 20-30 mile range, typically 20 mph.

Gay?
Suicidal?
Waste of a perfectly good bike?
What say you?

I've been thinking about it, don't feel like going all out for a motorcycle since you still need a car for bad weather.

Go for it.

I have a Tidalforce Wavecrest M750 that I ride in the local state parks (don't like dealing with vehicles on the road) and it's a beast (70lbs) but fun to ride.

I wouldn't want to be going fifty MPH on a bicycle without protective gear.

There's this wacky dude in my town who rides a conversion that does 40 - 45 for 12 miles and 20 - 25 for almost 20 miles. Fun looking, and it can spin the front mountain bike tread tire which is pretty badass. I'd say go for it and have some fun, just don't compare it to a motorcycle. :icon_wink

That's exactly what I was thinking. I dumped a bike (motorcycle) doing 35 - 40, and I'd have been way more fucked up had I not had on an armored jacket and full-face helmet. A bicycle helmet and some kneepads aren't going to do shit for you at 50. Road rash is road rash no matter what you're riding - it's only how fast you're going that matters (unless you get stuck under your 500lb bike lol).

Yeah, pretty gay. I work in a bicycle shop and we always laugh when these things come in. If you're really old, fine... do whatcha gotta do.

55 mph is the fastest I've gone on a bike.... it's a nice little rush. My dad has hit 67. Someday I'll match my old man.

We shouldn't have to be. I live in an area with lots of hills and windy roads. Every weekend the Lance Armstrong wannabes in their faggoty spandex have the nerve to exercise their right to the roads. You come around a corner going 60 or so and all of the sudden there are like 10 of them taking up half the road. They get pretty uppity if you honk at them. It surprises me that more don't get splattered by rednecks in huge pickups. Get a motorcycle for fuck's sake. A girl might actually want to fuck you.

Well I ordered a 1kw motor / controller (~1.5 hp) which will give me 35 mph top speed on flat road with out pedal assistance (theoretically). That should allow me to get to work and back with out slowing down traffic.

I'm so fucking sick of cars. 1 week after getting $600 worth of work done on my car (which was a rip off) it's having new problems. The bike + batteries + motor /controller will cost me $600. It's ridiculous how much cars drain your wallet.

I'll still keep it for getting to my workshop though.

Fastest electric motorcycle in the world. In this clip it does 0-60 in 1 second and the owner who wasn't wearing a helmet spills it. He doesn't die though.

If you're wanting to spend money on converting a bike that will only go 20mph and only travel 40 miles then buy a scooter for $1,500 that will at least go 40mph and have like 80-100mpg.

It would be very dangerous for you to be on the roads on sometime that can't, at the very least, travel the speed limit on public roads.

You see bicyclists being hit all of the time because of morons ignoring them on the road and trying to zip by them and run them off of the road.

It wouldn't be any different than you riding around on a garage project that can't even outrun a bicycle.
