And you're going to be closer to it than I am. I'm only worried about tornadoes.
anyone notice how it's been creeping more and more towards a Texas trajectory... where all the katrina people ended up getting moved to? lol. Those fuckers are cursed!

Baton Rouge is looking to get fucked.
I may be seeing 100mph winds easy. With gusts a good bit higher. Thankfully it'll be during the daytime. It would completely freak me out if I had this happening at night.
This is looking to be as bad as Katrina was. At least for my area.
New Iberia...which I could have known ya better. You're just fucked.

Whoever stays in New Orleans after the whole Katrina thing is just ignorant. I bet ALOT more people will be leaving this time around.
Hopefully it won't be as bad as Katrina. What the hell is going on with the weather down there? It seems that whole florida/alabama area is hit regularly with a storm. How do those people live there?! Is a Hurricane like a thunderstorm to them?
My friend lives in Texas, so I really hope that he's safe. D:
Goodluck and be safe to anyone down there!

For the most part they are leaving but there are always going to be some who refuse to leave.

So, my aunt and my grandma were supposed to come up, now they have chosen not to.
The people that stay think they know something that the rest of us dont. We have talked to them and my aunt thinks they will be okay. Even my sister who works for the Louisiana Office of Emergency Preparedness can't convince them.
Now because of Contraflow, we can't go get them.

The drive that would have taken about 1.5 hours on friday will probably take 4-6 hours today.

most of my family is in the metairie/kenner area and they're gone. there is a certain mentality in louisiana that some people have (white and black) that leads them to believe some magical hand is going to cover them for the storm and they're going to be just fine. i've never understood it.
this storm is supposed to be MUCH WIDER and stronger than katrina was, and it's still growing. hopefully the surges won't be too much for the newly renovated levees and pumping systmes to handle. :icon_eek:

The hatches are all battened down and I treated myself to bottle of Cask 16.
Hopefully power will hold, or at the very least not go out for 7 days like it did with Katrina or 6 like it did with Andrew.
Overall they are saying 4-9 inches of rain and 50 mph winds with gusts in the 70's here so i dont think im going to need to YMB
If anything good happens I will post pics.

Oman. I am glad your grandma and auntie got out, mister awful. But *you're* not staying there, are you? Eee. I hope you're safe and all that. Lock yourself in a garage or something and wear a bike helmet.
And yea. I shouldn't say people who stay are all ignorant. Alot of them also can not afford to leave the area. Its a shame when its those circumstances.
This will sound morbid, but could people affected by Gustav post before and after photos?

You can use Google streetview if you want for the pre...
I doubt it'll be as massive around here as Katrina was.

Hopefully my old man is getting some much needed rain over in Westville, FL. Hard to tell because the hurricane maps don't go that far east. Can't call either because during hurricane times, the cell phone towers are turned off for FEMA use.

websites are calling this 'only' a cat 3 storm.. never heard of it being 5. Doesn't seem to have the size and pressure drop that katrina did.
Doesn't matter at this point. The punch is just as hard, it's just the size of the fist.
Good luck.

You people are tough. I'd never have the guts to sit and stay in a hurricane area like that.
Also is that really unlucky lottery? He's driving around in a storm. *somethings* going to hit you, and a tree could be one of them.

Actually this turned out to be a real piss storm. Knocked out a lot of utilities and knocked some places on their asses but it looks like infrastructure is still mostly intact.
Category 1 and 2 hitting where it didn't worry me. When some people thought it would be a 4 or a 5 I was real tense.
