The fourth quarter has already ripped into our wallets with must-have game and Blu-ray releases like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Dead Space, Fracture, the NHL and NBA games, Poltergeist, Sleeping Beauty, and the list goes on.

Despite all these great games and movies, next week is when your wallet will want to break free from your pants and hide under the couch. Not once this year has so many irresistible shiny discs become available on or around the same day.

The big question is, what are you going to do about it? Unless your wallet is fat with cash, decisions will have to be made. What if you just want the real "biggies?" What will that cost? Let's break it down platform by platform, then add up the damages.

Playstation 3
At long last Sackboy will break away from a beta and infiltrate homes across the globe. LittleBigPlanet is poised to be a huge seller for Sony and capture the non-shooter audience Resistance 2 is aimed squarely at appeasing. Also arriving on PS3 are Far Cry 2, BioShock, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon and Spider-Man: Web of Shadows.

Xbox 360
Sony's exclusive will go mano-e-mano with the long-awaited arrival of Microsoft's exclusive, Fable 2. Both games will require massive amounts of gameplay time to get the most out of, so it will be interesting to see how devoted multi-platform gamers manage their time. Other big Xbox 360 releases include Far Cry 2, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon and Spider-Man: Web of Shadows.

Wii
Wii has a big exclusive heading to stores next week as well though to be frank it pales in comparison to Microsoft and Sony's. Wii Music will certainly fly off shelves to the casual gaming audience despite being hammered by critics in previews, us included. Other Wii notables include Monopoly Here and Now: The World Edition, Carnival Games: Mini Golf, The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, Spider-Man: Web of Shadows and High School Musical 3.

Blu-ray Disc
Bond. James Bond. At long last six of the classic Bond films will triumphantly arrive on Blu-ray with re-mastered transfers and high-def extras, and be complimented with a new three-disc version of Casino Royale. Other biggies include Diary of the Dead, Halloween, The Incredible Hulk, The Strangers and Sweeney Todd.

Now the fun part. Assuming you'd want to buy all or even most of these titles and taking into consideration the non-exclusives, this is how much green (or plastic) would need to be extracted from your wallet.

LittleBigPlanet: $59.99
Far Cry 2: $59.99
BioShock: $59.99
Fable 2: $59.99
Midnight Club Los Angeles: $59.99
Carnival Games: Mini-Golf: $39.99
Wii Music: $49.99
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows: $49.99
High School Musical 3: $49.99
Monopoly Here and Now: The World Edition: $39.99
The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon: $49.99
Casino Royale Collector's Edition: $26.95
Halloween: $34.95
James Bond Vol 1: $58.95
James Bond Vol 2: $58.95
Sweeney Todd: $27.95
The Incredible Hulk: $25.95
The Strangers: $27.95

And the grand total is… $841.54.

Even if you wanted to get the highest profile best releases on each platform:

LittleBigPlanet: $59.99
Far Cry 2: $59.99
BioShock: $59.99
Fable 2: $59.99
Wii Music: $49.99
James Bond Vol 1: $58.95
James Bond Vol 2: $58.95
The Incredible Hulk: $25.95

… you would still need to shell out $433.80. In this economy, that's a lot of coin.

Your wallet is afraid. Very afraid. But in the end, we'll all be very happy come this time next week. Very happy.

Ok everyone. Read that again.

Look at what is being released for PS3. Then Look at what is being released for 360. Then look at what is being released for Wii.

Now, add Fallout to the Ps3 and the 360 list. And read what is being released for the Wii.

Now, ask yourself, WHY is the Wii outselling both PS3 and 360s?!??!?

The Wii is no different than the last two Nintendo systems and the primary reason why I no longer by Nintendo consoles: you can count the number of must play games on one hand. Fuck console sales, I'm interested to see overall game sales, which of course is a lot more nebulous and harder to track. But TO DATE I have seen exactly ONE title that I would actually buy, and that's Smash Brothers. The only and I mean ONLY other games that are even remotely interesting to me are multiplatform titles and the Xbox/PS iterations are usually leaps and bounds better. Case in point: Force Unleashed. The system is marketed for children, and that's literally the only thing it excels at. Which is fine, but I'm not a child.

I have to pick up Fable 2 and Far Cry 2. Two long, open world games. I'm going to have no life (well, even less of a life).

I actually own Nintendo's last two consoles. Got them both WAY after they were defunct. (Actually got the 64 a few months ago.) Because there are a handful of good games on them. I'll do the same with the Wii EVENTUALLY if they can release a good game without Mario, Link, or Samus in it.

The way it looks now 1/2 the games that come out now for PS3/360 are decent to great. (7/10-10/10 as far as overall ratings go) The Wii keeps pumping sub par games and out sells at a scary rate.

I just dont get it.

1.) It's cheaper. Or, was, at least, before Microsoft's recent price drop.

2.) It's basically a kid's toy, which parents buy for their (young) children.

If you're a serious gamer, you choose the 360 or PS3.

NO IF YOU'RE A SERIOUS GAMER YOU GET A PC![/angry PC gamer]

Yeah, I know. But if you're serious about *console* gaming, you get the 360 or PS3.

I'm going to be getting most of those games, but I'm going to stagger them out a bit. Next week, I pick up Dead Space (released this week, to solid reviews) and Spider-Man. Week after that, I'll get Little Big Planet & Fallout 3. Week after that, I'll get Fable 2 and Legendary. Any other game will wait.....but with November comes a shitload more games I'm going to buy: Gears 2, Resistance 2, Left4Dead, Mirror's Edge, COD:World at War, SvR 09....

I'll probably make the Bond films a Christmas present to myself in a couple months.
