Saw them in Montreal in 2007. One of the BEST shows that I've seen. Phil Collins came out with Chester Thompson and did a six minute drum solo.

Yes! Genesis appreciation! My all-time FAVORITE band, hands down!
Saw them seven times last year: 3 times in Philly, MSG, Giants Stadium, DC, and Chicago. Would've gone to all 25 US shows if my wife would've let me!
I checked my iPod the other day, and out of 13GB of music, about 11GB are Genesis or related (Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Anthony Phillips, Steve Hackett, Mike + The Mechanics, Ray Wilson, etc.). I definitely have very narrow taste when it comes to music.

Saw them in 92. Great show from what I remember. I've been a fan since the Invisible Touch days and can still listen to Abacab and And Then There Were Three in ridiculous amounts.
Definitely one of my top 5 bands.

I just got the 1970-1975 Boxed Set. Classic CD/DVD's and rarities from the BBC.

I'll make no apolgies for being a huge Genesis fan. I love the Gabriel years and the Collins years as well. "Trick of the Tail" and "Wind and Wuthering" were great albums. Even what may fans consider the nadir of their "pop" transformation "Invisible Touch" had plenty of good material. "Tonight, Tonight" was a great song. "Land of Confusion" was a perfectly good pop/rock song for that era. "Domino" was an ok tribute to the prog roots as well.

Do you like Phil Collins?
I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where, uh, Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.
Christy, take off your robe.
Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism.
Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little.
Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as, uh, anything I've heard in rock.
Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your ass.
Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and, uh, Against All Odds.
Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it.
But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

This is one act I would love to see live. My girlfriend is a diehard collins/genesis fan. I'd travel a good way to go see them. My dad saw them in '84 I think. Says it was one of the best he's seen out of the 120+ he's been to

Both eras are equally great. I am just focusing on 1970-1975. Tonight it's Lamb. I know that it sounds a little cliche, but while IMO is not their best, it's definitely their most eclectic.

Anyone pick up the new 1970-1975 box set yet? I ordered the SACD/NTSC import from Japan (HMV Japan). Well worth the $220. The songs sound INCREDIBLE. And the DVD extras are sublime.

Got mine recently. I actually had to buy the British version for the SACDs and the American version for the NTSC DVD, but in the end, it cost no more than what the Japanese SACD/NTSC set would have cost (which is not available anymore) It's a terrific set. The DVD presentation of "The Lamb" shows the complete concert slideshow. Very Cool!! And if you want a laugh watch the DVD presentation of the bridge in "Counting Out Time" I only wish the bonus disc had all the unreleased songs that appeared on the "Gabriel Years" boxed set that came out years ago, but at least they got the best songs from that on it.
I know it's become cool to slag on Phil Collins, but I think the guy is an amazing drummer and vocalist. And one of the biggest unsung heroes of rock music has got to be Tony Banks. I know keyboardists hardly ever get any recognition, but he's got to be the best keyboardist/Mellotron guy out there other than Michael Pinder (Moody Blues)

Not to mention, that Steve Hackett is the most UNDER-rated guitarist ever. EVER.

One of my favorite bands of all-time. I also enjoy the hell out of Phil collins solo career. Is the song "jesus he knows me" Genesis or solo Phil? I love that track.
