Back in 1995, Rare decided to promote Killer Instinct through the inimitable Cranky Kong and his hilarious lines in Donkey Kong Country 2. Two years later, its sequel for N64 got free advertisements hanging from the buildings in Diddy Kong Racing. It looks like crossing the bloody Killer Instinct saga with the kiddiest franchises out there is becoming a tradition in Twycross, judging by the latest addition to the Viva Piñata series. Today, three special vision cards featuring Killer Instinct characters have been released via Rare’s official website.

That way, Fulgore, Orchid and Tusk just joined the Piñata ranks as a helmeted Juicygoose, a bosomy Moozipan and a wild Elephanilla. In other words, right after you put their cards in front of your Xbox Vision Cam you will get a special trio of piñatas that share names and features with the KI characters. A football helmet, headphones, clockwork key and extreme sports goggles for Fulgore’s goose; fake teeth, Viking helmet and a blonde wig for Tusk’s elephant; and lustful lips with a… uh… pearl necklace for Orchid’s cow, which as green as the fighter’s suit on the Killer games. All animals but Fulgore are considered Wildcard variants and can be used as guardians to protect your garden.
What does Rare want to tell us with this new little joke? Who knows. But it’s good to note that it just became the hundredth reference to Killer Instinct in the last few months. You know, there’s no smoke without fire.
