Valve announced today that Left 4 Dead is available for pre-purchase via Steam. The survival horror game has single player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay modes. Those who pre-purchase via Steam will save 10% off the regular price (http://store.steampowered.com/news/1897/).

"With just over four weeks until launch, Left 4 Dead is showing every sign of topping The Orange Box on both the PC and Xbox 360, at retail as well as on Steam," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "Our pre-sell numbers at retail have jumped to over 65% greater than Orange Box at the same proximity to launch, and we're seeing tremendous enthusiasm for the product in what promises to be another great year for gaming on both platforms."

Left 4 Dead will arrive for the PC and Xbox 360 on November 18.

There is a single player and I can't wait for it. Would rather have another installment of half life but this should do in the mean time. I'm in the middle of Bioshock so this will be coming at the right time.

if you have steam there is zombie panic! source available with a few other mods, which i guess is an updated version, but i don't know if it's the same one you are talking about

This is the new trend. Mirror's Edge, you have to pre-order to get the time trial mode on the demo. Resistance2, pre-order to get into the beta.

Fucking stupid. If you're confident that the game you have made is any good, let people play the demo for free, so you can capture the interest of people who maybe werent previously interested in the game. That seems alot more valuable than securing a few more pre-orders from people who were probably already going to buy the game.

I was able to get the demo early. It's fun, but I didn't have as much problems as I've seen with other people. From the 2 levels, Expert difficulty wasn't too bad, unless you are with the absolutely retarded that refuse to move at a decent pace. I wish the demo was also a bit longer, but it still was fun to play.

alright, just got done playing for 4straight hours after it unlocked at midnight.... fucking amazing! possibly the best game ever.

finished 2 of the campaigns, both were pretty badass. zombie horde in the cornfield is a pain in the ass, and 3 tanks @ the end of the airport mission on the tarmac waiting for the plane to fuel up, holy shit.

Whats weird is the more I play this game the more it grows on me. I will say this it is better to play this on the PC than on the console. The graphics look great on both sides as well as control and gameplay mechanics but the big problem is the people on it so far. On the console side couple matches I played with one of the players would run off and would trigger events that hurt everyone else on the team. On the PC side we all kept up communication and looked out for each other. Maybe once the game is out for awhile the console community will grow for this type of game. Right now I am so picking this up on the PC.

Christ, Left4Dead kicks so much ass. Played through the first campaign, "No Mercy" last night with some people on XBL. Fucking INTENSE, especially when you've got hordes (and I do mean hordes) of infected zombies hauling ass to overwhelm you. Oh, and you learn pretty quick to NOT DISTURB THE WITCH.

Holy fuck. I just beat Blood Harvest (on expert, of course). The group had all agreed that it would be our last play through. I was the only one who made it out alive.

Mother fucking tank ***** two of us right before the end and knocked over the third guy right before I killed it. I was about to run for him to pick him up, but everyone was yelling GET TO THE FUCKING APC and the horde almost got me before I escaped

Most epic gaming experience I've had in years. The only other campaign I've played through so far is No Mercy and I was one of the three who didn't survive that time. it's unbelievable how much accomplishment you can feel when winning even if you arent one of the players who make it out.

Now if I can only beat a campaign where two or more of us make it out alive.

I got this game for Christmas, and have only beat the No Mercy Campaign, then started in on the GoW 2 campaign and haven't played since. But, I loved what I played of the game, kicked ass. Add me on XBL if you want to start a party so we can play.

The game is an absolute blast. It's incredibly intense and just a lot of fun. I wish some people on XBL public were smarter but whatever. It's still one of those must owns if you love online gameplay with your friends.

Also, Versus mode is sooooooooo much fun. There's something incredibly hysterical and hilarious about just timing a jump right and tearing a human player limb from limb as a hunter. Or being a tank and hiding in a room and knocking the fuck out of people.

BTW, how the fuck do you get the Akimbo achievement. I went through an entire campaign using only pistols, and it didn't register. Does it fucking negate it if you use molotovs or pipebombs?

i got it only pistols, don't pick up any other guns, no minigun, no gascans/etc. pipebombs and moltovs were fine, also you have to wait till the credits start to run before it shows up

I tried playing the game on Expert last night.

It's fucking insane.

It was difficult enough just surviving regular zombies, I can't fathom how one would manage to survive a witch attack or a Tank assault.

My problem with a lot of games these days is that their definition of the word "harder difficulty" is just making it easier for the player to die. That's not harder, that's just frustrating. Harder is making the enemies smarter, using different tactics to beat you. Maybe more bad guys, less ammo and health stops, etc. Something to increase the actual challenge, not just "oh you die in 3 hits".

advanced/hard is way too easy tho... they need something in between those 2
