...is good.
Been playing since wednesday. Fans of action/adventure looking for the perfect scary game for Halloween, or fans of Resident Evil who need something to tide them over till March, and have already gotten all the non-sensical endings in Silent Hill should check out Dead Space.
Outstanding visuals, good challenge, good story, gory as hell and all the gameplay aspects you'd expect from a survival horror game are hit. Very polished production.
Perhaps a little "meh" on replayability, but there are trophies/achievements.

I was about to start this thread. I picked this up today, and am lovin' it so far. My only complaint is it's a bit too easy on the normal difficulty setting, but it's definitely worth a playthrough for anybody looking for some creepy shit to play.

I was in the parking lot of Gamestop today debating this game. I want it, but couldnt justify buying it a week before Bioshock, and two before LBP. I'm going to save it for when there is a dearth of good games.
Id like for more people to chime in if it is worth it or not...

The art direction is simply stunning. The description of "Resident Evil in Space" is pretty accurate. While it certainly isn't at the level of RE4, its still a very worthwhile game. The combat in particular is very satisfying. Lots a great sound FX when your stomping on juicy body parts or severing limbs with your Ripper.

You're playing Bioshock for the first time? Holy shit, I'm so jealous. One of my favorite games ever.

I'd say get it. If it's not your joint then at worst you'll have some trade in fodder for BioShock and/or LBP.
To everyone who's played Dead Space, how fucking dope was that zero G boss fight in food storage? Just got past that part today.
I picked up my copy today. I'd always planned on buying it, but I am a bit surprised at how well it's being received critically - it's got a ton of positive reviews.

Got it Friday and loving it so far. The atmospheric elements of this game are pretty fucking creepy, like all the sounds and the lighting... and these alien fucks.. good bad guys.. Keep an eye on your six, some of these sneaky bastards creep up behind you.

Im up to about chapter 4 and its one of my fav games of all time already....Just fucking outstanding.
It reminds me of Half Life 1/2/ep1&2 meets Resident Evil 4.
Awesome atmosphere, graphics, sound...Cool enemies..taking them out limb by limb and curb stomping them is always fun as fuck.
This will be a one walk through prob untill Farcry 2, COD WAW, Fable 2, Fallout 3 comes out. but Classic game.

Everyone is saying it is like RE4 but it reminds me way more of Bioshock. A lot of the atmosphere, the powers (like the Telekenesis plasmid), and especially the way the story is told through video/audio found throughout the ship.
I can definitely see RE4 though, like in the zombie-like movement of the bad guys, and the weapon upgrading.
I would say 75% Bioshock, 25% RE4.

I have this game, but still catching up with all the tv from my honeymoon, so I have yet to play this. Also I am waiting for my 63" DLP tv to come so I can play it on that.

Okay so far what weapons are you really upgrading. I started concentrating on the flamethrower and the plasma cutter. The Rail Line sort of sucks.

I've concentrated the upgrades on the plasma cutter, but bought all the other weapons to see how effective they were. I think the pulse rifle was a waste of money...I'll take a hit and trade it in for the next level suit/rig I think. Haven't tried the flamethrower yet... got the schematic, just need to find a store.

Make sure you download your free suit from XBLM or PSN. It's a level 5 rig, but I think it's only gonna be free for 2 weeks. I downloaded it, but I'm not gonna equip it until my next playthrough.

I can see the bioshock also..Bioshock was great a little overrated IMO..I didn't really like the cheese factor....I do and will always think Half Life 2/ep1/ep2 are superior...I just say this cuz my friend was saying how its the best game ever, bought and Enjoyed it but wasn't amazed. Now Dead Space I am amazed. The first couple minutes of the game when The necromorph almost gets you on the elevator but gets crushed right before he can. I actually screamed lol.
Anyone else only play this game at late hours? I don't touch it unless It's dark out.

I just downloaded the demo, and I found it too hard. Kept dying in the first room for some reason, maybe I'm doing it wrong. I think I need V.A.T.S. in every game now :)

I was having the same problem.
My nephew downloaded a pirated version of it and I played a little while on his computer. I hate the over-the-shoulder view. Why they would make it this way unless it was to purposely fishbowl the view, thus make it more scary and easier to be snuck up on.

argh, I don't know what to get.
I'm going to pick up a new game today and I can't decide on getting either this or maybe Left 4 Dead or NFS: Undercover.
Is there any online gameplay in Dead Space?

No, it's single player.
I heard NFS Undercover was complete dogshit.

I finally started playing this last night and I really enjoyed it. Its a good game. I will definitely keeping playing it. If I had any complaint it would be that the camera angle gets annoying sometimes. but a def 9 out 0f 10 from me...

Pretty cool that it's 2 months out, in a busy season in gaming, and people are still discovering this game amid a slew of AA and AAA titles (hype-wise at least) that are dropping all at once.
Nice, promising, new franchise. Hopefully the sequel that's already in development will be at least as good, and perhaps a little longer.
I actually kind of like the camera angle in this. It's claustrophobic, but it's a horror game, not a straight up action title. Plus, the camera isnt glued to the dude's back, like in Gears, it can revolve freely.
As far as horror goes, I'm much more impressed with Dead Space, than I am with what I've seen of RE5 so far, just because RE5 has definitly tipped the balance in favor of action over horror.
Gore does not = horror. Scary does. Dead Space does scary. I loves me some action games, but I wish RE5 would have stuck more to it's roots in this regard.
