Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE boasts an enormous user base, however, many of its users have been nothing short of vocal in criticizing the monthly subscription fee required to fully “jump in.”

Supporters of the service often cited the flexible in-game chat capability as its primary edge over the PlayStation Network, but recent updates on the part of Sony have bridged that gap.

The addition of online capabilities to consoles allowed gamers to remotely connect to each other, but more importantly, from a publishers perspective, it created a viable means for digital distribution of content. On that note, both the PS3 and 360 next-gen consoles have infrastructures capable of delivering digital content to consumers, but which format do publishers prefer?

In a recent interview, Capcom’s digital content product manager, John Diamonon, discussed the current digital distribution options available to publishers. Diamonon complimented the PSN service, and had the following to say about XBL:

“As far as Microsoft goes–how can I say this diplomatically–there are things I think they’d like to do to promote content in multiple ways, and I think they’ll get there eventually… but they’re not there yet.”

It should also be noted that Sony recently granted Capcom a branded PSN storefront (http://www.edge-online.com/features/capcoms-psn-storefront) (the first of its kind), allowing the publisher to pimp their wares and their brand.

There's also a Capcom HOME space in the works supposedly...maybe we can play all those great retro games in a Capcom arcade (there's an arcade in HOME with many different generic games.)

People complain about the subscription fees for Xbox Live? If $50 a year is a little steep for you, MAYBE you shouldn't be buying a game at $60 a pop and a console that costs $400. That's what I paid for it anyways, not sure what it's priced at now.

Never would happen Capcom would always charge for there classic gaming. If anything they may have it that you buy the games from the store then it will allow you to play it on HOME that makes more sense.

Exactly. The cost is a pittance. Even if Sony is becoming more comparable, it's still a nothing of a charge. I pay waaaay more for gas.

Well, I'd rather buy another game than pay for a service that should be free.

I never did mind paying, its only $50 if you break that down its just $4 and change a month. I would agree more about making the XBL free if the service you got from paying was broken but it seems fine. PSN started the Qore program which if you look at it, its is only a few steps away from making you pay for all your online goodies. If enough people sign up for the service I will bet money that Sony would make PSN a paid service just to squeeze out more money.

I'm far more irritated in the points system. A lot of stuff costs money that shouldn't. Gamer pics and themes? Just give them to us. Keep the money for extra content if you absolutely HAVE TO, and for Live Arcade and old Xbox download titles.

Sorry man, youre totally wrong here.

Qore is basically a online magazine. Users pay for exclusive articles, demos, and betas. It isnt a premium service, it has nothing to do with playing online.

You pay for XBOX live, you connect to the servers. You can play online for free with PSN. Sony has said, multiple times, they will keep PSN free. It is one of their selling points vs 360. Think of Qore as just a online periodical.

I have 3 issues of Qore (all I got for free because I subscribr to Playstation Magazine) and it is not worth the money. I would not pay for it.
The only thing I have seen thats worth it os the host, Veronica Belmont. Shes cute, charasmatic, and adorable.
