I work for a county government doing Geographic Information Systems where basically we have layers of geographic data (Parcel / lot boundaries, streets, addresses, building footprints, etc) and use that for printing maps and other analysis.
Anyway, we occasionally get data requests from companies that sell or aftermarket the info which are typically larger real estate firms.
But I just got off the phone with a gaming company that is developing like an online multiplayer game that incorporates this local information and will allow you to play the game in the city you live in or any city in the country. Based on the type of information I work with will probably have streets and buildings you know.
Just thought it was a kind of cool concept.
Don't know if any of the games they have up on their site yet is what he was talking about. And I don't know if this means anything as far as a game development company goes, but there is a shitload of jobs available at this place.
