Quick question
When O&A were fired from their Boston gig after the whole 'mayor' situation, does anyone know how long they were off the air for? Just out of boredom/curiosity.

not sure, but I think that they were picked up relatively quick spending maybe a month or two in radio limbo...

differance between april of 1998 and aug 2002, they played 2-fers - they were DJ, not radio talk shows host. they were not syndicated in 1998. i am sure there are more differances(sp), let someone else post them.

In June 1998....their shows without music or commercial were less than 40 minutes long. By 2002, they were 3 hours.

personally
I always enjoyed O&A before they went syndication..
It was more towards the NYC area humor, and they could listento a smaller fan base and pick on that humor..
when they went syndication(more power to them, dont get me wrong!!) but I started to think they lost something.. they no longer spoke to small audience, but to larger audience, so to me..i didnt feel like i was "special" . The cam stopped, the instant messages seemed to die out on air with more talk, and i would gues more and massive instant msgs..
I was listenr from the beginning, and remember listening when at work who are these guys, but they were funny and different..
sure i misse dlistening to music then..but now...i hate radio with music, if i want music i put in a nice napster cd i have..
or maybe even a O&A copy..
I just remeber O&A used to do local appearances at NY/NJ places, and i was able to see them at the trade winds appearance, when Mendy shoved the Beer botle up her...
Tha was the golden days of O&A..
I hope they realize this..and all you syndication ppl, i bet you will say the best of O&A is before you heard them..the days of NYC radio only...sure Boston got it first, but NYC was a big market..but I am sure each day in Boston radio was great, because they were talking to the boston market only..
Now we are just spinning the wheels till they get back, but I hope we are not over hyping the comeback, and making O&A head's too big, and they come back and flop.... I want them to be successfull and funny and make all our days better once again..but I hope they didnt relax too much over the past two yrs and come back, and Ant cant do a decent impression because he hasnt been practicing..opie cant be straight man because he has been in colorado and banging his wife too much..
Just my worries once again..

you said something in your original post, but to many beers and i cant reed rite anymore tonite.
i began to listen to them right at the begining of syndication. i fell in love. a deep passion the like of which my wife is jealious(sp) of (she don't say anything bout it, but after 13 years of marriage i can tell). i got the pre-syn stuff the past year and listened to it. it always seemed to me that they tried to be as interactive with the show as possiable. but with 18 markets it could get confusing. i try to do things along that line, stay as interactive as i can. but when dealing with so many at once it just gets hard. but the show did not lose(sp) anything that i could tell. it was gaining...pushing and moving forward as best it could.
with all that said, i just want them back.
(52 more to go. was this a relevant post? don't answer that)

i dont think the show "lost" anything.... but it did change... it just became a different kind of show
before syndication, we thought of them as rock jocks fighting the bosses.... after syndication, they won the battle with their bosses

I started to listen to them like a year before syndication...and i dont think that they changed really...they may have not read as much instant feedback...but i dont think thats because they recieved too much...they sort of just left that to the end of the show...and also, the show aired at different times in some of the markets, so they couldn't even get instant feedback from them while the show was live...i think that the show got better as time went on because o and a became more well-known, yet they never changed the way they did things on the show...it was always the same teetering over the edge everyday...and thats what makes the show so great

i brought this same thing up with someone the other day. nose will always do the same thing, get the girl in there and ask the same questions. another one he always asks "would you bang me?"
O&A would bring in the girls, and you knew they would do what they could to make the girl strip, thing was how would they do it? and once she/they did strip the next question was what are they gonna have them do? wiffle ball bat? ice cubes up the hinny? motley crew challange or maybe money snatch? it wasn't just getting her to strip and then go one with the same lame interview that has played over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over (think you get the point) again.
never could tell what would happen on the O&A show.

I was listening the first day they went on the air in Boston, both times. I agree it was different the second time around, when it was syndicated, I just think it was for the better. More O&A is More Gooder. Sure I didn't always get the inside jokes about NYC or Philly, but it didn't matter because they still made it interesting to all the listeners.
Just my two cents.

I can't remember exactly if it was 1999 or 2000 when I got into O&A but I know when I first started listening was right before they stopped playing music. I'll agree that it changed a bit when O&A became syndicated. But it was still funny, no doubt about that
