Exactly. Those of us after 1975 or so all volunteered to be at the tip of the spear and to be a instrument of American defense as well as foreign policy. You sign the dotted line and you know what you're getting into.
I almost had to turn the radio off, it just brought back memories of some of the soldiers we lost in Iraq. I went from laughing to memories of packing up the personal belongings of three of my soldiers to send home. A shittier day's work I've never done.

I wrote this after I saw the post...
Quote:
As a vet who lost several close friends over the past 16 years in Iraq, Afghanistan (and a couple places where we never were) and having visited parents after the funeral... listening to this call just put me right back to all those dark times...God Bless you sir, I am sorry for you and your and family that you have had to endure this...
When soldiers die in combat that is it, no more pain no more loss, the pain sadly is carried own by the parents, wives and children, those are the unspoken victims of war..
|
Its amazing that even tho we have never met, I can share, sympathize and know exactly what you were feeling...yet the ones who never served are the loudest critics and detractors of what we have done and are doing over there...
I would bet that if called again you would put your boots on and do it all over again. I know I would.

Anyone who turns this into a "we shouldn't be in Iraq" thread deserves to have their fucking kneecaps broken. Can you people not be fucking assholes for 10 fucking seconds?
I guess not.

Don, you can express both in one post, without coming off like a tool.
My condolences to the vet that called up, it's disgusting that people have to go through this suffering because of some assholes in the government think a hyper-interventionist policy is the way to keep peace.
See?

No. You can't.
This isn't the place to debate the war. Someone's family member died, and their call was touching to some people listening. Peddle your anti-war shit somewhere else.

Yet in that same call he (the father) inferred that his son should have been in Afghanistan and not in Iraq. I have one friend I just lost in combat, in Iraq, and I feel the same way about that shitty "tangent" Bush decided to go on. My friend would be having a beer with me this coming spring and not waiting for his jaw to drop.
Amazing how some of you think you own the moral high ground.
Peddle your fatherly discipline somewhere else.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows someone who has been in the same situation in Iraq.
Fact is, when you sign up for military service you do your duty. To shit on the mission these folks do just because you in your infinite wisdom think you know better than the Commander in Chief of the United States is retarded and has no place in a thread like this. If you want to bash Bush go somewhere else. This is supposed to be about thanking those who serve with honor, not imposing your agenda.
It's not "fatherly discipline", it's stopping people from derailing a good thread with talking points.
And I do own the moral high ground over assholes who would do that to the troops who are doing important work in Iraq. It's just wrong, and I won't stand for it.

I am just a contractor who inventories shit all day, but we can still sense the feeling of melancholy around here when a soldier has fallen. They fly the flags at half mass, but even more brutal than that is what they do in our DFAC(dining facility). A small table is set up with an American flag, a candle, and a sign hanging from the table referring to fallen heroes.
Witht the exception of the occasional rocket that gets shot into base, things are okay, but then you see a large convoy going out, nd you realize that some of the soldiers may not make it back.
Much thoughts to the father of the deceased soldier. I wish you the best.

Thanks to that man for his service, his family's service, and their sacrifice. It was not in vain, no matter how many piece of shit civies try to convince you otherwise. And a fuck you to all who brought their worthless political opinions into this thread.

To the vet who called: Your son is a hero, and you know that. Everyone who matters to you knows that.
Whether others agree or not should not be important at all to you, except to help you realize that they are insignificant and useless scum, who's comfortable existence is possible only due to the effort and courage of families such as yours.
But, as long as all they do is run their mouths (and that's all they have the courage to do), they do not matter. Your son's life matters, theirs does not. When they die, their life will be summed up by "they owed their existence to you and your son". You and your son did not fight for them, they just happen to be the parasites who are lucky to live in the shadow of the men who know what it takes to keep the country that one wishes to raise his family in safe from savages.

I don't see. He mentioned that he would've preferred that his son be deployed to Afghanistan, but he seemed to realize that this country has a political system in which elected representatives get to decide which wars are worth fighting. You're allowed to have an opinion, but to fight for the United States means to participate in the process of government in which strategic decisions are made by elected officials.
Mistakes are made all the time, but to suggest that the overall effort is not aimed at protecting this country, is to suggest that to sign up for military service is a pointless exercise. That's bullshit. You owe your existence to the overall effort of the people who sign up, including those who fought in Iraq.
I do actually think that it was a poor choice to fight that war, and an even poorer choice to fight it as if it was a peacekeeping mission, but it was nonetheless a fight against this country's enemies. It was a strategic error to fight them there, and a tactical error to fight them while walking on eggshells around the civilian population, but that does not mean it was a useless war. Your opinion of it is skewed by your pacifist ideology, which, if it wasn't for people who know better, would leave you defenseless, to die at the hands of savages.

For speaking the truth? I thought we had freedom of speech in this country.
