New York Film Critics Circle: 'The Hurt Locker' Best Film of 2009
I'd have to agree. I can't think of too many great movies that came out this year, but this is definitely one of them, even though I'm pretty sure it was out in 2008. Also agree with Mo'Nique and of course Christoph Waltz, who owned Inglourious Basterds.

I really wanted to see The Hurt Locker in the theater but it just never worked out with my schedule. I've heard amazing things about it, though, and can't wait to see it on DVD. I can say for sure that it was released wide this summer, though, so if it came out in 2008 it was only a limited release.

For some reason, it was released at a few film festivals in 2008, but didn't have its US premeire until 2009. I think the US release date is what counts for the Oscars, though.

GREAT film. I would say one of the most realistic and stark portrayals of the war I've seen. If you haven't seen it, do so. You will have no reason to doubt it's award.

From what I saw during the trailers, Hurt Locker was one of the few movies I wanted to see this year, just never got around to it. I'm definitely waiting on the DVD.

Its been a slow year for films I think this is the only one that would really win best pic. at the oscars, for me personally I think Inglourious bastards is the best film I've seen this year but I haven't seen the hurt locker (yet) but I expect it to live up to all the praise. I'm into war movies, thought Jarhead was terrible so I'd be interested in seeing a good Iraq war movie.

BTW, why are the film and Bigelow getting so much attention, but no mentions of Jeremy Renner for Best Actor?

The only thing I can figure is that they don't want to drop too many awards on one film? As good as he is in it, it is the film itself that really shines.
As a reversed example, I saw Precious, a good movie made better by great acting. You may see Mo'Nique and even the lead girl nominated for awards and best acting lists, but I doubt the film will be.
Even with all that, he should be at least nominated for an Academy Award.
