Houston not worth it
NEW YORK (AP) - Declaring himself the best player in the NBA at his position, shooting guard Allan Houston re-signed with the New York Knicks on Monday for $100 million for six years.
Houston averaged 18.7 points last season, his fifth with the Knicks. Eleven other NBA shooting guards had a higher scoring average last season.
"I don't think there's anybody better at doing the things that I do," said Houston, an outside shooting specialist who will become the highest-paid 2-guard in the league.
"Everybody's in a different situation, and different teams have different situations," Houston said. "For me, I believe I have to think that way. You sell yourself short if you go out there and don't think you're the best, so that's why I'm saying that."
The signing of Houston is the biggest move of the offseason by the Knicks, who were ousted in the first round of the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
