That started off slow, but picked right up. I expected to hear a "RAMONE" in one of the calls.

they weren't stern fans or if they were they weren't calling in reference to Stern. i've seen many manhattan public access shows over the years and the call-in ones have been plagued by pranks. They do get your phone # (they were able to check somehow, way before caller ID), but who cares? what could they do? i remember this pre-teen kid who used to review movies and would get pranked incessantly. there was once a show called the crank call show from the 70's that was great and unfortunately i can't find any footage of.

There was a public access station in my crappy hometown where I grew up. We used to fuck with the call in shows mercilessly. One show was hosted by the librarian from my grade school, Kay Robinson... a fat chick who wore polyester pant suits in crazy colors. She absolutely haaaaated children, so it's only natural that she would pick a career where she would be surrounded by them. She was a miserable old bat who delighted in getting us in trouble and sending us to the Principal's office. Kay fancied herself a psychic, and she hosted a show called The Psychic Eye. We would call in and demolish her. We were relentless. We'd call in and ask her shit like, "If you're so psychic, who am I?" or "What finger am I holding up?" She'd go off her rocker and scream at us that our calls were being traced, and the police were coming to arrest us, while we laughed our balls off.

Then there was this lunatic called Bill Pope, he called himself "The Patriarch of Politics". He was a right-wing nutjob who hosted a political talk show. My brother used to call in and do a fag voice, he'd get Bill all riled up about gay rights. Bill haaaaated fags and my brother would have him foaming at the mouth within five minutes. My brother would say crazy shit like, "Jesus was gay, it says so right in the Bible." One time, Bill got so pissed that he ripped his big Coke bottle glasses off of his head and threw them at the camera... they shattered in a million pieces... his own glasses... what's up with that?

Or Danny Kielbasa (I swear I'm not making that up), he was a town councilman or something, and he hosted a show about local politics. The dude was morbidly obese, dumb as a sack of hammers, an insufferable ass, and an egotistical pig. He got caught stealing funds from the accounts of the annual Polkafest(again... I'm not making this up), and was publicaly disgraced. We locked up the phone lines of his show, calling in and busting his balls when the whole Polkafest scandal was going down. We didn't give two shits about any of it, but backwater politics was his life, and goddamn did we have fun watching him squirm.

Ahhhh... good times.

I wish to God we had recorded some of it, but this was back in the day before VCRs in every household. It was comedy gold. Comedy gold I tells ya!
