North America Deactivations - 19,621 on 5/15/07
Just got off the phone with XM to Verifiy they canceled.
He started rambling on how it's bullshit and he totally agrees with us.
I asked him straight out: Any idea how many cancellations.
He flipped some papers around and said
"In North America Alone we had 19,621 yesterday"
He totally agreeed with me and even told me to visit PEOPLEAGAINSTCENSORSHIP.COM

Why would he be telling you to visit websites to show support for things that are bashing the shit out of the company he works for right now?

Because he's a reasonable person that gets it. It's not like he has some high level position that he can't risk losing. If he wants another call center job he can get one with another company tomorrow.

yesterday? double that today, 40,000 at least
nice, so thats roughly 30 subs for every 1 of the subs we counted
thats almost 1000 cancellations an hour
at any average wait time of 30-45 mins and 2-3 subs a person, I figure they'll be completely tied up for the next 2 days at least, a possible 80,000 subs and they havent even announced a firing yet.

Lets just say all those were single radios, paying monthly
$259,000 a month loss (rounded up to 20k) x 12 = $3,108,000
Good chunk of money

Assuming that's not all single radios, that's still well over 2 million dollars in annual income. They also know they'll take another hit when/if they officially fire them, and the fact that that's almost 20,000 unofficial XM sales people that aren't out there telling friends and family about the product anymore. The more the better, but for one day that's a good number of subs.

Don't this thats a lot do the math 20,000 subs X 12.95=$259,000 a month X 12 months= $3,108,000.
Not bad for 1 day. KEEP CANCELLING!

a lot of them are family plans so you have to drop the average to about $10 since its 6.99 for families. thats still a hell of a lot

Anybody have an idea how to this over to FMQB? IF they have it then the rest of the media will pick up on it.

Update: I have been told that customer service reps at XM Radio are saying that over 38,000 subscriptions were canceled yesterday alone. That does not include today's cancellations. I do not know exactly how accurate that number is, so take it with a grain of salt.
However, it is 100% clear to anyone that has called XM thus far that the consumer is making a huge impact and that XM is feeling the heat. Again, keep it up...
Via CANCELXM.COM
Well, we have conflicting reports now
ATLEAST WE ARE GETTING #'s now
Can a mod change the topic to address the conflicting #'s and that we are atleast getting some statics. However you want to word it

Exactly... the people who will leave are the people who would have been most likely and CAPABLE (out of ANYONE) to recommend and promote XM services to family and friends. Makes no sense at all. They are losing the very top of their customer cream. Horrible business choices.

that's only if you have two radios though, right?
so each person is canceling at least 12.
wait...fuck.
I think we're arguing the same point.
sorry.

I emailed cancelxm and reported what I was quoted, told her we were just taking the averages between the two.
Athough, if 19,621 was just accounts, the 38k # makes sense for multiple radios

For anyone who thinks those numbers are low...
XM announced net subscriber gain of 285,000 during Q107 - thats roughly 95,000 net adds subscriptions per month - or 3,167 per day.
If either of those numbers are true for cancellations yesterday (either 20,000 or 40,000), that means XM would have had to add 23,167 - 43,167 NEW subscriptions yesterday to make up the difference..
Puts it in perspective...also means, 5 days of this at the low estimate (20k cancellations) and they will have cancelled more than they should net the entire month.
