Default Was Kimbo fight fixed...tune in at 11!

Ok, ok, I'm not a big conspiracy theory type of guy, but there are some things on this video that make you go hmmmm.

http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2008/...041x1200134084

I watched the fight live, and I got to say I kind of had the thought running through my head also.

I remember the possibile tap, and remember the announcer saying "Kimbo's letting him know hes ok". I'm not to sure about that. Quickly it looked like he tapped, and the video seems to lean that way. I do remember a few times the weird pan outs they did.

Should it have been stopped when thompson had him pinned, questionable. He had no defense, but Thompson wasnt laying huge bombs down. I also agree that some of the standups were a bit strange. Thompson was doing enough in side mount to warrant it staying there.

Did it get stopped early, maybe. Thompson did have a glassy look on his face, but the ear should never have been the reason for the stoppage.

I dont know, it does allow for some speculation and discussion. Personally I wasnt overly happy with the night. I think Baronis entrance reeked of the Pro Wrestling vibe that Pride used to pull. Was just silly. Any thoughts?

All told...the fight was kinda dull. The girl fight was one of the higlights of the evening though.

The chicks put on a good fight and that stopage was legit, IMO.

However, why the fuck was the same ref used in the majority of the fights? That in itself reeks of a corrupt fight.

2. Miragliotta shouldn't have stood them up at 2:56 of the second round. I agree, he shouldn't have. Thompson was in an advantageous position and should have been given more of an opportunity to exploit that advantage. But referees stand guys up all the time in positions where one fighter has an advantage. That doesn't mean the ref is in the tank for the fighter at the disadvantage.
not true. when a fighter is in side control it almost never gets stood up. this alone is and was enough at the time to convince me that it wasnt a fix, but the ref had a clear bend towards one fighter. which is always possible in big fights. sometimes its personal bias, or because of the promoter.

All told, I'm not sure that event is going to help the sport grow much. As a fan of MMA, I found the event pretty dull and clearly inferior to UFC, or for that matter, any PPV event, as they stopped everything at stupid times. It was a mildly fun evening, but I might be able to attribute that to the copious amounts of Jameson's that I was enjoying.

CBS should dump the promoter/league and get WEC for the slot.

there are lots of dummies out there. tell them Kimbo is the next Tyson, they will believe it. Lots of people seem to think it was a good fight between 2 good fighters. sad but true. they just dont know any better and buy into hype very easily

The fix was definately in. Elite saw it's poster child losing. I personally think they went up to the ref between rds and told him if thompson gets in trouble stop the fight. the card sucked as a whole. The idiot fans there booing Smith/Lawler made me sick. Elite sucks. A few good fighters on their roster but mostly has beens and never will be's and 1 overhyped n-word

I agree. You know their roster is thin when they're talking about Kimbo fighting for their HW title and KJ Noons is their LW champion. After the other night, unless Nick Diaz or Jake Shields is fighting, I won't bother watching

Gina Carano was very watchable though. Enjoy more of her here: http://wackbag.com/showthread.php?t=91531

I was already comparing the shitty announcers to pro wrestling, the fights might as well be fixed too I guess. The whole thing was terrible so I'd find it hard to give a shit.
