I don't understand how there can be LE multiplayer maps. Will people without the LE not be able to play them? In other words, almost no one will play those maps and they're completely pointless? I really hope they don't do something stupid like get rid of dedicated servers...

Basically, the LE is early and free access to the DLC. They DLC will be available for sale about 1 month after the games release, to those that didnt get the LE.

I didn't care about the maps, I was just worried about how they would regulate maps and how it would fuck PC gamers. But I looked it up and BF3 will have dedicated servers so it's all good. I thought it would be another COD MW2.

Make it better than CoD:MW or Blops and I'm in. If it's not as good, then it can stay with the other Tactical Shooters out there.

Same way they did with BF2:SF and the two map packs after that. I doubt it will be an issue.

Hero: If youre looking for a spamfest with unrealistic weapon handling and such, you probably will want to stay away. BF2 wasnt ultra-realistic, but it was more realistic than MW and MW2 are. No dual-UMP45's or lever action shotguns, stupid perks, etc etc.

I hate spam. A lot. MW2 was nothing but spam it's entire shelf life. Once I saw that you couldn't go prone in BF2 though, that took a lot of the 'realism' out of it for me. Jury is out on BF3 for me. I'd welcome a change to the 'run/gun' of CoD though. We'll see.

So excited about this. I've gone back to playing MOH: Tier 1 to hold me over, but it's only going to last me so long...

I'm guessing Pat Battlefield destroyed the ability to search WB for that word. ;)

Whoa, who the fuck are you?!

Bf3 better allow bots on larger maps. I love practicing with bots, but I also like flying planes. Could never really have fun with that in BF2

But I agree. Battlefield series > Call of Duty series.

If you want realism, play ArmA 2 like a real man. I can't wait for Battlefield 3 though.

You referring to America"s Army? I've heard good things about that game but never had an interest in downloading it.

No. I'm referring to Armed Assault 2 by Bohemia Interactive. BI makes war simulators for the US and other NATO and Anglo countries. It's more immersive and difficult to play with the amount of realism it has. If you don't mind not so great graphics but like playing as part of a team, give it a shot. Here's a video of me playing the first Armed Assault.

    NEW INFO:

-Aiming for CY Q4 2011 release
-Concept for BF3 has been in the works for years, waiting on proper tech to seamlessly come together
-Frostbite 2.0 is the culmination of this tech, entirely re-written
-Lighting sounds neat; one "probe" contains more lighting information than an entire BFBC2 level.
-Level destruction is going to be "believable" but basically everything is destructible.
-Character animations powered by ANT, what EA Sports uses.
-AI characters and multiplayer characters have different animation sets
-No more "gliding" animations that look off, animation realism is a focus
-Captured their own war audios (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) at different distances to ensure realism
-Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats
-Plan on better, more immediate post release content
    -More unlocks than BFBC2
-Dice trying to find a good balance between customization of your character and not having "pink rabbit hat(s)"
    -4 classes
    -Will talk about squads "later"
-Looking into a theater mode but can't talk about it
    -Will have co-op
-There will be a kill-cam but it can be turned off
-BF3's team is almost twice as big as the team for BFBC2
-They want the pacing of the single player mode to be balanced, with highs and lows. Makes the comparison to a song vs a guitar solo.
-Part of the single player mode takes place in Sulaymaniyah - Iraqi Kurdistan.
-"F**k" will be used often, so M rates for sure
-Significant narrative that goes with the SP mode
-More than one setting, you're not in the middle east for the whole game
    -PC version is lead version
-Why 64 players for PC only? No complains from the console crowd.
-No mod tools at release. Maybe none down the line either. Frosbite 2.0 is complex and mods tools would have to be dumbed down, so does Dice really want to put their time to that or would it be better spent elsewhere?

Pics are broke, dude. Good info, though, especially the fact that PC is the lead version. I get the feeling we will be seeing classes somewhere between MoH and BC2 in terms of setup. I am ok with that, since theyre obviously going for heavy customization.

If they stay true to form I'm guessing MoH classes + Medic.

I don't understand the need for a "lead" platform. Why not just make 3 versions that work and are regularly updated?

Because they do the primary development for one system, then modify it to work on the other systems. Most current games are designed for consoles first and ported to PC - usually ending in a craptastic PC experience. MW2 is a perfect example of this. Since BF3 is being developed for PC first, it should guarantee the PC experience is top notch.

I've gotta say, that'll be fucking awesome if they stick to their totally destructible environment thing then put some good city maps in there. Most of the multi-story buildings in BC2 were in pretty country type of settings (like the snow level) and the big structures on the ends weren't destructible.

    I see potential for epicness.
