Has anyone checked out "Firefly" Friday nights? It's just before John Doe. I think it's a damn good show. Origonal idea, good acting, has a unique feel. Also the big guns and sarcastic wit continues to show Joss Weadon's (sp?) nose for comedy mixed with action.
'Side's, the chicks are hot. Well, I'm not sure about the crazy one.

Bumping this thread because I just now got around to watchig this show on Netflix after countless people told me how mandatory it was for me to watch, being a sci-fi fan. I have to tell you, like everyone else I asked myself, "HOW THE FUCK WAS THIS CANCELLED?!" Of course, immediately upon finishing the series I hit "play" on Serenity. God bless the instant queue.

That being said, why is it that when this thread was made, only one person responded? I figured this board would have strapped in for the ride. Of course, '02 is considered prehistory for Wackbag, so I'll not let it bother me.

Sorry for bumping the old thread, but really I think it deserves more discussion. I am now addicted to a show of which I could only watch one season. I'm glad I got to see Serenity and get some closure, but I would have liked it if I could go out and buy a season 2 disc set. Space cowboys = awesome.

I watched all of it. Not bad.

Babylon 5 is still my favorite of all time.

It was on FOX, so why wouldnt it be cancelled?

I've liked almost every show Nathan Fillion has ever been on:
2 Guys a Girl and a Pizza Place (fuck you, i liked it)
Buffy (fuck you, I only watched the last season)
Firefly (canceled by FOX)
Lost (1 whole episode!)
Drive (another good show canceled by FOX)

Of course now he's in Castle, which is shit.

Why didn't I respond to this
For me, I have had an aversion to any new sci-fi shows because they rarely last past the first season and I was not going to invest my time on something that was not going to have a nice arch and ending. . Therefore I usually waited till they were picked up for a second season before I started to watch.

People blame the low ratings and eventually cancellation on that the pilot was not played first but the second episode, the scheduling was screwy and the whole concept of wild west crossed with sci fi was not that well known.

That being said, when it came out on DVDs, I watched them and really liked them. And I was hoping for some sort of ending that isn't a comic... Serenity was an okay movie with non-enjoyable plot twists. Maybe he was trying to kill it off?

I also kept track of the actors and who were on Firefly by noticing their careers in other projects.

Thanks to this show I get a little annoyed when I watch sci fi and you can hear all the lasers and engine sounds during exterior shots.

I thought the practice of following the rules in regards to sound waves was really cool.

Lol, that's what I mean. In terms of the show. 02 is when they got fired. The first extinction, so to speak.

Well worthy of the bump. Probably my all time favorite Sci-Fi TV show. But I haven't given Babylon 5 a shot yet. It still bums me out a little when I think about how Fox screwed them around.

Add "V" to the list for Inara (and I guess Wash even though I only watched like 3 eps of V) and Chuck for good ole Jayne.

I loved Firefly. I especially loved the little things like how Chinese culture seems to have become dominant sometime between now and their era (to the point where most curse words are in Chinese, for example). I also thought the music was always top notch, and it was generally a quality product. Shame that it got canceled.

Got bored and plugged "Firefly" into youtube. Here's what came up.

Noticed Fillion saying "Frak" a few times. Kinda divided by zero there, love it.

Farscape is still the best of them all, once you get past the muppet factor and realize how amazing writing is you'll be hooked, you just have to tough it out through the first season.

Muppets? EEeeeeww boy.

Will check out Babylon 5 though. Assumed that was just one of the corny ones. Might check it out now that I've been told it's not the case.

I hate sci-fi (which is strange, because The Twilight Zone is my favorite series of all time) but I watched Serenity a couple years back and thought it fucking rocked. That lead me to watch the Firefly series a couple times, and...I just don't get it. I mean, it's a decent show but I zone out trying to watch it. There's just something about it that I'm not interested in...which I don't understand because I think the storyline is great, the actors are all great at their parts, etc. It's just...when it all comes together (in the series) it just doesn't work for me.

The mistake you made was watching Serenity first. I honestly don't think I would have liked Serenity had I not seen Firefly. As a standalone movie I'm not sure if it works.

Bab 5 stinks. Never could get into it. Same with that Stargate crap.

Firefly is still one of my favorite series of all time.

Pretty much this. I thought B5 had some stellar storylines.

"If you go to Zahadoom, you will die."

By the way, anyone else think they ripped off the name Zahadoom (homeworld of the Shadows) from Lord of the Rings and Khazad Doom (the bridge over fire and SHADOW)?

I would even say skip that first season. It kind of sucks on its own, you can't really appreciate it without seeing the middle + end of the series. I watched it out of order starting with seasons 3-4, then went back with 1-2. Its the best Sci Fi/space show outside Star Trek.

Deep Space 9 is still the greatest ever.

If you want more of the wild west/sci fi mash-ups in series form, your choices are mostly limited to anime.
Cowboy Bebop, Last Exile and Trigun. There are a couple of episodes of Justice League Unlimited that have it as well.

Cowboys vs Aliens is a forthcoming movie but I don't expect much.

They weren't cows inside. They were waiting to be, but they forgot. Now they see sky, and they remember what they are.
