Really? No one started this yet?

Last year, as a Met fan, baseball was starting to become, for a lack of a better word, boring.

Then, the crazy playoff races and even better playoffs happened.

Just when I was getting out, they reeled me back in!

My team blows again this year, but I still love the sport.

    And go....

I have always hated that the Mets, in the 80's, went bush league with a home run apple out of the hat, but this is fucking retarded and embarrassing:

I'm not a fan of the Cards having to go to that circus-stadium for 1 game to open the 2012 season.
Oh wait, we're opening the season this morning at 6AM with the great A's/Mariners games...

Well Absolutely. enjoy your team's lethargic play for the first couple weeks of the season.

No, no, no... The Cardinals aren't playing in Japan. The Cards are playing a 1 game opener with Miami this coming Weds night.
The As and Mariners are opening in Japan, 2 games.

And as far as I can tell the game isn't even being televised nationally? MLB Net is showing that it has a 2 hour "Best of" the game at 9AM, but nothing live.
    What's the point?

So Magic Johnson now is the primary owner of the Dodgers...?

I like that McCourt bought them for like 400 Million, kind of fucked them, and profits by selling the team for 2 Billion.

I wish I could just buy and sell pro sports teams

And the 1st hit of 2012 goes to Ichiro, in Japan, on one of his weak infield hits.

The A's lineup is so anemic... Their 3,4,5,6 is Crisp, Seth Smith, K.Suzuki, and Josh Reddick.
With Brandon Allen and Eric Sogard at the corners.

Eric Sogard looks like an accountant

Magic isnt the primary owner. He will be the face of the organization. Mark Walter will be the controlling owner. Stan Kasten is also in that group. So this is a major win for Dodger fans and for Mccourt. McCourt will make a profit of around a billion dollars for being incompetent.

As a Dodger fan I have mixed feelings on the guy. When he bought them, they were really in a bad place. Hadn't won a playoff game in over a decade. He at least had a commitment to winning.

I liked the refurbishing of Dodger Stadium, but didn't like the fact that he had to mortgage an already paid-off stadium to do it.

Had this divorce thing not gotten in the way, I don't think he would have been THAT bad of an owner. Glad it's behind them now.

Seriously? you should be overjoyed as a dodger fan

McCourt did refurbish the stadium. but he also raised the prices for tickets and concessions every year.

But he also caused major problems from the beginning. He never should have been able to buy the team. he had to much debt to purchase the team. He defaulted on part of the collateral to buy the dodgers.

All the divorce did was speed up the process. McCourt was playing a shell game during his entire tenure. The Dodgers paid manny 8 million dollars last year and this year. They are paying Andrew jones 3 million dolalrs a year for 3 more years. They owned 4 homes in the LA area for like 90 million dollars. He was the college kid getting his first credit card and thinking he was rich.

A's/M's will have 2 of the 5 worst offenses in the league. I don't think either team will score more than 650 runs.

Yeah McCourt is pretty much all that is bad in baseball and business. He was propped up by Bud for way too long. Good thing he's out of the game. All he did was fuck the fans over.

If the Dodgers can go from needing a loan from Fox to meet payroll to $2 billions - what does that say about the worth of the Yankees?

I think the M's will be much better than say the Astros. At least the M's have a little something going on with Ackley, Smoak, Montero.

Look at Eric Sogard... He's the accountant on your softball team that's never played baseball before but is trying to fit in. You stick him in RF and hope he forgets there's a game that night. Even his hat looks dorky.

I can see the Mariners winning maybe 70 games. I think they will be really good next year. They have a ton of pitching coming up and Ichiro's contract goes bye bye. So they will ahve some money to spend

But is anyone going to want to go to Seattle?
I know they will if the M's are willing to pay like 2-3 Million more a year, but it seems like a lot of top free agents are more serious about "Playing for a contender".

I think so. They will have 3 or 4 really good starters in 2013 or 2014. So the team should be able to compete with some free agent signings.

I screwed the pooch royally on my predictions last year, but what the hell, here goes:

AL East - Rays, Yankees, Jays, Red Sox, O's
AL Central - Tigers, Royals, Indians, White Sox, Twins
AL West - Rangers, Angels, Mariners, A's

AL Wild Card Play-in: Yankees over Angels
    Rangers over Yankees
    Rays over Tigers
    Rangers over Rays

NL East - Nationals, Phillies, Marlins, Braves, Mets
NL Central - Cards, Reds, Brewers, Pirates, Cubs, Astros
NL West - D-Backs, Giants, Dodgers, Padres, Rockies

NL Wild Card Play-in: Giants over Phillies
    Cards over Giants
    D-Backs over Nationals
    D-Backs over Cards

World Series - Rangers over D-Backs.

My predictions... I want to put the Sox 4th like you did, but I just can't. But I like the Jays a lot. Bard and Doubront don't inspire a lot of confidence, either does Beckett for me, and who knows about Bucholtz's old-man back.

And I assume it's the same rules as before where the "#1 seed" can't play the W.C team if it's from their own division, but I'm not 100%

AL East - Yankees, Jays, Red Sox, Rays, O's
AL Central - Tigers, Royals, White Sox, Twins, Indians
AL West - Rangers, Angels, Mariners, A's

AL Wild Card Play-in: Jays over Angels
    Tigers over Jays
    Yankees over Rangers
    Yankees over Tigers

NL East - Braves, Phillies, Marlins, Nats, Mets
NL Central - Cards, Reds, Brewers, Pirates, Cubs, Astros
NL West - D-Backs, Giants, Rockies, Dodgers, Padres

NL Wild Card Play-in: Phillies over Reds
    Cards over Phillies
    Braves over DBacks
    Cards over Braves

World Series - Yankees over Cards :(

I don't like taking the Phillies, but I just don't have a ton of confidence in them. Sure they would win 105 games 3-1, but I don't love their offense without Utley and Howard. The Braves I think will win the NL East, but I want to take the Sexy-Fish. Can't

Bit of a homer pick on the Cards, but I really think the NL is winnable by anyone. Especially if Carpenter is back at some point and you've got a 4 man playoff rotation of Wainwright/Carpenter/Garcia/Lohse.

What did the Braves do over the offseason that makes you think they'll overtake the Phillies?
