This is something that has always fascinated me, and every so often someone posts a link to a UFO sighting, an alien abductee interview, testimonies from air force and NASA officials, etc.

I figured there should be a thread dedicated to discussing this kind of stuff, and since all I found in search was the occasional link (scattered among things that had nothing to do with my search), I've decided to start a discussion.

So if you have any evidence of the existence of extraterrestrial life, or even better, personal stories/photographs, post here.

Also, your take on the whole thing. Are we alone? Is most of the evidence a hoax or is there something fishy going on that the government isn't telling us about? Whatever your thoughts, share them here and lets get a debate going!

    My contribution:

I've been checking out this thing called "Project Disclosure;" interviews and press conferences with testimonies from Military officials regarding UFOs.

(My only problem with this one: The guy at the very beginning starts singing--TOTALLY not a loon)

Here's the most interesting interview I've seen, with footage from the space shuttle Columbia. Holy shit.

I honestly believe that we aren't alone, and that aliens have indeed been here. Whether or not government officials have seen them, or even know about them, I have no idea.

Buzz says he saw something though:

I have a passing interest in UFO-type stories. I've always wondered, though, if there are aliens out there, and they are capable of exploring the whole universe, why would they ever want to come to earth? This place is 400 kinds of screwed up.

Might be the reason they've never established contact. They may have studied us, but realized we are just too violent and not worth it.

Example: "The Battle of L.A." We spotted a UFO back in the 40s and started UNLOADING on it, unable to bring it down. Later the Military called it a "weather balloon." We can't shoot down a weather balloon???

I think 99% can be explained away scientifically. But that 1%...

I really don't think we've been "discovered" when humans have been around. We've only been around for a nanosecond in the cosmic calendar. Maybe aliens cruised by when the dinosaurs were roaming the earth, who knows.

I definitely think there's life out there and think SETI is the best way to find it. I think there's even microbiolgical life (or has been) in our own solar system on Mars or maybe the moons of Jupiter.

I look at it this way there is estimated to be 200 BILLION galaxies in the "known" universe each of those galaxies contains by themselves from 100-300 BILLION stars which are surrounded by quadrillions or quintillions of planets yet...we're the only one I don't buy it.

I think either the life in other regions of space is like us unable to travel distances needed, they ignore us because we're like ants are to us, or they just don't know we're here. I like the idea that perhaps they are far beyond us so maybe they just study us and our planet which might explain abductions, sightings, crashes and so on.

A perfect example of the carny and rube show that is the UFO/Aliens racket.

UFO carny uses creative editing, truth twisting, a British accent, and some creepy music... offers it up as evidence in a "documentary" and the rubes lap it up.

Don't be such easy marks and utter dupes for this UFO crap, people. Do your homework.

    Ah.

That Buzz video, you're right, I did no homework on it. I saw it just passing through the others I was posting and thought, "Hmm, interesting."

This is the biggest issue with the UFO videos. I don't think I've actually seen any HARD evidence, whether it's because the government keeps it under wraps (maaaaaaaaaaaaaan) or because the suckers are so evasive, or because most are fake (and a lot of them are, people LOVE attention). But I still can't wrap my head around that Columbia video. What the hell was all that stuff?

One interesting theory is that many UFO's are actually life forms FROM THE PLANET EARTH. Flying creatures that are only visible in infrared and move extremely quickly. But, of course, that's just a theory.

I remember watching another special on USO's (Am I correct in the abbreviation? Unidentified submersibles?), where they talked about the possibility that aliens have an outpost in the ocean, and because it is such a vast space, they are able to enter and leave without anyone knowing.

You really have to be careful when you venture into the UFO/Alien arena... the entire gimmick is crawling with carnies.

The "it's a big universe" line also argues against contract, if there are aliens out there.

As Kaku has said, the logical thing to do for an advanced civilization to do is to send robotic probes around the universe. When something it recognizes as life is found, copy itself. Leave one copy behind to observe and another to go home and tell its creators that it found something.

Is there probably life out there? I think so, but it's not like there's any real proof. We've got one good example of a biosphere producing life (there's still doubt as to whether the Mars microbial evidence is stuff that went on a Earth-Mars-Earth journey), and trying to predict how hard/easy it is for life to arise in other situations is impossible from that one piece of evidence.

Whether there's intelligent life that's visited Earth or not, that's either a "no" or effectively a "no". If the aliens are around, they either don't want us to know or they just don't care. That means they're not going to be giving us any cool shit so their existence would be pure knowledge of no real use or utility for us as a species. That, or they're our secret overlords, and fucking with them is just going to get us killed. If there's no realistic chance of freedom, I'd rather be a very well-kept sheep than be beating on the bars of my cell for the rest of my life.

This. Once you're working in dimensions other than the ones in our physical world, space & time cease to matter.

My first thought was it's sperm (or some other microscopic organism) swimming around under a microscope. The "tether" could be anything they put in the frame to give scale. It wouldn't be that hard to take actual video from NASA and splice it with a fabricated video.

I find the did aliens visit ancient man theroy interesting and I do believe that there is life on other planets. That being said, I refuse to watch most specials about UFO's. Because there really hasn't been any new information uncovered about the subject, most the specials just rehash the same old shit and they get boring after awhile.

How? They are extremely fast, and no one really knows where they are coming from. But surely if they are living creatures they must stop and rest at some point, they can't just fly around all day.

I had a short time of great interest in the whole UFO thing, but I was also drinking tons of mountain dew to stay up all night delivering pizzas and listening to Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell (absolute best conspiracy radio show).

If you're interested in the Face on Mars and all that cydonia stuff, check out The Mars Mystery by Graham Hancock. It's laid out pretty well and he makes coherent arguments, pretty interesting.

I was watching some special and they had an old diary entry from Columbus while on his voyage, where he casually mentions spotting a bright object flying out of the ocean and up to the sky.

They have... but when they check the net, the "Rods" mysteriously turn themselves into insects... probably using some sort of holographic Romulan cloaking device.

    Sorta like that...

It's kind of a stretch to conclude that Columbus was looking at something along the lines of a flying object based upon the sketchy details of the actual log entry.

He clearly indicates that the light was very far away, and the fact that he took it as a sign that land was near seems to indicate that he assumed the origin of the light was earthbound rather than flying around autonomously or coming from the open ocean.
