If people knew how close they've come to sharks just by getting in the water at the beach no one would ever get in the water again. Great Whits are a lot more rare, sure, but they're still right off the coast, easily able to come up to the beach and snag your little precious.
I accidentally kicked a hammerhead shark once when I was cavorting in the surf on Diego Garcia(a tiny flyspeck of an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean). It whipped me with it's tail when it bolted... scraped the fuck out of my foot. It scared me so bad that I actually ran up on the beach and puked. Fucking hammerheads... goddamned freaky looking motherfuckers. The stuff of nightmares.
My fear would be based on boat size. They are on a pussy little 21 foot fishing boat. I would have been shrieking like a little girl that just had a spider crawl on her leg and the contents of my bladder and bowel would be residing in my pants.
I love the guy bitching about someone not taking care of his $380 rod while the largest predator he will ever encounter is just waiting to eat one of his party. Fuck that so hard.
That was probably a bonnet head: Hammerheads are very shy, hang out in huge schools, and tend to be very deep-water dwellers:
