The time is upon us, gentlemen. A mere fortnight until our first glorious Saturday of the Fall. Even less than that until our first game. Coaches poll: 1. Alabama (58) 2. Ohio State (3) 3. Oregon 4. @JBradEdwards: Bama No. 1 in an AP poll for the 6th straight season. Since AP began in 1936, only Miami (1986-92) has also done that. AP Top 25 @AP_Top25 Alabama received 58 of 60 first-place votes. Matching 2009 Florida for highest percentage of 1st place votes received in preseason poll. Cecil Hurt @CecilHurt The last AP preseason No. 1 to finish the season at No. 1? USC in 2004.
My Buckeyes are looking pretty good on paper. Question marks at LB and DB depth as well as the OL. But we have a relatively easy schedule and return a lot of playmakers on offense and defense. Really looking forward to seeing freshman Dontre Wilson get some balls, he should be a burner. So fuckin ready. O-H!
What's the first must-see game? Georgia @ Clemson I guess? I have to personally wait until Oct 5th for a decent Mizzou game. Not that they can't lose before, but, Vandy and then Georgia is months away.
UNC/USCe and Ole Miss/Vandy on that first Thursday will be on my TV. Two pretty good match ups. Clowney is pre season favorite for Heisman that I've seen mentioned most.
AU named their starting QB yesterday. By all accounts from former/current coaches and players, Nick Marshall is "a baller". Pretty excited for this season. We should actually score some points, and our defense should also be in a good position. I'd be okay with 7-5 and a bowl win. Also, AU kicked a safety off the team for getting busted for possession of pot. Senior too, with a chance to go to the NFL. Fucking dummy.
Yeah, those are good enough games. Especially considering I've found myself watching multiple BIG10NET replays the last month or so. I'm ready for football. I believe Clowney is 2nd, behind B.Miller, but close. And I think most sites have taken Manziel down for the time being. But, you "can't" win if you're on defense, and you "can't" win back-to-back, so if I had to bet I'd take Miller.
A receiver hasn't won since Desmond Howard in early 90's. And he won it more for special teams iirc. The year Crabtree had over 1900 yards, he finished out of the top ten in voting. The next year he had around 1100 yards and finished 5th. I didn't realize only one receiver has gone over 2000 yards in a season, Trevor Insley from Nevada. Teams will probably just double and triple team Clowney. The guy on the line next to him will probably have a great year and the Chiefs will take him in the first round.
Any of you drunks ever been to Notre Dame? I just got tickets for the home opener in a couple weeks, looking for things to do Friday before the game.
Anyone think Urban Meyer will get some blow-back from this Rolling Stone piece on Aaron Hernandez? http://www.rollingstone.com/culture...-aaron-hernandez-story-20130827#ixzz2dEhSofkF Or is this old-hat?
He won't get any blow back, but the way Meyer disciplines players at Ohio State going forward is definitely going to come under scrutiny. I think that's why he suspended that one running back who got arrested for assault a few weeks back.
Johnny Football will start the season on the bench, having been suspended for the first half of Texas A&M's opener against Rice
Does the NCAA just not care how retarded they constantly look? Every day there's a "Hey, look at this hypocrisy" article. My favorites have been the Jay Bilas finding out that you can search college kid's names and buy their jerseys, while suspended. And now this one. Selling photos of the guy, while you're announcing that he's in trouble for profiting off his own name.
I've been watching and supporting LSU football for as long as I can remember, but the game that got it all started for me was back in like 1986-ish with the University of Wyoming playing BYU at like 11:00pm on ESPN and it just being a classic smash mouth football game. I couldn't turn away. There was literally no defense but I didn't care. Over 100 points were scored and from that point on I was hooked on college football. My dad and I would watch every game we could for HOURS on end on Saturdays. I still do that when I'm afforded the opportunity. I can't be bothered with the NFL. I've watched two pre-season games and they've thrown more flags than I've ever seen. It's become a pussy league. They can't even celebrate anymore. Ponderous.
