Nice weather. Took the day off to do fishing.

Met my brother at the boat dock at sunrise. We caught fish here and there. Not a spectacular bite today but we managed to keep a limit of walleyes and one perch to eat. They'll be tasty.

Wind never got over 10 mph. Temp was in the mid 60s. Partly cloudy. Perfect day on the water and other than a slight tightening of a negative battery connection being needed everything worked perfectly on the boat.

We also peed in the lake.

Did bass fishing. Lake will be too weedy to fish in a week or two. Caught a few dozen smallmouth bass and one largemouth bass. Then it got windy and we quit.

The youngest wanted to go fishing so we went fishing. Caught a limit of walleyes in about an hour, released a few more and hauled in a 13" crappie too. Weather was perfect.

Is this in that old boat you rebuilt?

Yes.

My plan to rebuild, use and sell has not been completed. I'm still using the old boat with no plans to get rid of it any time soon. It's one of the few items I own that has sentimental value because it was dad's boat.

I have a 9ft aluminum boat that was my dad's, I don't think I'm going to get rid of it, I know it leaks a little but I don't care, it's great for around here, two guys can carry it I can throw it in a truck and put it in anywhere

Did fishing from July 20-22 with my brothers. Walleyes galore, some smallmouth bass, a few catfish and assorted other fish. We fished Lake Sharpe on the Missouri River. Spent quite a bit of time fishing on and around a spot we call the Big Red Penis.

My brother was the master of catching things that were not fish. One day he caught part of a tree.

Another day he caught a fishing rod and attached to it was.....a second fishing rod.

Most of the fish were fairly unremarkable.

But the weather was perfect.

And we had our limits before noon every day.

Heading down to Assitigue this weekend, against my better judgement, the National park service has been closing the drive on beach because of the fucking "piping plovers"

The stupid fucking birds like to nest in the tire tracks so they close off sections of the beach they are trying to stuff 147 cars in 2km of beach, it starts to look like a parking lot by 7am and I hate it.
I often wonder why they are endangered, could it be natures way of weeding out the stupid?

First ice fishing trip of the season today. 5" of ice. 40-50 ice shacks on the lake. Catching perch.

Ha! Looks that way, doesn't it?

That lake has always had stained water. Visibility tops out at about a foot and it's only about 6-7 feet deep.

8 below zero now. Getting a bit colder before sunrise. Then back up to 8 below for the day's high temp.

Doing ice fishing today.

Got down to 18 below then back up to 8 below today. From 8am to 3pm we had zero. No fish, no bites, no action of any note. Moved a dozen times.

From 3pm to dark we caught 2 pike, 1 perch, and 2 walleye that were this size.

On the bright side - the heater kept the inside of the shack warm and new pac boots kept my toes cozy.

Did fishing.

Light breeze. 70-something degrees.

Fish played fair.

My brother caught more walleyes than I did.

I caught more smallmouth than he did.

Back to work tomorrow.

Heading down to Assitigue tomorrow, first trip of the season, I’m about 5 trips short I’m usually getting lines wet by may but for some reason this year just didn’t pan out. The bummer is I opened the Pandora’s box of taking my mother with me, quite frankly it’s fucking brutal, I wish she would drive her self down.

Lower unit removed. Taking it to the boat doctor tomorrow. A seal failed, water got inside, turned to ice, and broke some pieces and parts.

Hoping it's fixable. If not, I'll be shopping for a different outboard.

Ewwwwwww.

Oh and we got skunked out, not even a hit, and one line was baited the entire day without so much as a crab bite out of it

I know nothing of surf fishing. Do you cast and cast and cast and hope your lure and a fish converge or is there some magic to choosing a spot that escaped you on this trip?

I sat in my boat today and fiddled with the GPS background maps. Found a few new spots to check out the next time I'm on the water.
