Not one. I have not seen a single one of those movies. The only one that even looks interesting is, of course, Django.

EDIT: No Avengers in any of those lists is a fucking disgrace and shows why I can't take this shit seriously.

Django is a must-see in my opinion. I really enjoyed Argo too. Lincoln, Flight, and The Master were all fine movies but didn't blow me away. I'm looking forward to Zero Dark Thirty. I keep hearing people say Silver Linings Playbook is good but I can't work up much interest for it.

EDIT: No Avengers in any of those lists is a fucking disgrace and shows why I can't take this shit seriously.
Well, it got a Visual Effects nomination, which puts it in the same illustrious class as Snow White and the Huntsman. So there's that.

I predicted that Lincoln would win 8 Oscars when I saw the very first trailer for it. Still haven't seen the movie but my prediction is certainly on track. Spielberg/Kaminsky/Kushner/Williams/Day Lewis - it's Oscar porn.

I haven't seen any one of the best picture nominees. However, unlike most years, I actually would like to watch a good portion of them. Only ones I have no desire to see are Life of Pi, Amour, and Beasts of the Southern Wild.

You're kidding, right?
No, it deserved at least best director and Picture nods. Argument could be made for RDJ getting a nod as well.

No there couldn't be.

And I really liked The Avengers. But there's no conceivable argument I can think of that RDJ deserved a nomination for Tony Stark. Though I would have given Avengers a nomination for one of the sound awards.

I'm beginning to think I am the only person on Earth who didn't suck his own dick over Lincoln.

I'm disappointed Holy Motors guy didn't get nominated for Best Actor. Though good, I didn't think Arkin was that notable in Argo. And I'm surprised DeNiro and Weaver got nods for Silver Linings.

I still need to see Amour and Zero Dark Thirty. But I can't say that the Oscar nominations shock me in the slightest this year.

Here's what Liddy needs to see.

The Sessions
Life of Pi
Amour
Beasts of the Southern Wild
The Impossible
Zero Dark Thirty
Frankenweenie
Paranorman
Anna Karenina
Hitchcock

I was planning to see Zero Dark Thirty and Amour anyway. Beasts of the Southern Wild I just heard great reviews but don't know much about. Depending on what's acquirable, I could probably knock these off in a week. Pretty lame Oscar list this year.

Also, how did Skyfall get best cinematography over something like The Master?

Ooh, I won a wackbet! Better luck next time, Gigli!

I don't remember what else we bet on LiddyRules I think I had a notion that TDKR would get the trilogy nomination similar to LOTR, but apparently the rest of the outside world shares my opinion of that movie.

I don't remember hearing word one about this "Amour" movie, so I think that's a bit of a shocker, no?

BIV I count Avengers as either my favorite or second favorite movie of all time, but it's simply not the type of movie that gets nominated for these awards. If you were really expecting nominations, you're as adorable as Absolutely.

Wackbet? Which Wackbet? And I think we're going to do an Oscars Wackbet this year.

I don't think we actually finalized the bets, but I remember you making Affleck your early pick for Best Director, and was just chuckling he didn't even get nominated. I don't remember which thread that was...Lone Ranger, maybe? That would certainly be an odd place to be discussing the Oscars...

Expect it? Not at all. It's still bullshit. The genre bias is enraging. Most of the shit on that list is only on there so they can stroke each other's cocks. I mean, look at that collection of drivel.

Found it. We're a couple of silly geese:

I prefer the Oscars vs the Golden Globes - The whole "Comedy/Musical" thing confuses me about the Globes. Plus, I seem to remember already having a disagreement about the Oscars. I felt like TDKR would get a nomination as a nod to the trilogy as a whole, similar to Return of the King's win. I'm pretty sure you disagreed. Now that I've seen the movie I'm not so sure, but they still allow up to 10 nominations, so I'd put a wackbet that it will get one.

I like Dark Knight Rises better than you did and I still say no best picture nomination. So Wackbet on.

We can also Wackbet on the actual ceremony, but that's a few months ahead. Then we can decide when to make final decisions. But right now I'm saying Les Miz wins best picture and Ben Affleck wins best director. This, of course, can change. But those are my early predictions.
I'm hoping to see a few of these before the ceremony, but right now it looks like they're going for a giant dick slobbering sweep for Lincoln.

Internet consensus seems to be that no Ben Affleck nod is the biggest upset out of all of this.

Not necessarily. Things got heated about The Lone Ranger between us, so it would make sense for us to start puffing our chests there.

I still think Affleck deserved a Best Director nomination. He did terrific with Argo.

I'm not saying that I agree with everything nominated, but I don't have a problem with Avengers not getting the nomination. And Robert Downey Jr? Are you kidding me?

Maybe not him specifically, but the acting in that film was so great that one of them should have got at least a supporting.

And I disagree, Avengers may be the best film of the year. It should at least be in the top five.

3The Hunger Games $408,010,692

I can't even imagine how much the next one is going to make.
I've spent (too much) time thinking about the box office trajectory for Phase II. Phase I:

Iron Man: $318
Hulk: $134
Iron Man 2: $312
Thor: $181
Cap: $176
Avengers: $623

If you look at the fact that IM2 dropped off from the first one, and that Thor and Cap were kind of borderline hits, that $623 really came out of nowhere. When Avengers came out, there was an enormous spike in DVD sales for Cap and Thor, and to a lesser degree, Hulk - so I think the expectation is that Phase II will be much stronger assuming the movies themselves deliver. From everything I've seen it looks like they're on the right track with everything, although I still question the decision to make Guardians of the Galaxy, and make Thanos the big villain in Avengers 2.

My gut feeling on Phase II:
Iron Man 3: $450
Thor 2: $250
Cap 2: $235
Guardians: $155
Avengers 2: $700

I would have preferred Ant Man to come before Guardians, with the focus of Avengers 2 being the creation of Vision with Ultron as the villain. They appear to be saving that for Avengers 3, which could make sense, as it's likely RDJ won't be around by the time they get around to making that. So it makes sense that they could have him and probably Hulk leave after Avengers 2, with Ant Man, Wasp and Vision joining for Avengers 3.
