It was always quaint when Apple was the little guy how cute those little Apple fanatics were when they talked about how good apple was, how bad Microsoft was. Apple even does commercials about it now....

Lately, since Apple has hit it big on a few things, they have become the most arrogant company. This is proof:

http://cbs13.com/topstories/local_story_104012157.html

Apple Sends 3rd Grader Cease And Desist Letter
The company replied to the young girl after she sent them some ideas to make the iPod Nano better.

(CBS 13) Like any nine-year-old, Shea O'Gorman spends a lot of time listening to her iPod Nano. So much so, that when her third grade class started learning about writing letters she thought, who better to write to than the man whose company makes her iPod.

“I decided to write to Mr. Steven Jobs,” said Shea. Jobs is the president of Apple Computers.

“She just came home and said ‘mom I have some ideas about the iPod Nano,’ and said ‘I'm going to write Steven Jobs a letter’,” said Shea’s mother. “We were just very impressed and very proud of her.”

In her letter, Shea outlined her ideas for improving iPods like adding song lyrics.

“Have the words on the screen so they could sing along and stuff,” said Shea.

So she mailed it, and waited for three months, and when a letter arrived from apple, the whole family gathered around to read it.

“She was very upset. She kind of threw the letter up in the air and ran into her room and slammed the door,” said Shea’s mom.

The letter was not from Steve Jobs, it was signed the senior counsel, Apple Law Department.

That's right, apple's legal department, telling a nine year old that apple does not accept unsolicited ideas. Apple's legal department told her not send them her suggestions, and if she wants to know why, she could read their legal policy on the Internet.

“We were stunned, we just were stunned, is the best word to say. It just wasn't the appropriate type letter to send to a third grader who had the initiative to write to them,” said Shea’s mom.

“It kind of seemed like they were saying well we don't want your idea like it's not good or anything,” said Shea.

And her mom thinks it's even worse coming from apple. “They are a company who tries to promote itself as an educator of children. That was really, it was unacceptable. They know better than that,” said Shea’s mom.

Well the legal department is 100% right.

You don't want some 10 yr old in 2 years going on the TV saying that they came up with the idea and that Apple is ripping them off. The lawyer didn't want to be mean but was treating her honestly and didn't mean for it to come off as insulting.

They should have sent her a new iPod and thanked her for her advice. And in the letter they can say that if they ever can work that into the device that the iPod would serve as a token of appreciation for her feedback.

Apple sucks dick. I've never been a fan. I will stick with Windows. I haven't had a Windows computer freeze up on me while working in programs that were my own personal computers. It's happened while I was working on networked computers but that probably because they were fucked up from the networking.

Apple sucks because they put out inferior, overpriced garbage and act like they're doing people a favor, not because some kid got her widdle feewings hurt. Any company would have sent that same email because they don't want to get sued.

How is this wrong exactly? Who's to say that the parents wouldn't come back and sue Apple for stealing her ideas? Seams very likely to me. Did she tell them she was 9 years old in her letter? This is a non-story.

Apple is fucking garbage. It always was. They always represented that one box computer sitting in the class room never turned on. They make the ipod, and now all of the sudden they are on top. Its a shame thought that those things are POS, just pure junk. I fucking hate apple and I fucking hate their products. There new style with the "hip" ways - yea, your cool. we get it.

fuck apple. Yea, I agree that the lawyers had to do what they had to do, but on the same token fuck apple. Them and their insecure products (see other thread) where they did not care about security for their consumers. Fuck man, and they say they are better then micro. Atleast microsoft tries to make an effort is security - you assholes put shit out there, personal devices that hold important information to people, and leave the most stupidest mistake in the book.

Its such a fucking n00b thing to do. What does a n00b linux person do when the first install, lets say fedora. boot loader password, huh? root password, huh? i'll run everything as root.

Then that person learns, and corrects. Apple knew what they were doing, and did it anyway.

Fuck you mac.

Absolutely. It is completely a non-story. What the fuck do these naive douchey parents expect a corporation to do, put aside all their legal protocols to make their spawn feel good about herself? Corporations are cutthroat entities, especially at the intellectual property level. They don't know what is behind the letter they got from the dumb kid, and they responded exactly as I would have expected them to.

Actually, it's a decent piece of education for the kid, if explained properly by the parents.
Good fucking luck with that.

And I'm not even an apple product fan, and I missed making a fortune on their stock this past year.
So, fuck them.

I agree. I've never owned Apple products and I probably never will. Everyone I work with loves their iPods, but I do just fine with my XM Nexus.

To me apple was always the crappy computers you used at school. I know they're better than that now, but I won't buy one. I thought about buying a macbook, but I'll just stick with my PCs.

This doesn't necessarily have to do with Apple. It has to do with a flawed culture.
Instead of doing the proper thing of a) not responding or b) writing a nice semi-patronizing thank you letter for the suggestions you get the lawyers involved because they're terrified of people being sue-happy.

We're doomed as a culture.

That said. Fuck Apple.

I just read that Dre is going to use the $3.2 Billion to start a family first foundation dedicated to promoting stable family environments. It will work towards promoting fathers and family first, an initiative to get the community to realized the detrimental effects the lack of a strong paternal role model plays in the development of children. It will educated men and women on the importance of a stable home before deciding to have children and start a family. It will work to enlighten men and women to the fact that lack of stable 2 parent households might lead to increased crime, gang activity and a repetitive cycle of absentee parenting...
