The mere existence of ALPR is already going too far. The rationale for the existence of mandatory license plates on cars was to help identify people who were observed breaking a law or rule of the road. If used for any other purpose, the act of mandating license plates becomes just as abusive as mandating a straight up tracking device in your car.
Anything to keep the money flowing in.
If the ACLU focused on stuff like this, people wouldn't hate them so much.
