Don't Know if this has been talked about, but this makes me nervous... But, if this does happen, I hope if a merger happens, Mel keeps them on..

I don't think there's much to talk about here (before this thread gets all filled up with the same comments we had a few threads down).

I doubt that CBS-Radio is going to renew O&A in March (when their deal is up (from what I've heard)). It's clear the company is moving in a different direction with its young male stations and I don't see them paying a premium for any one show. If it's true that Mel Karmazin wants unique content for satellite, he'll have it for that reason if no other. This looks like one of those situations that is going to work out for both sides (XM and CBS-Radio) due to circumstances.

XM only , works for me

Exactly. It's not really a bad thing for some of us fans. The only really bad thing about it is that some fans will have to decide whether or not to get XM or not. That and the fact that we'll be flooded by zombies saying O&A suck and are not even good enough for terrestrial radio. But, a 4+ hour XM-only show sounds damn good to me.

It works for me too. There are obvious negatives thou, as well. I think the bbboys liked the wide audience, the exposure, the guests, and so on. And also, you are going to have a lot of asses, who say they failed. You have to take into account the Xm numbers, as well. Which they do not see. Restrictions killed the O&A show, especially POST IMUS. One thing is for sure. You can call CBS radio dead. They are gonna be in awful shape.

You're assuming O&A have a job in a post-merger world.

Right now, the only sure thing is Citadel. We ALL know O&A, AND Ron And Fez bring in a shitload of cash for XM. But, will KARMAZIN
really step up for O&A. That's what we have to be worried about.

Terrestrial radio as a whole, is dead. There are so many more options for listeners. More people clearly choose to listen to satrad or to their iPod, than tune into shitty local radio. O&A clearly weren't going to be able to save it alone...and at this point, unless terrestrial starts offering commercial free, uncensored content...they'll continue to lose listeners.

I can't even remember the last time I listened to an FM or AM band radio station.

Good Point. If I end up loosing more money off this deal, then I'm done.
I am not supporting howie's paycheck. At the same time, I am going to want to hear O&A. I know there will be a way to listen for free, but at the same time, I would want to support O&A, because they deserve as many listeners as possible. But, if it starts hurting the pockets, billing becomes confusing, and so on. Then i'm out.. I mean, I already hate XM customer service. I had a billing issue, hungup twice, and then connected me with some guy in the shipping warehouse.. Just nervous, about the whole thing all together. I am going to enjoy every single show like it were the last.

I absolutely am assuming O&A have a job post-merger. I'm not worrying about it until the merger gets approved, but it is in the back of my mind.

If this thing is approved, there's a chance Mel will decide not to keep O&A on satrad...but there's also a chance he'll keep them on and let them grow on the new XMSirius. There's also a chance the merger may not even pass. Anything can happen, I'm just trying to be positive about it.

what station does citadel own in NYC.... the walkover from buffalo might be kind of long.

That's what I'm saying, it does not look good. But, that would be the only option for regular radio. Like i said, I am just going to sit back, and enjoy the show.
Just wanted to share what i read over there, in the off chance no one read about it.

And remember, Mel keeping the boys on but telling them to lay off of Howard is almost as bad. They need to have no restrictions on who they can talk about and what they can say. If they can make fun of Ellen Degeneres on the same service, they should be able to say what they want about who they want.

But Hoo Hoo's ego might not Ah-low it.
