Ant raved again today about lawyers. While the big corporate lawyers can be less than fair, does he not understand that lawyers protect the rule of law and keep big brother at bay?

If the rule of law meant anything we wouldn't have so many stoopid laws and too many assfucks looking to make more laws.

The Ten Commandments are a pretty good base for all the law needed, IMO.

We don't need special "hate" laws and all that useless SHIT that FUCKS up everything because some whiny CUNT wants a new LAW.

Psst... those are written by politicians, who are just pandering to idiot voters, and there are just as many lawyers working AGAINST those laws as there are working in favor of them.

lawyers just try and make money for themselves, no matter who they fuck over in the process.
I see. So in your profession and every other one except lawyers, everyone is in it to help other people and they all work for free?

I see it as an 80/20 or more like a 90/10 split...

Of everything done collectively by all the lawyers in the world, 10% of the sum is worthwhile...

Lawyers are scum. They are not in their profession to uphold our values and constitution, they are merely people that found a way to get paid for debate club. They will take whatever side of an issue that has a payday.

Bullshit. Who gets themselves "elected" to government? Lawyers, that's who.

It's a viscous circle.
There are a lot of people in elected to government who are not lawyers - George W. Bush for one

other than that I have nothing ..... I know some shitty lawyers and some who are really good at what they do, regardless of what side they happen to be representing.

Everyone hates lawyers until they need one.
Very true. As an FYI, I'm a self-hating lawyer. I hate how the practice of law has made me a paranoid, overly-analytical, non-spontaneous person. We get paid to fix other people's problems, and as such, are never allowed to make mistakes ourselves and are always acutely aware of even the most minor problem. It is a thankless profession that, while pays well, takes far more from your soul, body (long hours/bad food/substance abuse) and family than it gives back. I loved law school, hate the practice of law. Fortunately I haven't lost my soul yet, and am desperately trying to get out and do something else that would fit for me.

That all said, there are some awful bottom feeder lawyers out there, as well as some truly admirable public interest lawyers who toil for virtually nothing to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. I think it is like most other professions in that you have the best, the worst, and everything in between. I'm not defending lawyers per se (I never could), but would say that there are some truly great, admirable attorneys who, unfortunately, are probably outweighed (numerically) by the rest of the profession.

Believe me, even as a lawyer, I emphathize with Ant when he rants about lawyers ruining radio; the CBS lawyers are trying to protect the company from liability, not from creating a good product. Often the two are in direct conflict, which really sucks. Often lawyers are not good at balance, but rather strive for a single, unmitigated result.

Actually, that's the job of judges (who are usually former lawyers), with the ultimate authority being the Supreme Court. Still didn't work against the Patriot Act.

lawyers just try and make money for themselves, no matter who they fuck over in the process.
Sure most do, but what profession doesn't? They're like car salesman and loan officers and MANY other commission-based jobs. But let's not forget the "noble" professions like teaching, social workers, researchers, addiction specialists, firemen and other public safety workers.

My mom was a nurse in a state hospital (Fairview) in California for 26 years taking care of the mentally disabled and criminally insane and didn't hit $50,000+ a year until the last 10.

Like what was said before, it's the old 80/20 rule, just like any other job.

Way to make a case FOR lawyers. :icon_mrgr

Everyone hates lawyers until they need one.
True that...

One more thing, sort of a Fun Fact:
Approximately 50% of all cases in civil court involve automobile accidents...
