Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan won't pay back taxes

(CNN) -- Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, who is being sued in California by the federal government, said she has a duty to not pay taxes because her son died in what she called an "immoral" war.

An Internal Revenue Service officer, in a federal filing Tuesday in Sacramento, said Sheehan has refused to provide financial information for the 2005 and 2006 tax years. The filing asks the court order Sheehan to comply.

Sheehan, of Vacaville, told CNN affiliate KXTV she has not paid federal incomes taxes since 2004 -- and has not disguised the fact.

"I feel like I gave my son to this country in an illegal and immoral war. I'll never get him back," Sheehan said. "And, so, if they can give me my son back, then I'll pay my taxes. And that's not going to happen."

Sheehan achieved national attention when she camped outside then-President George W. Bush's home in Crawford, Texas, throughout August 2005 to demand a meeting with the president over her son's death.

Casey Sheehan, a 24-year-old Army specialist, was killed in an April 2004 battle in Baghdad. His death prompted his mother to found Gold Star Families for Peace.

In 2011, Sheehan raised questions about whether U.S. special forces had indeed killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

"It's not that I don't believe (President Barack) Obama about Osama because he's Obama, I don't believe him because he is just one in along (sic) line of butt-naked emperors," Sheehan wrote on a blog.

Her anti-war protests included a 2010 stint on the grounds of the Washington Monument.

She has declared a 'tax strike' because she doesn't agree with what our government is doing. She is not only going to go to jail, she will be destroyed publicly. Nothing frightens politicians more then people grumbling about the government and mentioning not paying their taxes in protest.

The fear of prison and then living under a bridge generally keeps tax strike talk to a minimum. A farmer in Western Nebraska disagreed with what Clinton was doing when it came to NAFTA. He refused to pay his taxes and they took everything he owned and slung his ass into a federal prison.

I feel bad for her. I'd be upset too if my son died for nothing.

Hopefully she'll enjoy the federally funded housing she's going to receive.

He died trying to save American soldier's lives on a mission he volunteered for.

In May 2000, Sheehan enlisted in the United States Army as a light-wheeled vehicle mechanic, MOS 63B.

Near the end of his active service, the U.S. invasion of Iraq began. Sheehan re-enlisted, knowing that his unit would be sent there. Sheehan's division, the First Cavalry Division, was sent to Iraq. On March 19, 2004, Sheehan's Battery C, 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, arrived at FOB Camp War Eagle in Sadr City. On April 4, 2004, Sheehan was killed in action after volunteering to be part of a Quick Reaction Force to rescue American troops.
But you go ahead and join his shitbag mother in squatting and shitting on his memory with your "he died a useless death" assholery.

Truer words have never been said. Anyone who sides with this cunt should be buried alive in a mass grave.

I'm just saying we shouldn't have been there in the first place and he should still be alive.

I don't feel a bit bad for her. She has done nothing but capitalize on her son's death. If anything, I feel bad for him and his surviving platoon-mates. Being dishonored by this cunt is the worst thing someone could do for them.

You're not helping your cause.

Go say it in front of a speeding train, Mister 8-Years-Later 20/20 Vision.

Piss and moan about wars all you want... just leave the names of the actual warriors out of your blitherings. They're not your anti-war/anti-government poster boys. Stopping pissing on their graves.

funny how the press dropped her like a hot potato when she stopped being useful to the then "Bush Cheney Illegal War!" angle and they moved on to other things

I sympathize too, but this is a really, really bad idea. Unfortunately people who try to pull this gag get massive sentences. You're probably better off just paying your taxes and then robbing the guy carrying the money out of the bank at gunpoint.

Arron Russo said it best, income taxes are unconstitutional but you still have to pay them. Its the same way its illegal for the mob to make you pay for "protection", you can refuse but your store will be burned down and your legs will be broken.

I hope she ends up in the same federal prison my black sheep uncle did (Marion, IL) in the early 80's. He did the old "I'm declaring myself a church" thing. The IRS didn't buy it and sent him away for a couple years. Dumbass.
