I got this goddamn thing for Christmas, and it's supposed to be "portable", I.E. like a walkman.

It doesnt work ANYWHERE. It barely keeps the signal in my house, where the antenna is right in the goddamn window. If I take it outdoors or anywhere where there's those pesky "walls" involved, it gets no reception or signal whatsoever.

Anyone else have this problem? Am I doing something wrong, or is this just another shit fucking overpriced item relying on awful satellite technology which is anything but reliable anywhere?

I tried using the "antenna aiming" thingie in the preferences menu, and I called XM service for help and they refreshed my antenna or something, but it still doesnt work worth a shit.

Help.

You have got to be in an area with a lot of repeaters to make the XM2Go's worth a shit.

I am a lucky one. The only time I am out of range of a repeater, I have unobstructed sky.

well if you live in los angeles you should have repeaters around you. It sounds like you may have a bad unit. If you're standing outside or near a window with a clear line of sight to the southern sky you should get a clear signal.

Two questions.

1. How is your signal when it is docked with the external antenna hooked up?

2. When you go to antenna aiming is it showing any sort of signal coming in from either the repeater or satellite?

ive had my inno for over a year and I live in the middle of nowhere in the center of the country. It works great here and absolutely no repeaters ANYWHERE around here.

I'd send the thing back.

I in the Shenandoah Valley of VA and use the headphone antenna after-market add-on, and only lose signal when there are trees and such obscuring the southern sky.

Send it back, or move out of those concrete canyons.

All depends on what type of house you live in whether you can get a signal. I live in a concrete apartment, so i cannot get a signal indoors. Also, try buying antenna headphones for your Inno. I have a Samsung Helix, an older version of the Inno, and I get much better reception walking around with the antenna headphones than walking with just the Helix in my hand. They are a little bulky and ugly, but they do work well outdoors.

And also dont forget: if you have an XM account for your radio you can also listen to Xm Online, which plays O&A.

1. It's still touchy, but works for the most part with the external antenna hooked up.

2. No, it's "zero" on both screens. Like last night I took it to the gym, but it has tons of windows and shit around it and I couldnt get any signal whatsoever. What the fuck did I buy it for. I'm trying to lose some goddamn holidy weight and it's nice to listen to the b-b-b-boys whilst running on the treadmill and shit like that. Fuck.

*I forgot to change my profile, Im actually living in Buffalo right now so it should have even LESS problem getting reception.

I'm in Raleigh, NC and get great reception from the thing. It'll actually work in the middle of my house. It sounds like you got a bad antenna. I'd return it.

And just be thankful you didn't get a Stiletto...although those have a "portable heater" feature which is pretty cool, I guess.

the only problem I have with mine is that it randomly decides it wants to change the channel to either the 60s or 70s, or it will just start recording on its own (no there is no recording schedule set). I don't have any reception problems at all when docked, and when I use it as a walkman I use the Belkin Antenna headphones which REALLY help with reception.

it shouldn't be touchy when the unit is docked. you have the antenna pointing out a southern facing window, right?

2. No, it's "zero" on both screens. Like last night I took it to the gym, but it has tons of windows and shit around it and I couldnt get any signal whatsoever. What the fuck did I buy it for. sorry but you're not going to get live reception at your gym even with those windows without any sort of strong repeater signal. The antenna needs a direct line of sight to the satellite.

you either have a bad unit or just an unrealistic expectation of how satellite radio technology should work.

Everyone here has it right.

If there's no terrestrial signal in your area, it's not really going to work indoors or anything like that without the external antenna pointing towards the satellites.. You might want to consider recording some of the O&A show to listen to while you're at the gym if you can't get reception.

That's just the way it works. It's impossible for the thing to work anywhere indoors, it just won't happen. You need a strong repeater signal or line of sight with the satellite.

I live in Greensboro, NC. I am in Raleigh several days a week. My Inno works when I am still, but it does not work when I am traveling through Raleigh or Greensboro either.

Tall buildings blocking your southern sky occasionally and no/not enough/underpowered repeaters...

My wifes inno and my inno work somewhat. With a outside antenna, it works great. As for the window, I noticed that my vinyl windows kill the signal. On the inside of the window = no signal.. outside the window but inside the screen = great signal.

What I do, is take my home dock kit, take off the bottom, and use a small mobile antenna and place it under my hat and run the cord inside my jacket to the dock unit. It then recieves 1000% better.

I know, it is a redneck setup, but it works.

Must be Mary Carey's giant tits blocking the signal. Or the flash of the camera interfered with your signal. Who knows??

It doesn't work portably in my house but I use it at work and on the way to and from and it works pretty good. I have the Belkin antenna headphones which are so uncomfortable but do make a difference.

My problem is with the damn batteries lately. I charge mine overnight when I get home from work and today a quarter of it is used up. And sometimes it has the green + battery indicator while it's in the home dock AFTER it's been charging all night.

I love it more than the Airware I have which I had complete nightmares with and went through two of them, but they still have work to do on these portable models

Yet go figure, I get a full signal in my house while it's in the home dock with the antenna INSIDE facing my closet!

Funny that this is the first thread I read this morning. My Inno has never had any real reception problems, except in my office, but that's because I sit in the middle and am not near ANY windows.

This morning though, while I was listening on my way to work, the Inno would just automatically shut itself off -- and not because I had a red battery meter. Granted it was yellow, but it shouldn't have just quit like that. I tried to turn it back on a few times but it kept quitting out. It shouldn't do this on a yellow battery meter (and it's never done it before).

Being on the road a lot I've learned some things about the Inno and it's functionality. High traffic areas of radio waves will change the channel and mode. I've also had it turn off a lot on me. If you're near a semi and he's broadcasting on his CB...your Inno might do some crazy shit.
